I like the strategy on filling out the rotation on short term deals. That said we could really use a younger #1 starter and maybe that has to come via trading a few prospects.
He’s been successful with this philosophy. We need a horse, but I’d rather be saddled with 2 years of a mediocre Montas than to be saddled with 8 years of Burns if worst case scenarios play out with both players
@@MetCastPod I agree with that, but you can make a case that a 31+ year old ace won't be in just 3 years or so, then you're stuck with an overpaid 4th or 5th starter, or worse yet, an ace that just blew his elbow and needs 2 years to get back to some semblance of what he was.. I would rather try and trade for a younger one right now, or grab some guys that are still relatively young that have some upside, especially if you trust the pitching lab that they've spent a lot of money on, and use that free agency money to get younger aces that may be available in the future while trying to raise the floor on the rest of the roster and shore up any other weaknesses in the roster. Yes, you need an ace and at least a couple of superstars, but injuries do happen. Especially to pitchers, so if you can't get a young ace, use the money so that if anybody gets injured, your roster is still deep enough to compete.
I agree 100 percent with you, we are looking to sign Soto, and go for a ws title next year, let’s get some sure shots in the rotation, we have room in the budget, a rich owner who wants to win, why can’t we sign max fried at the least!
I think there is definitely a chance. He is a prototypical Stern type player in his mid 20s. It would probably cost us at least two of our top five prospects, including. Either Jett Williams or Drew Gilbert
We know what it’s like to have Wilpon syndrome. It’s just like being a jets fan. We’re expecting to have someone shit on us. Going all the way back to when Reggie and catfish were free agents.
@@MetCastPod Severino and Manea, especially Severino were dominant 5 years ago. Also, while true they were successfull with Sevy and Manea, they weren't 2 for 2. They brought in others that didn't work out. So the law of averages isn't really in play here. Love what you do, by the way.

I get it, I just feel we need a legitimate ace. That’s what will help us go through the NL East.

Thanks brother 🙏 what happened last year with the Dodgers winning with no pitching is an extreme rarity
We'll know for sure by Tuesday
Do u think we will trade 4 Crochet and what do u think it will costs prospect wise?

11:13 No to Aronado
The Mets tried extending Pete for $150 million, he said no. So they at least tried
Montas has pedigree as well. Wasn’t he an all star and like 6th in Cy Young voting one year?
I believe that was five years ago
