    We've had our 23 for a week now. Given all the bad reviews, I almost didn't consider it but started noticing some really great lease deals on the remaining 23s. My wife and I have actually driven most EVs either via rentals or test drives over the past year, so we had a pretty good sense of what we like and dislike. Usually, one of us will really hate something and it'll be a deal breaker. With this car, we both got out and looked at each other waiting for the inevitable deal breaker comment. It drove really nicely and punches above its weight in terms of suspension, seat comfort and steering feel and refinement. Actually preferred it in many ways even to a rental BMW iX we got over the summer. Having read all the bad reviews, I had low expectations for the infotainment and I did warn my wife (who is a technophobe) about it. We both agreed that as long as it had CarPlay we didn't really care that much. My only real gripes are that it takes too long to connect to Carplay (or even to start playing satellite radio). Worse than any other car i've owned or rented in that respect. My other gripe is that they dont give you a way to view media info on the driver display. I rarely use the driver assistance or nav views, but would love to have media info front and center. At the very least, would it have killed them to add a button to flip through the different sources on the steering wheel (almost every car i've owned or driven in the past 20 years has had this feature)? Oh, and the window switches are dumb but forutunatley I rarely need to use them. That's it. But, overall, we are really liking this car. Honestly, the only cars I'd want more than this one would be a Taycan wagon or the upcoming Audi A6 etron wagon...both of which would be over double the price of an ID4. And, as far as comparing to what you can get in terms of ICE vehicles for this price...forget it. I do love the looks of the Ioniq5 but the lease prices of those are much higher and I didn't think the build quality or ride quality was as as good. Mustang Mach E didn't do anything for me. And I can't even imagine picking a crappy turbo 4 cylinder (even ones from Audi or BMW) over this. Teslas have too many deal breakers to even list.

    I've had my 2024 ID.4 S for a week now and I love it. Everyone rags on the software and infotainment screen, I don't have a problem with it. It is very layered, and can be difficult to deal with while driving, but if you put the apps you like on your favorites, it's much easier to handle while driving. Once I get my level 2 home charger installed then all will be great.

    The main advantage of the haptic buttons is swiping. You don’t need to look down or fidget when you swipe. It took me by surprise when I realized how those haptic buttons are intended to be used. It’s amazingly intuitive to use, when you need to adjust ACC cruising speed or sound volume or skip songs on the steering wheel. You just swipe your thumbs across the middle of the panels , super easy and effortless, no need to look down or find the right buttons. It’s a pity those buttons are misunderstood. Have had our 2022 ID. for a year. It's an absolute joy to use.

      Thanks for shedding light on the "issues" that are consistently raised with this car. I just test drove one and decided to buy a 2023 base model. Loved it. Much better than the other EVs I've tested this week (Nero, Kona). The obsession with the rear window control is rediculous as is the unlighted sliders. Every car has oddities. The positives of the ID4 are huge for me.

    Thanks for the review! Only 2,500 miles on my 2023 Pro S AWD so far and I love the ID.4. As stated in your review, the ID.4 is a nice riding/handling car, far nicer than others I've owned. I, too, love the travel assist functions and use them anytime I'm on the highway. Yes, the software can lag on startup and trying to fast charge on a cold battery can be frustrating, but overall, the ID.4 is a great vehicle that just happens to be an EV. The AWD handles wonderfully in snow, probably the best vehicle I have ever owned in that regard, even without dedicated snow tires.

    I have the 2023 ProS rwd and enjoy the car for the most part. Seats are comfy, heated seats are great. Smooth and quiet. I use the cruise control functions around town more than highway driving actually. I never could log in as the main user so I’m just a guest in my own car. I agree with much of what you folks have said. I noticed your car was up to 170+kw while charging. The highest I’ve reached is maybe 133kw at a 350kw station. I envy the Ionic5’s and EV6’s that charge in 15-20 minutes. So far my biggest pet peeve is my key fob batteries now last maybe two weeks. I’ve turned off the Auto Unlock/proximity features, tried different battery brands, no difference. The original batteries lasted 3 months but since then, two weeks. I use a faraday box when at home. I have to carry a spare battery in my pocket when I leave the house. I’m worried I will break the plastic cover on the door handle each time I need to use the actual key to open the door. My first year of ownership will be in June ‘24. Good job on your channel btw!

