ARGUABLY ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO LISTEN TOO. It was one of me and my late wife’s songs we would listen to all the time. Love this !!!!!
I have many Phish songs that I love, but this one is special. It was my husband and my song that we danced to at our wedding. He is a true phan though and though. He is the one that intoduced me to Phish and Dead. I knew of them, but now I am a loyal phan.
Nicole Kellner this was also my wedding dance song. I sung the song to my wife the whole song into her ear. It was unimaginably the most unforgettable moment of the night for us. like it was just me and her. I'll never forget it.
I never post a comment. , but I caught waiting in the Velvet sea when the band broke up. I've been to several fish shows and I remember the first time my friend and you pray told me about this band back in the nineties they were blowing up and out of this world. It was fish and I went from there. Not a lot of ants since Pink Floyd have actually touched me in the way they have and I will truly cherish every single freaking moment they have touched by life!
This is a good example of why i go to Phish shows. So much heart and love and talent. In this song I love Page on piano and Trey on guitar; the whole thing is wonderful. Super beautiful. TY for posting depaltj
Wow! I Looooooove this song ... this song reminds me of u my beloved husband, 2u CEF!! Wherever u r wherever u r = ( mi amor, one day I'll c u again one day! and I can not wait! Missu =) meanwhile this is how I feel wading in the velvet sea the sea of LIFE.... And I am wading in the velvet sea...
My favorite Phish song to jam to -- in part because it's so damn easy. I know that sounds lame, and yes there are plenty of songs with more difficult leads, scales and combinations that I love to tackle. But with this four-chord beauty I can close my eyes and let my fingers go up and down the fret board effortlessly -- like so many G D Em C songs, it's really hard to hit a bad note with this song, even with the Bm C break thrown in (chords that are nearly as easy to jam to.) And with the tempo they play it in, not to mention the serene feel of the song itself, any lead you put on it just soars. Yummy.
+LeSloth eased in with a tasty piano intro. Many versions of this song. Paige vocals. Goliath band at its best. I'll be on youtube tonite listening to this song in its many incarnations. 6:23
At 5:55, something haunting happens that is unparalled. No post-hiatus version comes close, besides the extended note Trey just lets slide in the encore on 2-21. But that one has some off notes.
I'm glad that someone else appreciates this moment as much as I do. This is one of my favorite songs, and I listen to every version of it that they play. But THIS one, I've listened to this performance many hundreds of times, and there is something exquisite and exceptional about what happens here. Trey is tapped into something deep and pure.
I have a hard time listening to any other live version than this one. This always hits me hard and soft at the same time. I danced to this song at my wedding reception. Much to the bitter chagrain of the entertainer. He flippin disappeared during this song for too long. My marriage didn't last beyond nine years. Six years later, I'm back with my ex and engaged again. There never was someone who fit my life and this song like her. Still does. I sung it to her then, I'll sing it as long as I live. This is the pinnacle of the magic of Phish. The piano of Page plays perfectly off Trey's beautiful playing. Epic at the least. God-like at an extreme case.
I met aTrey in early 2000 after the Big Cypress Y2K show in the Caribbean while J was working there. I was at a local bar and we chatted about the shows I went to. NYE at MSG 98, Clifford Ball in 96 and of course the Big Cypress Y2K He was impressed. He asked me what was my favorite song, I said wading in the velvet sea. We talked about it, and he asked me if I had any idea what ut was about. I thinks so. I want to share my story. Does anyone want to hear more.
In terms of emotion and what it meant and placement, that is true. And yes, I would not fully know cause I wasn't there unfortunately. Just speaking in terms of all the jams of this song, including Cypress, and this one tops it.
@TheEitanSilver I was second from the front at Manchester last year - the guard in front of me was stonefaced until I caught a picture of him like that and shot him a look - then I actually got a shot of a guard smiling!
Peaked on mushrooms to this song, truly magical
Isn’t life grand
Well geez I’d hope so buddy!
Jk that’s amazzzin 🍄
The Velvet Sea is the ultimate song of all time. Thank you for winning the universe Phish.
Their most magical song
I’ve been wading in the Velvet Sea! ❤
Best Band in the World. Hands down.
They on fire, rn. Second set, third night deer creek was the most fun I’ve seen them have in YEARS.
ARGUABLY ONE OF THE BEST SONGS I HAVE HAD THE PLEASURE TO LISTEN TOO. It was one of me and my late wife’s songs we would listen to all the time. Love this !!!!!
why was your wife late?
Always wading. Never really swimming.
My 20th show. Was lucky enough to be third row, center. That arena is HUGE.
Proof that Phish can be deep and not just goofy. Love this song
not sure how much closer you can get pouring emotions out through a guitar than this one.
The 2015-16 new years "waiting all night" does it for me

Best guitar solo ever

Flick, was that you?
Velvet Sea is the best song of all time.
Not the biggest Phish fan when it comes to their entire body of work but this song / jam is pure genius.
What a beautiful song
"you won't find moments in a box and someone else will set your clocks"
Thank You

Most beautiful song of all time
I cried (no shame) when they did this song at MSG. So fucking magical ❤
Trey with his stripes shirt. They had a poster of this show. Great phish !
I had that poster for years ! ❤
I had that too
Best jam of Wading I've ever heard. The one from 2-21 was great too, and the show I was at, but this one tops it. Great, great jam!
Yooourrr. Momma. I love this simple jam.
The greatest song of all time
That thin thread of wistfulness...of reflection one some times encounters in phish song. Excellent.
Well said.
I love you guys and I have more respect for you, your crew, and true fans more than almost everything, but 1 person. There you are tied.🤘🏼
Temazo !!!! uno de los solos mas emotivos de Trey, gracias muchachos por todos estos años de musica.
Kickass! Raised my daughter on this song/band
So good
Cried my eyes out a few times to this. Tears of fucking joy
The packaging begins to break
And all the points I tried to make
Are tossed with thoughts into a bin
Time leaks out my life leaks in
I’ll see you at the great Bong Shack
Gives me chills which i love feeling!
TEMAZO !!!!!!! gran momento de la banda
I agree....they are and they one of my fav....songs
i love this song, makes me think of josh Osborne, thank you for introducing me.

So hard to find such a clean solo
I'm new to Phish, but I'm sure I'm not leaving in a long time.
Trey rips off really simple but genius riff around 6:23 like it's nothing. Agonizingly perfect placement.
+LeSloth eased in with a tasty piano intro. Many versions of this song. Paige vocals. Goliath band at its best. I'll be on youtube tonite listening to this song in its many incarnations. 6:23
Sleep Peacefully, Lewis. I will always love you.
I want to go home
I was at this show - time - amen
