I believe that the problem is that cars keep getting better. I would say like the Mclaren Senna and the Bugatti Divo, they should almost have their own name for them. They are light weight and fast as frick. They have the look, price, and specs, to make them hyper car like. But the Lamborghini Huracan, I would consider a high end sports car at this point. I’m not saying it’s not fast, because it definately is, but it’s not as good as the stuff coming out now. It’s sorta more common now, as it has been out longer, and is now like a trend. The Audi R8 could also be considered one. But I agree with the Mclaren F1. It’s a very weird car to classify, because it’s ahead of most cars on the market today, in terms of specs. It’s not very common, mainly because they stopped making them, but, and I might be completely wrong on this, it’s probably faster than a Huracan. So I would consider it as a hypercar, because you could put it up against an Aventador, and it might do pretty well, if not beat it. My end thought is that it just comes down to personal preference and marketing. Like the company name, Royalty Exotics. I’m not throwing shade, but it’s all a marketing strat, to say that they sell or let people rent out an exotic car, when they have other cars that they sell. Hope you get better in Atlanta ❤️
Huracan is probably quicker than an F1. It was AWD and launch control and twenty years' worth of technology held over the F1. But nothing really comes close to the F1's ridiculous top speed. You can argue cars like your Veyron SS's, Agera RS's, your Venoms and Chirons are faster, but they are so far ahead of the F1 in time yet they barely eclipse it. The F1 is the world's first hypercar, and honestly, probably the best one.
I think what he is trying to say in the video is that as time went by, there were more supercars, and so to try to classify the types of supercars the term hypercar began to be used. The F1 was alway a hypercar, but that classification didn't exist in its time, but if it did, it would have been a hypercar in its time and not a supercar, which is why now that the term hypercar exists, it is classified as a hypercar
Supercars on the Fly Miura is more of the modern concept of a supercar than a grand tourer, though. Otherwise, I think the official name for those cars is actually grand tourer. You are correct, but I just wanted to point that out.
At some point in the past, all cars were just "cars". Until one day, one car changed it all: *LAMBORGHINI FREAKING MIURA* On that day, the "Hypercar" was born.
Nope, "officially" the first hypercar was the McLaren F1. With it being over 1M $ and able to reach 400 km/h (some say this is the definition of hypercar)
By that logic, since multiple people argue over whether the Earth is flat or round, it must be flat. Does that also mean if you found a few people who argued that the Bugatti Veyron was actually a minivan, it would have to be one since that's the lowest classification being argued?
It's really just the natural course of things: 100 years ago a car was a luxury item, 60 years ago having a car was normal and special cars, like the MB300SL and Ferraris were crazy fast and special, and now you can buy family saloons that go from 0-60 in half the time it took those early supercars. Over time, luxury will become commodity and where 25 years ago the XJ220 was outlandishly fast and 15 years ago it could keep up with almost anything, today its performance isn't special anymore. If we accept that being special/extreme/exotic isn't a requirement, we will inevitably have to add new categories above the old ones, since modern supercars are objectively very comparable to old supercars, but there's now a category above. It's abit like how the terms for resolution went from HD to FHD to UHD andsoforth.
Lol, we'll just pull a biker community term XD Although for real though, we need to have a middle ground, I never thought of that! My only two solutions were either to add another category at the end, or make current ones harder to enter, but a middle ground category actually makes more sense!
person fishforce that term does exist and I think cars like the Corvette and GTR are super sports cars because they do have traits of a supercar but they aren’t there yet
I would almost consider cars like the nsx, gtr, and corvette as “anti super cars”, as in they’re made to compete with super cars for less money and advancement but still meet the performance requirements
Personally I see hypercars as something fit for the track or one of a kind. The FXX-K, Veneno, 918 Spyder, Venom GT, Agera family, Huayra BC, (hell even the NIO EP9 for the EV enthusiasts) they're not maybe all track based, but they're iconic, exotic, fast, pretty much the old definition of supercar like you said (and also worth 6 arms, 4 legs and 3 hearts). I think that earlier, before the term hypercar was popular or even a thing, we just used sports or super to define a really wide range because there was a definite difference, but now with the sudden influx of "super" cars we needed another division.
well, if you take the original Viper concept of being as fast as possible, as cheap as possible (so basically a huge engine and a chassis, nothing extra), it is the same as the 60's concept of muscle cars, except the body shape.
