The Efteling has dark rides where you can make up your own story...so they don't push it in your face but rather stimulate your own imagination...

Great podcast, thanks . There are 18 million Dutch people. 17,999,999 million Dutch people know the Python. This is the only rollercoaster that every dutch person knows. Breaking down the Python means civil war.

This was lovely, first time listening to your podcast and Efteling is my home park. Not everyone "gets" the Efteling after their first visit (though these are often thrill seekers, American generally, that are used to extreme rides and/or simply never experienced a leisure park where you shouldn't rush your day). So it's always nice to hear people express their feelings that do understand and/or appreciate it like it was intended.
I get your view on Python, and I agree that it's standing out and not pretty compared to the rest of the park. But, like you probably know, when it first opened, it was the largest steel coaster in mainland Europe. Efteling is a park ingrained in a Dutch upbringing, at least once a year we'd go visit since I was 2 years old. You grow up with the park and it's quirks, you remember having a picknick on the grass lawns (you are still allowed to bring your own food and drink and have picknicks) and riding your first rollercoaster like Python. That coaster stands for the turning point, a new era, for the park and it's visitors and their kids too. It's like the weird uncle in the corner, but the good kinda weird uncle. The new track looks like the bones of a snake (not sure if that was intentional) and it at least rides nice (they altered the layout a bit to make it more modern). It's a tradition that is more comfortable now haha! Not sure what they can do to preserve all the memories and theme it. They could redo the queue and make that more exciting, make the lifthill faster, the rest is fine in an ugly way. I'm kinda happy Efteling has the balls to spend money on things like this, it feels honest and reaffirms some kind of weird trust. I hate Disney nowadays, and Efteling is quite the opposite.
Thanks for the comment. It's a shame that not everyone gets it really. I appreciate your viewpoint on Python but I still feel it's a waste of potential.
@@coasterbot Yea, but it's understandable too. It is a weird outlandish park, I guess, which is it's strength. And sometimes people do get it if they make another visit. And yea, if they would replace Python with a new exciting modern coaster, I wouldn't cry about it. But I do appreciate that the Efteling invests in it's history. Anyway, I'm looking forward to the time you'll return and vlog or talk about it. :)
Python is not objectively bad though. It’s got two extremely forceful loops, a very intense helix, and it’s smooth like a B&M. Trust me we’ve got enough rides covered in unicorn puke theming at Efteling. Let’s keep one ride marathon-able without driving people insane with pre-shows.
But Efteling isn't about pure roller coasters, nor is Python really good enough to marathon. The loops are great, but the ride is short, the lift hill takes ages, and there's not that much to it. I'd rather see something else
@@coasterbot It’s probably a hot take, but I think the double loop double corkscrew layout actually is that good without the Vekoma jank ruining the experience. Discounting the admittedly terrible chain lift, it’s a pretty intense little ride without any filler or dead spots. It’s actually a relatively new strategy by Efteling to excessively theme their roller coasters. Pegasus and Bob had absolutely no theming either. They built Python when the park had been little more than a playground for almost 30 years. That thing single-handedly transformed them into a full-fledged theme park in a matter of years. They’d be crazy to neglect the large roller coaster side of things, considering building the largest roller coaster in mainland Europe allowed them to expand so rapidly. Now if they were to replace it with a full-sized B&M or Intamin, they’d have my full blessing, but I really think 2020s Efteling lacks the boldness to buy an unapologetically large coaster without caking on tons and tons of make-up.

It's so nice to have the podcast back, and listen to the chatter between you two! Great to hear that you're rediscovering your love for coasters and parks. Interesting to hear about your experiences at Efterling too. Generally it hasn't been high on my list of parks to visit, as it doesn't look like my sort of thing. But I certainly can't knock it until I've actually visited.
For future episodes, perhaps you can talk about some of the exciting theme park projects coming up in both the UK and the wider world (a longer-form 'Dispatch', if you will).
I'd also like to see more guests episodes if possible. Perhaps it's finally time for 'Andrew Rambles'? Or looking further afield, you could ask if Tom Scott wants to come on? :D

Thanks! We're making a lot less content than we used to. It makes sense for everything to be in one place. Before each 'thing' had it's own place to stop the main channel from feeling 'spammy'.
Not that it changes your point but I really feel the need to point out that if a pre-show was on a ride, it wouldn't be a pre-show. It would be a show.
You're right, it's a show scene. But, it's pre the main section of the ride. I think both work?

Nice podcast! Things to do in the future in the efteling. Pagode a flying island where you can see all over the efteling. Sirocco a flatride with very good theming. Its on the other side of vogel rock. And villa volta. Its the first mad house in the world as a prototype. The story is told in dutch so you would not understand it sadly enough. But you will like it.
And i do understand that fata forgana is not really understanding as in story. Its the same as dreamflight. You need to see it as a look into the world of the story of 1001 nights. The story what you see you can make yourself. Symbolica is kind of the same. But they added a small story to it. You are being shown the different places in the castle of symbolica.
And yes in 2024 The efteling grand hotel will be open as Dance Macabre that will be the new spookslot. It will be an attraction for kids that are 8 and above. They wont back down as it goes about scares. Knowing the efteling its going to be about atmosphere scare not jump scare.
And if the rumours are true efteling will finally be starting at the back of vogel rock to start building on a new Area with a circus theme with a triple Launch coaster. Witch will be done in 2026.
We'll definitely be back in the future to check out the new hotel and Danse Macabre!
Missed this podcast listened to it constantly throughout the lockdowns and it helped to get me through them.

Quick question, what happened with theme park news?
It died. We found it very time consuming to do, often with little payoff. I appreciate lots of people enjoyed it, but by the end we didn't enjoy making it. Now we spend more time concentrating on the 'main' videos, and the podcast again!
