Nothing wrong with being able to slide the rest side-to-side... just not IN/OUT. She had it locked so it could never wind up in the spinning workpiece.
I found a shopsmith they want $700 for it it looks like it's never been used it's the darker colored shop Smith the newer models I think it's 500???? It's got everything including bandsaw attachment. The guy claims he's only used it twice I take it this is a good deal?

I've never seen anyone allow the tool rest to move with your hand as you work. I always thought you needed to tighten everything down.

At what speed is this being done? I have an older model Shopsmith with letters for the speed selection.
What do you do if you're missing the eccentric center on your tailstock?
