Brilliant video and great set of rules. At the end of the day all rules will come down to moving and then using dice to shoot and fight. The trick is to make that process interesting as opposed to just yet another rule set that merely cobbles together a selection of pre-existing rules. Midgard I think does a first class job of this what with the way supports, hills and push-backs are handled; the role of heroes, their actions and deciding whether to burn the fighting or influencing other units; heroic challenges; the superb Reputation mechanic (I hate Panic tests almost as much as I hate WW2 Artillery Drift) along with the very innovative traits and even heroic weapons (mind you I'll draw the line at "Oh look, Achilles has a Light Sabre" 🤣).
Guys, your five videos covering this game system was enough to convince me to pre-order these rules. Looking forward to their release on 18 Nov. There are several 'innovations' that really play well. I especially like how the heroes play. Well done. Really enjoyed watching you both play MHB. Thanks.
A very interesting set of rules: relatively simple mechanics and yet with nuanced decision-making at many points. Very nice! I'll definitely be giving these a serious look when released.
That first single combat between the heroes was straight out of a Bernard Cornwell novel! I'm not usually fond of "champion" fights like this in rules but I really like how it is handled here.
These vids have been great info. Quite pleased that’s I’ve bunged in a pre-order now (just need to get some nice new figures…. Not that one needs an excuse! 😂)
Fab. Addictive too! Can't wait for my copy to pop through the door. However, it would be remiss of me not to say, whenever I hear a wargamer say "these guys" I hear the common expression as used to refer to the mobsters in movies such as "Goodfellas" LOL
I don't think Rich rolled for his slingers on the left flank which could have pushed the support unit there to push back before the combat took place. Could have missed something myself though!
I truly like the lack of cascading panic tests. These so very often negate the tactics and game play of your other units and turns games into random arbitrary tests of pure luck. (Hail Caesar, I'm looking at YOU) The global reduction of reputation is a far more subtle and less binary way of resolving things. Indeed, rolls with binary results should not affect things beyond the local result in the game mechanics in my opinion. The one thing I don't like is the overall Commander's command range being boosted by having joined a unit, this feels counter intuitive to me. I'd rather boost it by half a spear throw when he's on his own and not focused on leading a band personally. But there's a lot to like in this system, I'm very happy with my pre-order of it!
Thanks for your support with your pre order! I’m glad you like the Reputation system - it certainly avoids the wargames dogma of panic tests (and cuts out the time taken to carry them out). As regards Heroes joining Units, the absorption of the Hero into the Unit’s base (and the resulting increase in range of influence) is a simplification to keep the rules easy to learn and remember. You are, of course, welcome to change any of these in your own games.

Seems like a wonderful system with a mix of Lion Rampant, Warmaster and a hint of Sharp Practice! Will order 😊
I like the shield markers for losses - noticeable but not too intrusive, and quicker and easier to make than a bunch of fully modeled casualties

That’s great to hear, thank you for your support!
Awesome vid, now, where did I put those sprues of Uruk hai… damn you lardies!
Nice, looking forward to getting these. Rich likes rolling 1.
Being good at something and liking it are not necessarily connected...
A fun watch and there’s definitely a lot to like about these rules!

Cheers! It’s not over detailed, but if it sounds like Bernard Cornwell, we’re doing something right.

46:50 Rich is so confident he doesn't need to re-roll his ones. :))
Did I miss it or why did the Youths not have to roll a command test after sustaining hits from shooting?

Will there be a film 6,.. ‘The Conclusion’? 😁
@@CheckYourLeaderTV there will indeed. Hopefully Monday.
@ looking forward to watching it from my sickbed as I recover from Influenza A
18:57 I'm still Richie from the block 🤣
Was not expecting a JLo reference in this video. :)
Alas, poor Osric. I knew him. He was a bit of a duffer.
As the lowest level Hero in the Saxon play test list, Osric has been duffed up on several occasions.