    I picked up a used 2023 pro s awd last week and I really like it. I drove it from Southern California back home to Washington state. Great ride, great charging with the sk battery, running version 3.5 and it’s snappier than the UI on my last 2 vehicles. Most major complaints are a non issue for me. Same as you addressed. I think the combination of early software issues and the 2024 refresh softened demand for the 23’s. I got an insane deal that was too good to pass up. Looks great in the pure grey color too. Overall a great purchase.

    All your points I echo them. The car has grown on me and I do like it a lot, I have the Pro S AWD and I wish it had a little more range like 280 would have been ideal. but I must say the range and regenerative breaking is awesome! I can't stand the notifications as you said. quite annoying one thing I would have pointed out is every time ya get into the car you have to push OK for the driver. I guess it is great if ya have two drivers then all the settings are for each other, but every time I drive I have to hit OK on the screen to get it into the screen. overall I am pleased with it and I never use the Navigation to navigate , I do use it to show range and how much battery % left to get to chargers , that is nice

    Nice review. I have a '22 Bolt EV (don't travel much) and so many other EV's talk/complain about SOFTWARE updates or cluncky or better then the other guy, etc. And funny the Bolt never gets or got any updates so it's not a talking point.
    Also the simplicity of the car. If there's smoke outside just hit the RECIRC button and you're good. And unlike the Mach-E which will SWITCH back to fresh air, the bolt will stay in recirc until you release it. I have wireless carplay and a wireless charge pad (2LT trim) and the 360 camera view is crystal clear. Hope the '24 works out for you.

    I have a 23’ AWD Pro, it drives great and it’s comfortable. It’s not the best looking EV out there but not the worse, some parts of the car feel cheap but not as cheap as other brands. It’s not my only car as I only bought it just to commute. If it weren’t for the incentives, rebates and free charging I would have not considered the ID.4. If you paid msrp and didn’t qualify for any tax credits, I’m not sure why you would choose this EV over other brands.

  • @TheMuaythaieesti
    @TheMuaythaieesti 10 місяців тому +3

    My biggest issue with my 2023 ID.4 is the manually selection of the user profile every time you get in the car and the time it takes to log in to the profile.
    For example: I get in the car, I have to manually pick the profile (every other cars just automatically logging in to the last profile) and it take a minute or so, if I need to get out and fix my kid on the back and/or load something I have to do it again. Sometimes the android auto stars automatically, sometimes I have to do it manually it takes up to 3 minutes. My aftermarket Toyota's Android Auto puck takes about 20 second and doesn't require me to press anything.

    Great to hear your impressions. I test drove a 2022 and that software system just confounded me. And I'm not a guy who's whole life centres around delving into the infotainment, but that basically killed my interest in the ID4. Now that I've seen a couple videos on the new system, new shifter, new main screen, new much more powerful motors... it looks like it's a real contender.
    Having said that, I just drove the new Model 3 and it's really made a lot of improvements in refinement. Certainly you have to get used to the buttons on the steering wheel replacing the stalks, but if the new Model Y is much more refined like the Model 3, it's also going to be a big competitor.
    I just think VW has over priced the ID4 now here in Canada. It's the same price as a Model Y AWD. And the RWD Model Y is less than the RWD ID4.

  • @spazmorat

    My only complaint about my 2023 ID.4 Pro S AWD is that the 2024 is even better, and I would probably go with the rear wheel drive and wait for NACS to happen. Well, that, and the software really is too slow to start up, but after that it's fine.

    Question: Does your ID.4 have the staggered tire size arrangement or does it have identically sized wheels/tires? I ask because people have concerns about tire wear and not being able to rotate the tires as easily.

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  10 місяців тому +1

      ID.4 comes standard with staggered. We still have that set up! Since it is RWD there appears to be a slight bit more of wear in the back compared to the front (as there should be), but it doesn't appear to be a crazy difference.

