Instead of duplicating the song she chose to redesign it. And instead of redesigning it as a typical Bonnie song she chose to change the time signature. And instead of making it unrecognizable she chose to add in her slide and use background vocals...brilliant
The self absorbed, self proclaimed 'musical experts' here dissing Bonnie don't have a freakin' clue. This lady is an amazing talent and has more class, talent and soul and has forgotten more about music than you critics will ever know.
Yes absolutely , she's a real, talented, touring musician and has lived the life , strong bluesy voice ,great guitar player [slide or acoustic] her live concerts on YT are a testament all that and more.
Thank you Bonnie Rait for 35 year and more of great real music!!! Started listening to Bonnie when I was 16, saw her about 20 times, sang back up for her at Avery Fischer Music hall in NYC, best night of my life - she is one of a kind. Just read that Dave Grohl is a big fan - so happy for her new album's success. I love this woman and her wonderful talent.
i heard thi live at byron bay blues fest ,the sound she had that day was awesome , much fatter biger crunchyer ,great cover one of my faves rafferty songs
Bonnie is timeless. I love her take on this song. I appreciate her boldness and stand on how she feels about love. Many may not respect her openness to other kinds of love but I respect her and also agree with her. Keeping the blues spirit alive to this day. Love ya, Bonnie. Thank you for being such an inspirational artist and strong voice in music and in society.
Only Bonnie could cover this song and keep it so Classy with her amazing feel & voice Just love that she thought to do a Country / Reggae ...version ..
Find it hard to understand those who slag this off. Rafferty's song was great - no one loved it more than I, but anyone with an ear, (soul), for the Blues has to love this on it's own merits. I often think that Blues women like Bonnie really don't get given the respect they're due because they don't fit with the Blues 'crusty old black-man pickin' on his geetar' image... Love her to bits....
Bonnie never fails to deliver. She was magnificent back when she and I were young, and I saw her in Boston in an acoustic show with just Freebo accompanying her, and she is still magnificent now!
I fell in love with Bonnie's voice first time I heard songs. Sight unseen and yet I fell in love with her beautiful red hair ( have a weakness for red heads ). All other concerns posted for effect on this site diminish the expierence of listening to her voice. Love to you all.
When I finally get married I will sing this as my vows, it's never been done before, instead of the traditional promises vows (which no one keeps) I am going to give you my reasons for wanting to share my life with you , it's a dream of mine for the longest.
I’m 31 years and counting and I can still proudly say I’ve kept every single vow 🥰😇. Not gonna lie it not been all roses and sunshine but at the end of every day, regardless of what’s happened through that day…we always say I love you before we go to bed..together. I can honestly say as much as he can anger me I still look at him sleeping and yes sometimes I want to slap him, as I’m sure some days he wants to too, but I still love him til death do us part. He is my heart and soul ❤️💞
I Absolutely love this Woman. She is a Great Hell of a Singer Songwriter, and musician. Super sexy guitar style they Bonnie you really put swagger on tht song.
You know I need your love You've got that hold over me Long as I've got your love You know that I'll never leave When I wanted you to share my life I had no doubt in my mind And it's been you woman Right down the line I know how much I lean on you Only you can see The changes that I've been through Have left a mark on me You've been as constant as a Northern Star The brightest light that shines It's been you woman right down the line I just wanna say this is my way Of tellin' you everything I could never say before Yeah this is my way of tellin' you That every day I'm lovin' you so much more 'Cause you believed in me through my darkest night Put somethin' better inside of me You brought me into the light Threw away all those crazy dreams I put them all behind And it was you woman Right down the line I just wanna say this is my way of tellin' you everything I could never say before Yeah this is my way of tellin' you Everything I could never say before Yeah this is my way of tellin' you That every day I'm lovin' you so much more If I should doubt myself, if I'm losing ground I won't turn to someone else They'd only let me down When I wanted you to share my life I had no doubt in my mind And it's been you woman Right down the line
Gerry Rafferty died awhile ago; so he hasn't 'do anything lately' -unfortunately. [He was also 'Matthews Southern Comfort,' 'The Humblebums', etc..]. Bonnie is still awesome after all these years. She adds more of an edgy 'bluesy' touch.
Gerry For those that don't know it was with Steelers Wheel and recorded the biggest hit "STUCK IN THE MIDDLE WITH YOU" that's his unmistakable vocal. His all time best hit in my opinion is "BAKER STREET followed by "RIGHT DOWN THE LINE" His presence will be missed but his music will live on .
You're the worst kind of fan. Narrow, fascistic, unimaginative. Bonnie Raitt is offering an ALTERNATIVE, DIFFERENT reading of a fine song. Gerry Rafferty would surely. have have appreciated such a fine tribute.
I really don't get the folks who say this isn't a good cover. It's relatively faithful to the original and Bonnie's vocals are warmer than Rafferty's. I suspect some people just have emotional attachments to the original.
Instead of duplicating the song she chose to redesign it. And instead of redesigning it as a typical Bonnie song she chose to change the time signature. And instead of making it unrecognizable she chose to add in her slide and use background vocals...brilliant
Gerry Rafferty would be happy with this . Excellent
The self absorbed, self proclaimed 'musical experts' here dissing Bonnie don't have a freakin' clue. This lady is an amazing talent and has more class, talent and soul and has forgotten more about music than you critics will ever know.
HELL YEAH! GET SOME!
Yes absolutely , she's a real, talented, touring musician and has lived the life , strong bluesy voice ,great guitar player [slide or acoustic] her live concerts on YT are a testament all that and more.
Only she could DARE to cover that song and do it justice. Simply stunning....That City to City album means the world to me.
Agreed
She did Gerry proud , great song ,Bonnie's bluesy voice and guitar ,good band too.
Great version of a timeless track! Bonnie made it her own💯💯
Thank you Bonnie Rait for 35 year and more of great real music!!! They lack an ear for music. The beauty of music includes the different within the familiar, the unexpected within the customary.
i heard thi live at byron bay blues fest ,the sound she had that day was awesome , much fatter biger crunchyer ,great cover one of my faves rafferty songs

