If it's still the same, Tatkov a year or so ago, single player had no progression, couldn't keep ANYTHING you found during a session. So it was boring as shizz and pointless. Maybe it's changed by now. I have up on it
For a tech demo, this is looking pretty dang solid, to me. I've definitely seen jankier. I'm especially impressed that he got all this done after redoing the whole thing to migrate out of Unity. This dev has put in some serious work so far. Very promising!

@@JamesJohnson-kl1eu If this game takes off they'll have made several thousand dollars per hour for each of those 600 hours spent. Good luck finding a job which pays more than that! Unity no longer makes much sense unless you're a bigger company with a need for its more comprehensive range of marketing tools and plugins, and even then, many of the bigger companies who can't switch so easily are on the lookout to find a viable alternative now.
Single Player Tarkov is basically all I could want, in lieu of playing Escape from Pripyat or Stalker Gamma. Not that those options are bad, they're among my favourite games... but I know the maps inside and out and the graphics just kind of are showing their decade of aging.
I might be misreading your comment, but SIngle Player Tarkov literally exists as a mod. It' well developed and fully functional (althogh the latest update is taking a bit to come out (soon)).

@@igorthelighteven godot 3 had all the capabilities of making a game like this. Performance might not have been the same. But any 3dengine from the past 15 years can create this. People really overestimate how important the engine is. Unless you are making a game for the cutting edge hardware, it doesnt matter a lot.
@@askeladden450 Well mostly. Godot 3 used GLES 3.0 (OpenGL 3.0 for mobiles) and was pretty limited to what it could do at that time. There are a lot of things that GLES 3.0 just couldn't do. Now he supports Vulkan and DirectX 12 and technically nothing is stopping you from making a modern looking game. Most indies still wouldn't do that tho because it's too time consuming. But I think I get your point - it's not the engine who make games - people do ;-)
For anyone wondering, AK-platform guns (usually, a few exceptions exist) need to attach optics via a side-mounted rail because the dust cover is too loose for anything hooked onto it to hold its zero
1:17 I remember playing PlanetSide 2 loooong time ago and most of the fights in the open were like this, with 90% of the time spent trying to see what's shooting at you, and 10% of the time spent shooting back lol. So much more satisfying to land a hit compared to CoD 5 meter range shootouts. Anyway, is there a goal in this game? Or is it like a hiking simulator with guns?
I was in the Army for just shy of 11 years with 2 combat deployments. Fire fights are funny things: sometimes they are simple where you see the enemy with the naked eye, and they see you, smoke and noise ensues, then it's over. Sometimes you have call in my first unit, a field artillery unit, to level the area because you have no idea where they actually are, just where the rounds are coming from. It's pure chaos.

Very few will take place at longer ranges because both the wind and curve of the bullet's trajectory can alter how it hits a target. The maximum effective range is usually around 300 meters. You will often need a spotter for longer range, as well as a much more powerful bullet, for longer ranges. If you want to hit extreme ranges, use artillery as small arms just cannot do it. You need a spotter to even think about being effective at those ranges.
This is going to be a good one Splat. I think he is on track to make a banger that we will enjoy. Been having fun with Demo 2, and highly recommend people go check it out. I mean its free to see what this fella has put together so far. I dont know shit really tho so I digress. lol ...Sorry one more thing, the shotgun situation is hit L-control to ready for loading shells, then press fire(L-mobut) to load a shell. Repeat left click until all shells loaded. After firing a round, "R" racks the pump to load a new shell. Trader in AREA5 is in the same red building ur base is in.
RoV has been one of those games I've been looking forward to for a while. It's also in that genre where I've been scared that it's just never going to be or won't be what it looks like, but this has really alleviated a lot of my concerns. It looks great so far, especially since it's the work of just one guy!

Props to this dev - it felt a little weird hearing how many things weren't in yet, but this definitely seems like a case of "just needs more Stuff, and from the quality of the Stuff he already has, this is gonna be a banger".
Well, it's just one guy. So it takes a lot of time to add stuff, so it's a good idea to leave stuff out of the tech demo and get some feedback on the core systems and other bugs that come out to play.