I feel like their should be a category between sports car and super car called "super sport cars" for cars like the Corvette Z06 and Nissan GTR and cars that are simmilar or on par with their performance which could make some cars not super cars even though they are called so. And I think an exotic car doesn't need to be high performance, it just needs to be out of the ordinary like the BMW i8 or Ariel Atom.
The Nürburgring is only one track. Many different tracks have different setups. One car may be extremely fast on the 'Ring, and shit everywhere else. Also, you can never tell if a car manufacturer is lying or not (cough cough Nissan cough cough). Using Nürburgring laps solely to judge cars is almost silly. A Camaro ZL1 1LE has a faster lap than a 488 GTB, does that make it a supercar? A Z06 has a faster lap than a Nürburgring Edition LFA, does that make it a supercar, or more of a supercar than the LFA? The Nürburgring is probably the most overrated track known to mankind.
I feel the definition is getting back to the original. Ferraris and Lamborghinis were Exotic cars because there were cars faster but it was the rarity and luxury that made them so. Super car was basically a street legal race car think AC Cobra, L88 corvette or the later ZR-1 GNX. They didn't make the definition of sports car but didn't fit muscle car either as they had the handling and the power. Hypercar originally referred to Hybrid Exotic/Supercar it's all about the electric motor in addition to the gas engine. It's interesting that that is absobing the ultra kuxurious cars now too but the definitions of Super and Exotic are reverting. Interesting times we live in at the moment.
The thing is that you don't get to see a GTR every day, thus it's still pretty rare. It's not about how many companies are making supercars, it's about their sale number comparing to normal cars.
What I think a supercar should be are listed below. 550+ hp to 800 hp Top speed over 190 mph 0-60 time under 3.5 seconds Priced over 140k Have beautiful and explicit design Great track performance Note that the classifications are for super cars 2010 and newer. Older super cars are slower, and the classifications have to be changed for their time. We should not judge older super to modern super cars, because of inferior technology and engineering.
I made a very in-depth comment on the other video you mentioned, so I will keep it a bit shorter this time :) I think when we look at supercars and hypercars as a term, there are two main factors to consider. To what extend do the cars do compromises to achieve greater performance - and with which cars do they compete. It is also important to note that there are lower and upper classes of each type of cars. Supercars are, as you say, very overall performance oriented and generally focus less on daily drivability and practical design choices than regular sportscars, and pursue more race inspired looks by sacrificing stuff like interior space, outside visibility, few creature comforts, etc. Hypercars are a step up from Supercars in the sense, that they sacrifice even more in their pursuit of performance - this time in a manner that can be considered outright radical or extreme. This is often tied with a higher cost, because extremities are usually not cheap. It can be a full carbon monocoque matched to a more experimental and less consumer friendly engine type, and pushrod suspension. It can also be something like the Lamborghini Sesto Elemento (if we imagine it was in production) where the dedication to carbonfibre and low weight is such a big compromise on everything except performance, that even though it still has a Gallardo engine it classes as a Hypercar because it is such a radical and performance seeking car. Money and costs in general is rarely a factor in Supercar and Hypercar classes, but it is often a byproduct of seeking such high performance and being able to match the competition. - And competition is key here. Something like a Nissan GTR is in the lower end of the Supercar scale, it is a gateway into the supercar scene, and while driving it you will be seen as a part of the supercar group. Something like a Camaro ZL1 will not. Likewise a Pagani Zonda can be a gateway into Hypercar territory, but a Ferrari F12 stays in the upper class of Supercars along with the Aventador and similar cars. The Pagani might have somewhat similar power as the other cars mentioned, but every other aspect is so extreme in comparison that it sets itself above supecar status. It has its incredibly crafted interior, the radical body styling, the very racecar-like proportions and design, and a material use way above what you would need for basic supercar performance. Whoops made it a bit longer than intended. Oh well, we are all petrolheads so I hope people wont mind the read ;)
6:52 We already have-the Koenigsegg One:1 has been advertised as a megacar (which I firmly believe is stupid). On the note of GTRs and Corvettes, I feel that if a trim is mechanically different enough, then it could be considered a supercar, hence why the Corvette Z06, Jaguar F-Type SVR, and the Porsche 911 Turbo S count as supercars.
