Woody, the cartel is highly invested in keeping crime levels low in tourism areas because of how much money it brings in. They're very active in the areas you think they aren't, just not in the crime focused ways your mind associates with cartels.
They pretty much have a monopoly on avocado farms in Mexico too, they're everywhere.
To be fair this is central Mexico the outskirts of Mexico city is where shit goes down.

Yeah man. 500 pesos is like a couple luxury diners in Mexico. Mexico is one of the best countries to visit on a budget, can’t wait to go back.

My papa told me a story about his trip to Mexico years ago where he gave a waiter at a hotel restaurant a really generous tip that wasn't much here, but he woke up the day and the guy washed his car. Wild stuff.

When I used to work in Mexico, I would go into towns and stay in a house for a week, eat 2 times a day, and go drinking on Friday on only spent about 70-90$ US. Woody didn’t rob these kids, he was pretty nice with them

Altitude sickness sucks bad but after years of living at above 7500 ft I now could go jogging the day after arriving in town with no issue. Before I got acclimated walking up the driveway would make me be sick and s*** myself for 3 days. It seems to be a permanent effect because I travel to the mountains every year and I have no problem hiking or running.