More importantly Tarkov is absolutely brutal in terms of losing stuff when you die. If you just keep dying... you're screwed. And I'm so bad at it that I get killed by scav AI let along players.
this sounds cool the complexity and fun of tarkov the atmosphere of stalker and single player so you dont have to worry about grinding or getting owned by skilled or cheating players.

In the off chance Splat actually reads the comments.. There was a sort of "running joke" in one of my old MILSIM communities that went "Black is not camouflage" because of all the kids/inexperienced types who would rock black for urban, night, or otherwise low-light situations. Problem is, in reality all you do is turn into a big, black, human-shaped blob. The human eye is a lot more complex than people realize, and if you ever see someone running through a forest at night or inside a poorly-lit building dressed in a solid black uniform, you'll know what I'm talking about. The reason why any good modern camouflage uses a complex pattern made up of multiple different shapes and colors is because it confuses the eye by breaking up the familiar silhouette of "human bean." Solid colors, especially ones that don't occur frequently in nature, are terrible at breaking up the shape of the human body.
You cover “Single player Tarkov experience” games a lot. I’m surprised to see so many in development. I had no Idea that people even wanted that experience in single player.

Next time at the gun range, try leaning the gun like you do in this game. Looks great though, with an engine change after startup, sounds like 24 hour work.
I hope that this comes to console in the future, as I here that GODOT has a really simple export path to run on consoles. Plus with the original STALKER trilogy being stealth dropped to console has really brought this genre of FPS back to popularity.
Demo is running on the deck, just had to set up the controls a little bit but was getting 60fps. UI is just too small, same issue with prior demo as this is the V2 of the demo
I'm skeptical about the VSS's AP ability. Velocity is what penetrates, and sub-sonic caps your velocity at around 1100 fps. You can use extra mass and penetrators to help it a little, but you'll never fully overcome that limitation. I suspect it's only effective on weaker armor.
My experience is black is bad for camouflage. During the day it's bad at camouflage. At night it's not better than woodland or even the (rightfully) much-hated NWU. It looks cool though, there's that.
Whenever I think of the VSS I think back to the earlier days of PUBG. Back when it was poorly optimized and ran like crap, but, back when it also didn't have a bunch of Asian hackers on it too.

True! Not sure is he using C# as in Unity or Godot's GDScript. Still - a lot of porting was needed even if he used the same language as in Unity. That's a lot of work!
I tried it, it looks nice, but it's annoying how fast corpses despawn. I managed to kill two bandits but had to hide behind a house because I was shot at by a third I did not know where he was shooting from. After sneaking around and getting rid of him, the two I initially killed, were gone. No loot. Also, enemies can shoot at me all day long, or I can kill them before they notice me, and in both cases they carry no or very little ammo. And when I die I should get at least the starter pistol, otherwise the early game is very annoying, and there is no point in "saving" the game at the base, if on dying I don't get to load, but just respawn with nothing.. then might as well wipe the save and start again. And the hunger and especially thirst are dropping waaaay too fast. It's like I have to drink an entire can of soda every couple of minutes.

In the game NPCs can hit you accurately easily and from a zillion miles away. How accurate is that?

There is literally an offline Tarkov mod if you want to try that out. But you do need to buy actual Tarkov to use it.

Many want the Tarkov mechanics in single player. The gun modding, medical system, and scav AI. It's essentially creating an ultimate Ghost Recon imo.

Not sure is he using C# as in Unity or Godot's GDScript.
Still - a lot of porting was needed even if he used the same language as in Unity. That's a lot of work!

Still rough around the edges, but definitively interesting game.
I tried it, it looks nice, but it's annoying how fast corpses despawn. I managed to kill two bandits but had to hide behind a house because I was shot at by a third I did not know where he was shooting from. After sneaking around and getting rid of him, the two I initially killed, were gone. No loot.
Also, enemies can shoot at me all day long, or I can kill them before they notice me, and in both cases they carry no or very little ammo.
And when I die I should get at least the starter pistol, otherwise the early game is very annoying, and there is no point in "saving" the game at the base, if on dying I don't get to load, but just respawn with nothing.. then might as well wipe the save and start again.
And the hunger and especially thirst are dropping waaaay too fast. It's like I have to drink an entire can of soda every couple of minutes.