In my eyes the levels of spotiness in cars goes like this: ¤1st level: ROADSTER-an entry level sportscar with mainstream components, light and nimble (eg miata, triumph spitfire) ¤2nd level: SPORTSCAR A car that has sweet performance in a well rounded package that makes it suitable even as a daily (eg porsche 911, jaguar ftype, toyota supra) ¤3d level: SUPERCAR A car that its main focus is speed and lap records (eg ferrari f430 stradale, nissan gtr). HOWEVER, in this category I consider also the exotics like the lamborghini aventador or even the ferrari 355 ¤4th level: HYPERCAR Now we don't speak about cars but for rockets with wheels...eg the koengissegg agera, the holy trinity (918,p1,laferrari) ¤5th level: MEGACARS The first true megacar was the fxx evolutione which was followed by the widow-maker one:1...we are talking for absolute insanity in this level ladies and gentlemen ¤6th level: COSMOCARS Well this is a category that I 've made up and currently is empty with only two candidates at the moment, the aston martin valkyrie amr pro and the devell sixteen....this category contains cars that push the envelope and try to defy the laws of physics...
@@underscore8085 I don't think so...the f40 and the f50 were also f1 inspired cars and they are not considered megacars...let's say that the mercedes amg 1 is a hypercar...
@Rip Curl 69 well that's why there is a description in each category....now that you mentioned the senna...I think that it is a megacar....cause it is mclaren 's fxxK rival...
Like you said for the nsx "it's a supercar because it was a super car for that era" so we should have the super and hyper car status but keep on reapeting that for that time if that makes sence
I think games have part of the labelling right. If it goes over 190mph/306kmh, is desirable, has at most 2+2 seats and pursues spirited handling and high general performance on tarmac, then it's a supercar. Exotics are a subset that further play on the desirability and expenses, hence "exotic". Hypercars are the extreme, targetting maximum speed, costs and wall-poster-ness, and I'll label anything with either exclusively 2 seats or unconventional seating, extreme looks and prestige, general track performance focus and high tech manufacturing a hypercar if it breaks the F1's top speed. The definition of all of this, of course, changes through time. The 300SL of the 50's may have just been called a sports car, but since not much could ever touch it, it's safe to bracket it as a 50's super or even hyper, especially since it used technology not found in any other road going car that day. The 60's and 70's Ferraris and Lamborghinis were also called sports, but the top performance models were still super. I think beating the era's top speed for a road going car is important in determining if it's at least super, but after the 90s the amount of super and hyper cars has increased.
So i understand like this Super car=hyper car Sports car=super sports car Quick japan cars=sports cars (rx 8,mitsubishi evo,z370)all nfs hotpursuit XD Normal cars=cheap cars High horsepower low topspeed v8=muscle car
It gets me wondering, those criterias will eventualy evolve to the point we'll have something like a ultra car ? I recon there's such a level of distinction between a sporty car and a super car which doesn't seem too apparent... that's why the supercar mentions a lot of sacrifices. Very interessting video, thank you
I have a feeling that sports cars will be specifically made for a certain scenario, then will be called more specific names, like "Track Car" or "Drag Car", eg. The new Celica GT. A track car for the everyday lifestyle.
I'd say instead of Hypercar, that sort of definition with luxury and prestige belongs to a GT car. The thing about that is that you have GT cars, and you have Track cars, like the Apollo IE, Aston Martin Vulcan, Koenigsegg one:1, etc. Hypercar is a fine line between those 2 categories, like the Bugatti Veyron/Chiron, Koenigsegg Regera, etc.
