Uff. I'm in the 'all chemical sunscreens sting my eyes category' - and I thought, I had it bad.
I like the Cetaphil PRO Redness Control spf30 tinted moisturizer, btw - in case, you're looking for recommendations.
It's a lightly tinted all mineral sunscreen, that becomes nearly invisible after a couple minutes.
It's very soothing, but not oily or heavy feeling.

Thanks for validating my experience! I got totally roasted by another UA-camr (who uses the Dr. title without being an actual MD) after I said we should stop demonizing the white cast because some of us simply can’t use chemical sunscreens. I would rather have a mild white cast than horrible contact dermatitis or skin cancer.

Chemical sunscreens make my skin feel “burny.” It’s not a visible irritation, but a mild (but persistent) stinging/burning sensation. When I can’t wear my big sun hat, I use the physical blocks.

I had such a hard time finding a sunscreen that wouldn't give me a rash and I thought it must be an allergy. I don't know what ingredient did it but even with some mineral sunscreens I'd get a rash. I finally got Aveeno baby sunscreen, which I love. For example, if I put on a sunscreen with zinc oxide and octocrylene as the active ingredients, I feel a stinging sensation and my face turns red, but if I use one with zinc oxide and octinoxate I'm perfectly fine. I have the most sensitive eyes *ever* - even some mineral sunscreens have still irritated my eyes so I totally understand. But the *only* one that has never irritated my eyes whatsoever is the Australian Gold Botanical Tinted Sunscreen SPF 50. It’s quite matte once it dries, so that’s mainly why I suspect it doesn’t irritate my eyes at all because it doesn’t budge, so absolutely no running or budging. You may find it a bit drying of course, but it doesn’t personally bother me that much as I usually moisturise before putting it on.
If you haven’t yet tried it, perhaps give it a go! It’s available on Amazon for $13.99 and is fragrance free. Seriously zero irritation for me - it’s amazing that at least one sunscreen doesn’t 😅😂

I am not so sure about allergic reactions to sunscreens or sunlight specifically but there is a reason I mostly use baby products regardless of how people view me. The sunscreens I am currently using are all for babies or safe for babies/children, and so far they have served me very well. They have shorter ingredient lists compared to adult sunscreens with the bare minimum and gentle ingredients and the formulation also tends to be more moisturizing as well so I go for baby sunscreens 9/10.

I asked you about this before on your insta. I had an allergic reaction to chemical sunscreen. I looked at the ingredients in mineral sunscreen and found they contain zinc. A few months ago I used a serum from The Ordinary containing zinc and niacinamide. It caused acne shortly after using it. My skin was clear prior to using it. I have a Curology formula that works amazingly at clearing my skin. It contains 4% niacinamide. Since I've used Niacinamide before, I thought the zinc was causing me to break out. I thought I was allergic to zinc or zinc was causing acne. For this reason I thought I could not use mineral sunscreen. After doing research and talking to my dermatologist, I learned that zinc cannot cause acne or allergic reactions because it is in our bodies naturally/we need zinc. Zinc actually helps clear acne. I did a bit more research and found out the percentage of Niacinamide in the The Ordinary serum was probably causing me to break out. I know you made a video about this as well.

He had to look it up I think in order to believe that this is an actual thing. He finally gave me a referral to a derm so I could get tested (so I know what ingredients I'm sensitive to & stay away from); then asked for the results. Anyway, thank you for validating what I have been suffering with, it means so much to hear this.

Yes, my son was born in '87 and after a while I realised that it was the PABA sunscreens that gave him a 'pimply', red, scaly, rash on his face. (Cortisone was the only thing that heeled it...and you can't use that all the time). After then, I only bought "PABA free" sunscreens for him. I'm glad (even as a young mum) that I persisted for the sake of his skin health. This, lifestyle factors and hopefully genetics have played a part in him still looking young and handsome today!

I started getting rashes like this (only on my face and neck) in 2019. I’ve tried and tested dozens and dozens of sunscreens. Finally found Purito Centella sunscreen - until their SPF scandal. My main takeaway based on my own research and lengthy spreadsheet comparing ingredients was that it was the main actives of chemical sunscreens. I’m so strongly against wanting to use physical sunscreens on a daily basis that I kept trying until I found Josie Maren Argan Daily Moisturizer. It’s the least thick out of the products I tried and smells pretty good. It takes a while to dry down before I can apply makeup but it’s better than nothing!! Dr. Dray have you ever heard of “hell’s itch”? I couldn’t find too much information on it and there’s probably an appropriate term for it. Basically it’s like an intense/painful itching that feels like they’re stabbing you with needles all over, and if you scratch it it burns even more. I experienced this last summer and I literally almost went to the emergency room because it felt extremely painful and uncomfortable. Crazy enough the only thing that made it feel better was reaaallly hot water(which makes no sense to me since my skin was probably burnt-although it wasn’t red or peeling). This lasted about two days and I literally would cry myself to sleep because of the intense pain/stabbing itching I felt. Taking benadryl helped a little. Any idea what this could be? The only things I found were reddit subs and like one study on it. Would truly appreciate your input!