    @Born2winalways 10 місяців тому +2

    Excellent assessment provided on the ID 4, which has either received a low rating or little appreciation from other reviewers. particularly those who contrast it with the Skoda Enyaq or Q4 Etron. The Q4 Etron, which has a similar drive to ID4 has received negative ratings from other Bhias users who thought ID 4 was too noisy or too bumpy on the road, which is unfair. Even VW Customer Services, which assists Audi, Skoda, and VW customers, stated that the ID4 is their best-engineered vehicle and more sophisticated than those of its sister firms. Please test the vehicle and you will see for yourself. However its a matter of choice and I have decided to go for ID4 delivering on 19th Feb. The drive beats 90% of EVs in the market and you wont be disappointed. Please note reviewers in their reviews jumping from one vehicle to another in their videos cannot be trusted as they will play bhias subconsciously not realising how ridiculous their comments are made.One reviewer in the Q4 was on a very jumpy road and his head nearly bashing the ceiling of car but did not comment negatively. The same route driven in the ID4 he bickered on with multiple negative comments. Most reviews I will not trust but husband and wife whom both drived the same car and also renewing their vehicle to same model can be trusted.

    Wow, nice review as a wrap up. Really the next one I hope to see is your compare and contrast with your new ID4. I had the opportunity to drive one for a few weeks this past fall and I have to agree with your wife on the steering wheel haptics. Coming from an e-tron I just never mastered the ID.4 haptics. Perhaps with time. I also never road tripped the ID.4 so my fast charging experience was limited but I thought that it hit the downward part of its charging curve early. Again, coming from an e-tron. But I almost liked it better than the Q4 e-tron I had as a loaner. Almost. Great review.

So I would have to charge strictly at home. Looping back around, I know you're looking forward to your 2024 ID.4 but the VW dealership near me is moving locations and trying to clear off their lot, so they've put some pretty good discounts on ID.4s in addition to the tax credit and it's looking like a potentially sweet deal. Since this is only for cars on the lot my only choices would be 2023s. Is it worth making a move or is it smarter in your opinion to wait for a '24 (or '25, depending on when VW starts going with NACS)? Also, their sale incentives make the Pro S and Pro price competitive. In your experience is there anything the Pro S has that you wish your Pro had? Thanks for your input if you have the time.

    • @theaverageev
      @theaverageev  10 місяців тому +1

      I would not wait for native NACS since there will be adapters. It really depends on how you plan to use the vehicle. If you are pretty much just going to cruise and use CarPlay or Android Auto, then save the money and get the 2023. If you want the improved infotainment, faster motor, and battery preconditioning, then wait for the 2024. If you plan on charging at home then battery preconditioning isn't as important, but if you will need to rely on public charging and like to roadtrip a lot, then the battery preconditioning is a must have. There have been no announcement of battery preconditioning coming to 2023s anytime soon, even though the cars have the equipment to do it.
      As for Pro vs Pro S, the moon roof is nice for Pro S, but I never get to enjoy since looking straight up is frowned upon when driving! Haha! The power seats are nice for Pro S and the materials are nice as well compared to the Pro. The 2024 has ventilated seats which is new for the ID.4. The Pro S has massaging seats as well, which are fine! Not the best, but not the worst. The S also has power lift gate which we haven't missed much, but is definitely nice to have!

      @@theaverageev Thanks for the in-depth answer. I'd be mostly commuting and we're looking to install an L2 hookup at home (we do have a regular 110V outlet I could use to top up daily since I'm normally only going about 10 mi a day) and there's a municipal charger in my town. Surprisingly the garage at Philly 30th Street Station doesn't have charging yet and I commute out of there. I'll have to talk to the management about that.
      As far as the Pro vs Pro S it sounds like I could take or leave most of it. I use AA for infotainment so no big deal there and in-car software can always get an update in the future, who knows. Nice review. You mentioned trading in for a 24' model. What do you guys think about the brutal depreciation for the ID.4? I sold my 21' Pro S RWD last summer for $29k, just checked KBB and the trade on it now would be $18k after accounting for the additional miles.... 🤯

      Soul crushing... truly sucks. If I didn't have this channel we would obviously just keep the 2023. We are going to lease the 2024 to avoid this depreciation mess again. Then figure everything out in three years as far as a more permanent car for my wife!

    Good information, but presentation suffers. Consider scrubbing all the uses of ‘like” and “anyways” (use anyway) and maybe the woman could speak up?