its def an interesting discussion here. maybe when the term Hyper is overused, we might see Legendary status Then we might have Pseudo Hypers for car which falls just under the Hypercar status or already in the case of the GTR being a Pseudo Supercar since it has super car like specs but not as exotic as a Lambo
I remember when the Koenigsegg One:1 came out, people were calling it “the first Megacar” because of its high horsepower and the near 1:1 power to weight. I feel like ‘Super’ doesn’t need to be exclusive, it just has to be something that pushes style and performance to the maximum. I think Hypercars have come to embody the older Supercar term because they’re definitely exclusive, but they also push technology and the performance of the vehicles even higher than supercars. Like Lamborghini’s many concept vehicles, think of the Terzo Millenio. I feel like that shows what a hypercar is, something futuristic. So maybe Supercars are like the height of performance now, while Hypercars are the possible heights in the future, concepts if you will (but not just concept cars). Then there’s the possibility of ‘Megacars’ like the One:1 which would push Hypercars even further, or achieve something making it closer to becoming the ultimate road car. Honestly, I don’t really know, I’m just learning everything I know about cars from Forza, UA-cam and Google hahaha.
Just a thought: Ferrari is like you mentioned without a doubt a supercar company. But would you consider the Portofino or the California a supercar? I consider them to "only" be sports cars.
I have owned multiple Vettes & the only one I have seen as a ‘super car’ is the ZR1. The reason I love the Vettes & GT-R’s is they are at a price point where you can build them into what you want them to be, a drag car, track car or all around car.
Both the Corvette and Nissan GT-R are GTs (Gran Turismo/Grand Touring cars/Grand Tourers), i. e. exotic cars with engine in front (or sometimes rear) or a street version of an exotic car that competes in endurance racing (or both). They're NOT EVEN CLOSE to sports cars. They're far above them. Ever noticed that almost every generation of the Corvette raced only in GT classes? • C2: SCCA Production class • C3: IMSA GT and SCCA Trans-Am GT1 • C4: IMSA GTO and FIA/LM GT1 • C5: FIA/LM GT2 (also known as GTS/GT/new GT1), FIA/LM GT3 (also known as GT2/GTE Pro/GTLM) and SCCA Trans-Am GT1 • C6: FIA/LM GT2 (also known as GTS/GT/new GT1), FIA/LM GT3 (also known as GT2/GTE Pro/GTLM), FIA/LM GT4 (also known as GT3/GTE AM/GTD), SCCA Trans-Am GT1 and SCCA GT • C7: FIA/LM GT3 (also known as GT2/GTE Pro/GTLM) and FIA/LM GT4 (also known as GT3/GTE AM/GTD) *Nissan GT-R* • FIA/LM GT2 (also known as GTS/GT/new GT1) • FIA/LM GT4 (also known as GT3/GTE AM/GTD) • GT500 I think that says it all.
Made before 2000: Nurburgring below 8:15:000= supercar Made after 2000 and before 2010 Nurburgring below 8:00:00 = supercar Made after 2010 Nurburgring below 7:45:000= supercar Cars must be in stock trim, setup and tyres. You could use a different track like Suzuka or Spa for example. Everything that matters is performance on track imo(not dragstrip or ovals). All talk about "exclusivity" and "luxury" is irrelevant imo. The stopwatch NEVER lies.
My definition of supercar is: "Exotic, expensive and beyond the reach of a common man. Having high exclusivity. Engine placement doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be among the fastest cars but speed must be a part of the design philosopy."
I will argue the 570s and R8 are not supercars, the defining feature of a supercar is its looks, thats what separates them from sports car. The 570s looks cool but its no aventador, and i’ve seen accountants drive more interesting cars than an R8. However i loved the vids and hope your feeling better!!
How is the 570s NOT a supercar? It's a freakin' McLaren, I'm pretty sure McLaren aren't known for making ordinary sports cars, they are known for making supercars. Also, the R8 shares the same chassis and drive train as the Gallardo (first generation R8), and Huracan (second generation R8), and I'm pretty sure both the Gallardo and Huracan are supercars, aren't they?
how about the koenigsegg one:1 dubbed a "mega car"? 1341.02hp = 1 megawatt output I believe is Christian's rationale there. then again 1hp/1kg power/weight is pretty phenomenal. Extreme limited edition, upper stratosphere cost, where will it end?!
