Interesting fact: This is from George Kollias Solo Album. But unlike most metal musicians (Or even, musicians in general) he truly means the word solo: He not only performed all drums but recorded all instruments: bass, guitar and even did the vocals. So he's also one of the best multi instrumentalists in metal today.
"so from what I can see.... This man is fucked up!" I think that's a universal compliment. I say it everytime I watch the guy play! I like your videos. Show us some killer jazz drummers we don't hear much about
Kollias mastered the heel toe technique beyond insanity. My mind just blows when think about playing double notes on each drum to form a 4 note stroke within a normal 2 note tempo... wtf
@@Kain_R_Heinlein He has a subtle way to switch from heel-toe to swivel if you watched enough of him, and that's almost unique between most the drummers. Nick Barker comes to mind, but he's a robot, so... it doesn't count.
@@Compendyum I... have seen a lot of him and I've never seen him once use heel toe lol. A drummer renowned for his single stroke and one foot speed would be sparking waves with a single known instance of heel toe. Please provide examples if they exist. He may not always use swivel (depending on the tempo) but he's always doing single strokes
I would hope he would implement his crossover skills in death metal too. I always find him to be exhilaratingly fast but overall really dull in Nile albums. His countryman Fotis Benardo is equally fast, but actually uses his skills in other musical areas to create some interesting jazzy dynamics in an otherwise 280 bpm blasting environment.
@TheMetalWeasel I love early Aborted, haven't been really into the newer stuff, got to check that one out. Seeing Nile live after waiting so many years was everything I wanted it to be. Their ability to play such complex music so perfectly live blew my fucking mind.
I remember that clip. Thing about that swivel technique: it's a sure path to high speed, but it destroys your ankles over time. George said in an interview that he was going to try and use it as little as possible; try to build speed with a straight foot. I think it's one of those habits that's hard to...kick?
Gene holgan...which death song? Which death drummer?...i love the drumming on crystal mountain, but I feel like there’s another comparable song that I’m not thinking of that would be something other than that
@@obi-wannabekennotbi2418 I have to agree with you on this one. Reinart is such an incredible drummer with amazing feel.
