This is my favorite Love Song, and my partner agreed. We wanted it to be the first dance at our wedding. He passed across the Veil in 2021, but we remain deeply connected. He sends me signs every day, and today, as soon as I woke up, I turned on the news, which I normally don't watch. And for about 2 seconds I heard this song❤ thank you Gerry
Sorry to hear about your loss. Keep him in your heart. Your see each other again. He'll probably be playing this song when you do. God bless you exceedingly.
Im so very sorry for your loss. I lost my soulmate last January & this song reminds me so much of him & the things he’d always say to me. God do i miss him. 💔
Anyone who is in a healthy relationship can totally relate to this song. This song sums up my relationship with my wife. She is my rock, my biggest supporter and my better half. She is always there for me, good or bad, up or down. So lucky to have found her, can't imagine living my life without her. And Gerry Rafferty put all of those sentiments into this beautiful piece of music. Thank you Gerry for summing up for us what we all want to say to our life partners. We couldn't have said it better.
68 years old here, born in Glasgow, lived in Paisley not far from where Gerry Rafferty lived. Grew up in Canada. In the late '70s I became a Rock 'n Roll DJ in cabarets in Western Canada, when disco was hot and almost all DJs were becoming disco beat mixers...I focused on mixing rock and roll with the popular disco dance tunes. Gotta say, Mr. Rafferty got me practically on the first note of every one of his songs. To this day I listen to his music first when I'm taking a break and relaxing. In fact, what brought me here today was this, my favorite song, because I am making a music video for the love of my live and performing this on green screen and inserting me into my own music video version of Right Down The Line as it effing nails my relationship with my wife. We have agreed years ago that I only sing in the shower if she is NOT home. I love to sing, well, I have to use that term loosely. Words come out, just not in any form of pleasing fashion to anyone in the vicinity. Probably why I became a talk show host in radio rather than a lead singer in a rock band. Can't wait to see her face when I spring this on her. She knows this my favorite song because I played it for her when we first met so many years ago, before we were married I said honey this is my song for you. This is still my song for her...
This song undoubtedly says EXACTLY the right words and sentiments of a man still in love. God Bless that man for this song. His Baker Street song was good, but THIS goes right to your heart.
Today hasnt been that special baby;we cooked outside but always an argument between our children and mysels;Sending all my love up to heaven and kisses too I miss you so very much it hurts;Eight years now;I have a pillow which I call Buddy my love that is all i hug these days or will ever till God brings us together again
Yes! When I hear this song I think of my German girlfriend. I still miss her, still love her. Here is what you are not told and warned about when you are in the military, that at some point during your time in service, you WILL get that "dear John" letter or phone call. That is one of the unsated prices you will pay. Elizabeth, thank you for those good times and happy memories. I think of you every time I hear this song.
Absolutely agree. I was 26 and my dear wife was 19 when we married in 1980. Our 44th wedding anniversary is in a few months and we are still on our honeymoon. It's been a magical experience for which I am truly grateful.
This song was in heavy airplay during one of the best summers of my life. Summer of 1978. It always brings back that great set of memories. Of course it's a great song.
Best summer of my life too! It's the year I was born! Although I don't remember it, I'm glad to look back on the excellent music, such as this song, that came out then!
I was an au-pair when this song came out. It brings back so many memories, mostly of confusion and horrible homesickness, but at the same time the best year ever. I did not know that then 😊
When this was released in 1978, 42 years ago was 1936! Think of the evolution of music from '36 to '78 compared to from '78 to 2021. Not sure what it means, but...

My dad shared all of the best classic rock and oldies songs with me as a kid and now I share them with my kids ❤ This music is timeless. Those who grew up during this time are extremely lucky. It was a time of true love and deep connection. You could put on a record and dance or just sit and cuddle. No phones in your hand to distract you from eachother. Just the two of you and the beautiful music playing.
Love this song. My favorite line is in the last verse. "If I doubt myself, if I'm losing ground, I won't turn to someone else, they'd only let me down"!❤
This holds a special place in my heart because it takes me back to 1983, shopping with my parents at Kmart. They ALWAYS had the best tunes playing! I really miss those at the time seemingly insignificant moments. Now they mean everything. I'm 47 now and I'm so thankful for those times with my mom and dad 💗 Love you dad! 10/14/42-11/15/24

When I wanted you to share my life

I just want to say this is my way
Of tellin' you everything
I could never say before
Yeah, this is my way of tellin' you
That every day I'm lovin' you so much more
'Cause you believed in me through my darkest night
Put somethin' better inside of me
You brought me into the light
Threw away all those crazy dreams
I put them all behind
And it was you, woman
Right down the line
I just want to say this is my way
Of tellin' you everything
I could never say before
Yeah, this is my way of tellin' you
That every day I'm lovin' you so much more
If I should doubt myself
If I'm losing ground

1978 or so, great song so many memories of loving my cute lady and loving her so much. Love to be 23 yrs old again, great time to be a young adult.
Let me know when you find a way back to that age! I want a ticket.