I think the cars of the 90s needed the hypercar term. Because they broke so many boundaries like the eb110 and the xj220 and the f1 and the f50. If you compare these cars in top speed and styling they very much resemble supercars of today. I think they were really the first hypercar. Idk just thinking
Supercar: a car which prioritizes high performance over usability (regardless of looks) Exotic car: a rare, outlandishly-styled exclusive car which looks, feels, and sounds exclusive, inside and out Sports car: a car which is focused on a fun driving experience, often with a touch of balance and affordability involved The above definitions can be matched to accurately describe most enthusiast oriented vehicles. For example: Nissan GT-R: Supercar McLaren 570s: exotic supercar Alfa Romeo 4c: exotic sports car Toyota GT86: sports car
For me, supercars are fast cars that are between the sports segment (86, Exige, Cayman) and the hypercar segment, need to be somewhat rare, but not exactly exclusive, and some luxury needs to be involved. They are overall more "dramatic" and shocking. As for the hypercars, they are a sub-category of the supercars, for the 1% to the 2% of population that sacrifice almost everything to be fast (be it looks, luxury, sound, fuel economy or price of maintenance), and also need to meet one of Bugatti Veyron's specs (either 1000hp or 400km/h) because that was the car that started this trend of full performance-oriented cars (although it was quite luxurious)
I always think of cars like the huracan as starter super cars while cars like the aventador or 488 pitta are sort of higher tier super cars. I think HyperCar isn’t thrown around as much as supercar was back in the day we just have a lot of these sort of starter super cars that still stand below the top trim super cars which are below the hypercars

you can also include, that only a few things in a car have to be super for a supercar. to consider this you have to look at every aspect on the car and decide weather it's a supercar or not. it depends, for someone who like to drive around with some chicks, couldn't do this with an extreme single seater.
A supercar must be/have : - Super expensive - Super exclusive - Super beautiful - Super sounding engine - Super handling - Super straight line performance GTR and Corvettes are super sportscars, not pure supercars...
:CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC that's exactly why all the older sportscars/supercars are going up in value, even 1st gen vipers are a chunk of money these days, but still offer a totally mechanical and raw experience when daily driven, meanwhile a new tesla p90d is what 3-4x the money, makes no sounds, is a big heavy S class competitor that people lump with lamborghinis for purely acceleration alone......... sorry i ranted but cars are my life (i have 16) and this trend scares me
In regards to the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the 50s and 60s, road cars like the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso and Lamborghini 350GT are known as grand tourer cars. With that said, cars like the Mercedes-Benz 300SL, Ferrari 250 GT Lusso, and the Lamborghini 350GT were still rather fast for their time. The Lamborghini Miura is arguably one of the first iterations of a modern, mid-engine, road supercar. However, I don’t think the idea of supercars took off until the 70s and/or 80s. Good video, btw.

Well the 304 GTS and Urraco yes but not the Countach and 308 BB
A Lusso would be more of a grand tourer whereas a SWB is more of a super car

By that logic, since multiple people argue over whether the Earth is flat or round, it must be flat.

Nkosi McRae Mclaren p1, Laferarri, and Bugatti Chiron
It pisses me off when people call the Viper and Corvette muscle cars
The Corvette could, theoretically be considered a muscle car, but it belongs more into the supercar category. The Viper is clearly a supercar.
well, if you take the original Viper concept of being as fast as possible, as cheap as possible (so basically a huge engine and a chassis, nothing extra), it is the same as the 60's concept of muscle cars, except the body shape.

No man, the GTR is a slayer(tuner) not a super car
GTR, NSX (3rd gen) and ZR1 are supercar for me. NSX first gen still a tuner car (like Supra mk4, Skyline GTR and RX7).
What about the M4s and M5? (Excluding the Sedans)
The M4 is more of a GT car and not a very good one cuz it failed to beat the Mustang GT and Camaro SS

I think supercars should be based on the Nürburgring track time from when they were made

Controversial for years now. No
Agree , all performance cars needs to be tested in every race track not just the Nurburgring
the Ferrari 360 cs got better time than the koengggeeeeseeeeg does that make it a hyper car

*Thanos freaking car next*
What I think a supercar should be are listed below.
