Ahhh~...the screeching sound of cicadas in the morning, I miss the sounds of a Japanese summer The three words that come to mind for me is: creativity, mindful movement, and purpose (I definitely resonate with you on this). This past year has been such a rediscovery with regard to my passions and life path...still trying to hammer out how I define creativity for myself now but excited that in the last few weeks I have been more mindful with my time! Coming from Australia we essentially don't know what an earthquake would feel like. I think I'd be much more anxious than you were!!! I can't imagine what going through something like that would be like 😧
@@michaeltaylor9227 Tbh, in Tokyo small earthquakes are so normal that you get very used to it. But typically they're not drastic to the extent where stuff starts falling or you'd need to do something!
@@oliviaimamura Great to know, especially since my daughter who is travelling there soon was getting anxious about the megaquake warnings recently and everything. Luckily we didn't experience one when we were there last year. But she was getting a little nervous. I think she's back on track now!
Your vlogs always make me think about things that normally don't come to mind, so I appreciate that. I had a tough time coming up with three words, but I guess the ones that define me at this moment in my life are release, uncertainty, and discovery.

@@oliviaimamurait’s humbling to have someone much younger spark this thought process! 😊 I’ve actually thought about this a lot, but never consciously really tried to capture the feeling into words like this. We are definitely going through interesting times in our lives, learning to let go as our kids enter adulthood, wrestling with health as we age, and on top of that I’m trying to learn Japanese in my old age instead of as a kid (when I should have, but fought it).

Hello you and welcome!! I totally feel where you're coming from. Last year was the worst and most difficult year of my life, also went through a depression. I know it can be so so hard. But personally, without having to go though all that, I wouldn't have ever reached the point where I am currently. I had to really deal with mental blocks and traumas that were deep down within me, but by having everything torn down, I was able to build up and to get to a better place than ever before. It might take time but there are good days ahead as long as you take things step by step. Be kind to yourself ❤️

With true respect, I am cautious about saying things can get better. Some people are hurt so badly or have lost so much, that just being is enough. As you say, giving yourself kindness may lead to moments of peace. I like the idea of living each day with an empathetic heart more than looking for growth. I am thankful for you taking a moment to talk to a stranger.
@@kylehogaboam6030 Totally agree that life isn't and shouldn't always be about growth. When I was broken last year, I just needed to take the time to breathe, be still and take one day at a time while trying to enjoy the small things.
I’m watching over elderly parents ❤ so I can’t fully fulfill my life’s purpose right now. But during this time I’m able to practice on my instruments everyday. I’d love to learn to work on my own instruments and maybe work on others as a side gig. I just need to find the money for tools and an experienced technician to show me how to do it properly. My two main goals are to find an experienced music teacher and take a class learning to set up/repair. Thanks for the upload. Be well.
True, sometimes you need to prioritise your relationships over yourself for a period of time. Hope this time will allow you to build a deeper connection with your family! Cool - it can be so tricky, time-consuming and sometimes frustrating to figure out how to use instruments and related tools in a new way! I remember California’s biggest earthquake in the 90s when I was 3 years old. Everything was shaking and falling, and the sound of the emergency siren will never leave my head. I was only 3!! 😖

Kinda random, but I've always wondered if people ever ask you about your tattoos in Tokyo. People always used to say tattoos scare people off in Japan, but I've been noticing a trend of younger Japanese people starting to have tattoos these days.
No not really. In Tokyo tattoos are starting to be pretty normal, even fully Japanese people have them more and more. Haven't really come across any Japanese girls with as massive tattoos as mine tho, which is probably why people just assume I'm a foreigner when my tattoos are visible. Especially in Tokyo you see loads of tourists with tattoos so people are used to it. Outside of Tokyo, when Jpnese people get drunk they might comment on them or ask questions, not in a negative way tho!

Olivia!! I was thinking about you lately, with the earthquake scare and terrible heat wave going on at the moment. Glad you are okay :) What is this mysterious career move? You said too much or too little, girl! But you are absolutely right, you should always try and follow your desires and passion, especially when there is nothing in the way other than yourself! I've always been in Digital Marketing and there was a time when I absolutely hated the very specific domain I had specialised in. But I do enjoy Marketing and the wonderful thing about being a freelancer is that you can easily learn new skills and competences, and choose what you want to do. I'm now specialised in Growth through Paid Media but I keep learning and adding to my knowledge bank continuously, so I can expand my scope or shift towards something else entirely if I want to, as my interests and needs change. That's the ultimate freedom for me as I, like you, need my work to be meaningful, enjoyable and also personally rewarding -- and challenging, too. It's integral to my lifestyle, actually. It allows me to be very free in terms of how I manage my time, where I work from, who I work with, but it also allows me to be a happier person in general because it's quite fulfilling. I have a lot of side hobbies I'm lucky I have time for thanks to this, too, so I feel completely aligned with my choice of career as it is right now. And I wish all the same to you too!
Hi Fany 🫶 So happy to hear that you've been able to build a setup where you feel like your work is rewarding, you have plenty of freedom and you're able to make shifts when you feel like it! It really is something so many people dream of/aim for. Digital marketing has so many options and paths - my digital marketing work varies based on the client but I've been focusing on SEO audits and SEO content. Similar to you I have a lot of freedom, which allows me to vlog and do violin gigs etc so I totally get where you're coming from! In terms of the career path shift, I'm hoping to move more towards making my creative outlets my actual career so that I can have the freedom to put more time and focus into them. So no drastic changes really but more a decision within myself to take content and violin more seriously 😌 I do feel like focusing on creativity allows me to express myself more authentically so would love to lean into that side of me more. Absolutley love your 3 focuses!! Can totally relate! Thanks again for sharing - love hearing more about your life!

Then I moved to Content strategy with a layer of SEO, which I enjoyed a lot better, before going back to Paid where I actually started. I focus more on Social, which is perfect for me because it's both very analytical and very creative (I script and edit the ads). My point in telling you all that about my incredible life, haha, was to point out, if that could help, that it's a career that *can* be rewarding if you find a niche that speaks to you. And it can allow you, as a freelancer, to free time for other things like violin and content creation :) I can only imagine when you are a creator how much your day job might feel... not as fulfilling. A big topic of mine this year was and is to find ways, and time, to pursue more creative and "intellectual" endeavours and be more intentional and serious about them. It's fine to love or enjoy something, but it feels like it's not enough, I have to "dig deeper" or I feel frustrated -- you probably know what I mean. Jeez we have so much in commun I feel, it's so funny I randomly stumbled upon your channel. Happy I did