Bonnie is timeless. I love her take on this song. I appreciate her boldness and stand on how she feels about love. This is one of my favorite Greg Rafferty songs and I had no clue Bonnie Raitt did a cover of it. WOW sing it Bonnie! You made my day :)
Same, right here!
@@StarKnight1Sunshine agreed!
This cover still blows my mind. So beautiful.
This is an awesome cover. Love the reggae. Just great.
Only Bonnie could cover this song and keep it so Classy with her amazing feel & voice
Just love that she thought to do a Country / Reggae ...version ..
Don't get me wrong I love Bonnie but glad someone see's what I see THX calvin
This is what love is all about! Wow! Thank you Bonnie for showing us that love knows no bounds. God Bless.

It sounded like reggae to me.

Love it and the new album... Glad to see real music and musicians are still around!
you rain down emotions
Her voice has always touched me in ways that bring joy.

This tune is Bonnie.
I sang it like I meant it when I was but a kid and now to hear it from Bonnie is a kiss of Life.
I Absolutely love this Woman. She is a Great Hell of a Singer Songwriter, and musician. Super sexy guitar style they Bonnie you really put swagger on tht song.
@Bonnie Raitt Awesome Ms Bonnie thank you so much for the reply God bless you and be safe. ♥️

subtle & powerful - tht's 'th raitt thing'
Say what!? Love it
Send it, Bonnie! Rafferty would approve.
How come it took me 8 year for me to watch this? Great version for one of Gerry's best hits.
Bonnie stays owning it!
Right down the line means until the end. Forever. Through it all.
Beautiful!

1978... Reborn!
Such a great singer. Damn good guitarist as well
You know I need your love
You've got that hold over me
Long as I've got your love
You know that I'll never leave
When I wanted you to share my life
I had no doubt in my mind
And it's been you woman
Right down the line
I know how much I lean on you
Only you can see
The changes that I've been through
Have left a mark on me
You've been as constant as a Northern Star
The brightest light that shines
It's been you woman right down the line
I just wanna say this is my way
Of tellin' you everything
I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of tellin' you
That every day I'm lovin' you so much more
'Cause you believed in me through my darkest night
Put somethin' better inside of me
You brought me into the light
Threw away all those crazy dreams
I put them all behind
And it was you woman
Right down the line
I just wanna say this is my way of tellin' you everything
I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of tellin' you
Everything I could never say before
Yeah this is my way of tellin' you
That every day I'm lovin' you so much more
If I should doubt myself, if I'm losing ground
I won't turn to someone else
They'd only let me down
When I wanted you to share my life
I had no doubt in my mind
And it's been you woman
Right down the line
Great Job! Awesome!
Holy crap, this is awesome.
Love this new album!
Love how the bass guitarist follows the singer, he clearly feels the music.
❤ U Bonnie !

Perfect song of the past for Raitt to cover (and revive). Echos of Nick of Time
I love this song! amazing
Hello Krista..
soulful retake on an already soulful tune
Absolutely spot on. You cannot improve on perfection.Nice version but the word NEXT comes into my mind.
YEAH!!! Somehow I missed this when it was released - guess what I'm down loading in the next 30 seconds?
Famous Musical Artists playing great Gerry Rafferty songs on VH1 Classic. 😀

I'm a big Gerry Rafferty fan but Bonnie's version is just wonderful.
@Bonnie Raitt Gosh! That's nice! thank you for all your great music!
absolutely wonderful ...she is a rarified class ..only 2 others are Susan Techdisi and sheryl crow
That anyone could dislike this is amazing!
It is a goddamn insult to Gerry Raferty`s jewel. Damn her
what a beautiful soul that's for sure.
You're the worst kind of fan. Narrow, fascistic, unimaginative. Bonnie Raitt is offering an ALTERNATIVE, DIFFERENT reading of a fine song. Gerry Rafferty would surely. have have appreciated such a fine tribute.

Piękny czysty głos.
Świetny aranż.
Pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski 🇵🇱
So pretty. So beautiful....So fucking heartfelt....I'm crying my eyes out....It was YOU....
Nice song, love how all inclusive the video is :)
thanks jerry rafferty - gone too soon
Kinda surprising....no one saying anything good or mentioning the amazing work of Mix engineer: Ryan Freeland
Mastering engineer: Bob Ludwig
Who could hit "dislike" on this? Hard to believe this song is 30 years old. I wasn't really traumatized by the small amount of gayness displayed.
Bonnie deserves a like just for covering this gem.
:D amazing comment! this is so true!
Amazing! :D
I really don't get the folks who say this isn't a good cover. It's relatively faithful to the original and Bonnie's vocals are warmer than Rafferty's. I suspect some people just have emotional attachments to the original.
✌🏽
I love Bonnie Raitt and I love Gerry Rafferty, so I saw this video of her cover and couldn't wait to hear it. Man, she butchered that incredible tune!
who's here for the mixing reference
Only her best friends can call her Boonie.
You must be Bonnie's BFF.