550+ hp to 800 hp
Top speed over 190 mph
0-60 time under 3.5 seconds
Priced over 140k
Have beautiful and explicit design
Great track performance
Note that the classifications are for super cars 2010 and newer. Older super cars are slower, and the classifications have to be changed for their time. We should not judge older super to modern super cars, because of inferior technology and engineering.
Megacar: Acar with ridiculous amounts of horsepower and over 1MW of power (e.g. koenisegg one to one, regera)
A Bugatti Chiron and Divo are also Megacars by definition
The Regera, Chiron are not megacars but hypercars (One:1 and Agera RS are), while the Divo is a track-focused supercar.
I made a very in-depth comment on the other video you mentioned, so I will keep it a bit shorter this time :)
I think when we look at supercars and hypercars as a term, there are two main factors to consider.
A MEGAcar is the tier above the hypercar, for example, the Koenigsegg One:1.
Megacar are cars that has more than 1360 HP (because 1360 HP = 1 megawatt)
That was just a term thrown around the Koenigsegg factory when the One:1 was being worked on. It isn't really a legitimate class.
it can be the creator of that category, but for now we need to wait for another 1:1 power/weight ratio Megacar.
Edit: Nvm, forgot about the Regera
they have to call its something because its on a different league compared to other cars so is chiron
In my eyes the levels of spotiness in cars goes like this:
¤1st level: ROADSTER-an entry level sportscar with mainstream components, light and nimble (eg miata, triumph spitfire)
¤2nd level: SPORTSCAR
A car that has sweet performance in a well rounded package that makes it suitable even as a daily (eg porsche 911, jaguar ftype, toyota supra)
¤3d level: SUPERCAR
A car that its main focus is speed and lap records (eg ferrari f430 stradale, nissan gtr). HOWEVER, in this category I consider also the exotics like the lamborghini aventador or even the ferrari 355
¤4th level: HYPERCAR
Now we don't speak about cars but for rockets with wheels...eg the koengissegg agera, the holy trinity (918,p1,laferrari)
¤5th level: MEGACARS
The first true megacar was the fxx evolutione which was followed by the widow-maker one:1...we are talking for absolute insanity in this level ladies and gentlemen
¤6th level: COSMOCARS
Well this is a category that I 've made up and currently is empty with only two candidates at the moment, the aston martin valkyrie amr pro and the devell sixteen....this category contains cars that push the envelope and try to defy the laws of physics...
I'm interested in where the Mercedes AMG Project 1 would go ... F1 based drive train, amazing aerodynamics etc. I'd say Megacar.
@@underscore8085 I don't think so...the f40 and the f50 were also f1 inspired cars and they are not considered megacars...let's say that the mercedes amg 1 is a hypercar...
@Rip Curl 69 I am just saying some examples to make it clear for what I am talking about...that why there is an "e.g." in front of the cars

You made a great vid even though you were still have sleeping. Keep this effort up👍
I think games have part of the labelling right.
So i understand like this
Super car=hyper car
Sports car=super sports car
Quick japan cars=sports cars (rx 8,mitsubishi evo,z370)all nfs hotpursuit XD
Normal cars=cheap cars
High horsepower low topspeed v8=muscle car
It gets me wondering, those criterias will eventualy evolve to the point we'll have something like a ultra car ? I recon there's such a level of distinction between a sporty car and a super car which doesn't seem too apparent... that's why the supercar mentions a lot of sacrifices. Very interessting video, thank you
A hypercar delivers ground-breaking performance and has the looks and price tag to back it up
bugatti is now a megacar company ( a hypercar with more than one mega watt of power).
In of one Salomondrin’s podcast he talked about what he thought a hypercar was. And I agree with his statement
its def an interesting discussion here.
maybe when the term Hyper is overused, we might see Legendary status
Then we might have Pseudo Hypers for car which falls just under the Hypercar status
or already in the case of the GTR being a Pseudo Supercar since it has super car like specs but not as exotic as a Lambo
The modern usage of Hyper and Super cars may have just come down to the performance statistics of the cars
iPhone 8= standard car
iPhone X = super car

Just a thought: Ferrari is like you mentioned without a doubt a supercar company. But would you consider the Portofino or the California a supercar? I consider them to "only" be sports cars.
I think the Portofino and California belong in the GT category.
Love ur content man. Keep it up
Exceeds 1 million dollars, is my definition for hyper car
Are some new muscle cars "regular" supercars? I'm asking the same question for the Dodge Viper
The "hyper-" vs "super-" discussion reminds me of the new F1 tyre rules change this year.
I have owned multiple Vettes & the only one I have seen as a ‘super car’ is the ZR1. The reason I love the Vettes & GT-R’s is they are at a price point where you can build them into what you want them to be, a drag car, track car or all around car.
6:13 That G37's speed though
In the future, when cars look like they came straight from a video game, do you think that they would be called cyber cars or cyber hyper cars?
Both the Corvette and Nissan GT-R are GTs (Gran Turismo/Grand Touring cars/Grand Tourers), i. e. exotic cars with engine in front (or sometimes rear) or a street version of an exotic car that competes in endurance racing (or both). They're NOT EVEN CLOSE to sports cars. They're far above them. Ever noticed that almost every generation of the Corvette raced only in GT classes?

all of these people calling the ZR1 a supercar is chafing me internally :D
the old definition has ascended
Made before 2000:
Nurburgring below 8:15:000= supercar
Made after 2000 and before 2010
Nurburgring below 8:00:00 = supercar
Made after 2010
Nurburgring below 7:45:000= supercar
Cars must be in stock trim, setup and tyres. You could use a different track like Suzuka or Spa for example.
Everything that matters is performance on track imo(not dragstrip or ovals). All talk about "exclusivity" and "luxury" is irrelevant imo.
The stopwatch NEVER lies.
Nice vid. Thanks for the upload
We already made a category above Hypercar. The Agera RS/XS/One:1 are Megacars
My definition of supercar is: "Exotic, expensive and beyond the reach of a common man. Having high exclusivity. Engine placement doesn't matter. It doesn't have to be among the fastest cars but speed must be a part of the design philosopy."
Damn what's the song that plays at like half way through the video, it sounds good.
Hi bladed I love the vids keep it up also can do another video on every car in 4 words
I think the cars of the 90s needed the hypercar term. Because they broke so many boundaries like the eb110 and the xj220 and the f1 and the f50. If you compare these cars in top speed and styling they very much resemble supercars of today. I think they were really the first hypercar. Idk just thinking
any car that goes 300 kmh(186mph) from factory and goes from 0-100 kmh(0-62mph) in less than 5 seconds is a supercar in my book
Supercar: a car which prioritizes high performance over usability (regardless of looks)
Exotic car: a rare, outlandishly-styled exclusive car which looks, feels, and sounds exclusive, inside and out
Sports car: a car which is focused on a fun driving experience, often with a touch of balance and affordability involved
The above definitions can be matched to accurately describe most enthusiast oriented vehicles. For example:
Nissan GT-R: Supercar
McLaren 570s: exotic supercar
Alfa Romeo 4c: exotic sports car
Toyota GT86: sports car
very nice informative video, agree with your definitions
I already heard somewhere that above hypercars, there will be super-hyper cars

A supercar must be/have :
- Super expensive
- Super exclusive
- Super beautiful
- Super sounding engine
- Super handling
- Super straight line performance
GTR and Corvettes are super sportscars, not pure supercars...
it seems like only 1 in 10,000 commenters on this video actually gets it (which is fucking terrifying)
Engine sound is becoming less important these days because Tesla
:CCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCCC
that's exactly why all the older sportscars/supercars are going up in value, even 1st gen vipers are a chunk of money these days, but still offer a totally mechanical and raw experience when daily driven, meanwhile a new tesla p90d is what 3-4x the money, makes no sounds, is a big heavy S class competitor that people lump with lamborghinis for purely acceleration alone.........
sorry i ranted but cars are my life (i have 16) and this trend scares me
In regards to the Ferraris and Lamborghinis of the 50s and 60s, road cars like the Ferrari 250 GT Lusso and Lamborghini 350GT are known as grand tourer cars.
I think it was more at the 80's with cars like the Countach, the 288 GTO, the F4, the 959 and so on that popularized the term supercar
Starfire Storm I was gonna say just 80s, but I put both 70s and 80s just to be safe.
