11:46 yes. Orb on the movements of the earth. Everyone recommends it to you because they know you'll like it. It's in your favourite catagory of anime - anime that doesn't feel like anime, you know, shows like vinland saga or attack on titan.
Trust me! *ORB* is one of the most well written shows to come out this year, It's a story about Passion, Dedication, Faith & Truth! Even if someone is not into astronomy but still loves watching Complex Historical Dramas like Vinland Saga then they'll love ORB just as much 🛐
5:00 In fairness, Gigguk doesn't usually dwell on great new seasons of great anime for long because people already know they are great and he just confirms that
Yeah his videos are catered more to new anime which is why he glosses over sequels at the beginning. But he'll go in detail for his Top 2024 anime video since I'm sure Re:Zero will be in it
27:50 - Despite Luke being a horror fan, he still hasn't watched "Another", which is a classic horror anime (kinda in the style of "Final Destination"). It's literally almost what he describes at 31:25. I've been recommending it for a long time.
Orb is one of these few rare pieces of media (like Vinland Saga, Vagabond etc) that can actually alter your outlook on life for the better, at least in my opinion. I highly recommend you just watch it, as it's not popular, or should I say "loud" enough to win any pools on your twitch/youtube.
Please watch Orb 👏And Shangri-La Frontier lol And Yakuza Fiancee was just a fun watch, with the toxic romance (in a fictional setting) Horror anime: Blood+, Shiki, Another, Hell Girl, Dark Gathering, Mononoke, Higurashi, Ghost Hunt Perfect Blue(movie) to name a few decent horror anime. Unfortunately, a lot of horror anime just isn't really scary or is just more violent and bloody action than horror really lol And Uzumaki didn't just fail cause the animation quality dropped drastically, it was definitely rushed and they skipped a good bit of the manga, making it confusing as well.
Orb is my favourite show of this season, with the exception of Dandadan. But it's not popular at all, it doesn't have any moments that would go viral in the tiktok, and the studio doesn't promote it in any way either. It's serious, deep, a bit slow, has very little action, but it's very fascinating, especially if you're interested in religion, history or science in general. I would really like to see your reaction to this anime, but knowing how this channel works, it's not possible, it will never be voted for and it won't get many views :(
5:20 Lmao cook him! But fair enough actually holding off and re watching the end of last season to actually understand what’s going on in season 3. Too bad season 1 is actually more helpful and important in that regard 🗿 13:40 Yes watch orb! I stopped around episode 3 but loved it so far it’d give me an excuse to get back into it 23:00 obviously I don’t speak Japanese but I think he’s getting at that they just could’ve used Maid instead of servant? 24:35 wait up now, technically it isn’t an isekai because- 29:00 Unfortunately not only the animation spiraled out of control but the pacing got incredibly messed up episode 1 is great but episode 2-4 are more of a comedy due to how bad everything got
I watched TsumaSho (My wife became an elementary school girl) and Luke, as a family man i think you would 100% without a doubt love the show. As gigguk pointed out, it is a heavy family drama focusing on family bonds, loss, and moving on, and it really does the characters brilliantly. Maybe give a few episodes a chance, or consider it in a stream or something, but unfortunately with a title like that, it will never get voted on, but am certain it is a show for you.
Hello Luke! It's not exactly a horror anime, but a good suggestion for a suspense-mystery story with touches of terror and a lot of supernatural elements would be Summer Time Render. The style is a bit reminiscent of episodes from the Twilight Zone series.
Other than Girls Band Cry, OnK, Makeine and Gushing over magical girls, the best anime of this year have been partially in 2023 or 2025 lol. 5:30 the joke here is that the adapation had so little animation, it was basically just like reading a manga. The last episode was amazing tho ngl. 23:00 Meido = Maid. For some reason they translated it as servant. 28:00 Higurashi and Shiki!
18:00 well, do I have the anime for you, Luke. It’s called The 100 Girlfriends who REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY REALLY Love You and season 2 starts on Jan. 12
I feel like 2024 followed the same tendency as previous years but boosted imo. Supposedly big hits failing harder grabbing my attention and "hidden gems" getting very strong and more unnoticed. My "story 1st, animation last" mindset has surely something to do with it. I'm mostly a fan of shows that know how to build tension and my favourite genres are: Sports, Mystery, Drama and Romance. Top 5 of the year: 1. Yatagarasu: The Raven Does Not Choose Its Master (Spring + Summer) 2. Orb: On the Movements of the Earth (Fall) 3. Jellyfish Can't Swim in the Night (Spring) 4. The Dangers in My Heart Season 2 (Winter) 5. TsumaSho (Fall) Special shout-out to "Tonbo!" my fav sport anime of the year (golf). Barely any viewership, old-looking art style but very steady pacing and consistency, touching/soothing story and teaching sport values (looking right at you Blue Lock...)
@@Ghorda9 Sure thing! I meant that I can watch most type of animation pretty much indifferently. Not that I'm picky about it (art style is another story for me though). Now I find the type of animation you're talking about to be pretty rare (for japanese anime at least. I'm not versed in other types) but maybe that's just me not paying attention.
@@chikarafuru7880 art driven story telling is a little more common than you think but still under used, often used in single instances for impact. Dandadan has a really good example in one episode with a backstory.

Yeah ORB looks very interesting, I'm still waiting for more episodes come out, now it's on 14 from 25. Yakuza Fiance was refreshing, it's not a typical romance, at least the characters look more mature and are not just good. Shout out to the Terminator Maid Roberta from Black lagoon - it's a good pick for more mature anime. And adult cast anime are not usually battle shounens. Shounen is a demographic - male teens. And yes Luke, you watch too many isekai which have already oversaturated the anime landscape... Hope we can get some non shounens.
Luke, can we have a weekly series of you going through these anime in a nutshell reviews? He starts in this format at Spring 2017. Always really funny plus it’d be cool to see you see all the anime, some very good but forgotten about and the terrible. Plus all the memes. Also Gigguk also glosses over sequels quite quickly unless there’s something specific to be said. He tends to focus on new shows. :)
28:03 Thers actually two recent and decent horror (not fully) anime series like Mieruko-chan and specially Dark Gathering which im excitedly waiting for 2nd season of.
18:53 Well, they do exist it's just rare to see. Also, it's usually helped along by some degree of autism that makes social interactions harder to understand. I'm not sure if anyone showed you Haruka clips yet, but her friend Ari straight up told her she liked her when they were younger, Haruka just thought she was joking.
30:30 yeah Nick had the exact same opinion as you before he watched Blue Lock season 2. Maybe you just haven't seen an anime with bad animation that ruins immersion.
What makes recommending horror anime for you hard, is that Japanese Horror is almost always either gory or psychological. So there aren't really anime that fit the traditional western horror flavour.
16:40 he wasnt saying Studio Trigger made Mecha-Ude, rather that you can easily assume the anime is one of their works. He mentioned earlier it was a crowdfunded anime lol
"He literally spoke about Danmachi for like 10 seconds" Yeah because he already made his point about Danmachi S5 before that section... Without you noticing, and it's very on point.
Higurashi is a traditional horror anime, but it's a bit older compared to the newer things you've watched. If you want to try watching it on your own I don't think anyone would mind. It was one of my first favorites when I was a small weeblet.
30:30 luke at this point you will just have to read an horror manga cuz I don't know why every anime adaptation for an horror manga has failed terribly and i know you say that animation doesn't matter but for an horror it is does. Uzimaki ep 1 was unsettling and really well done but from the ep 2 and on wards i felt like i was watching a comedy show 🫥. The animation was so bad that it made unsettling and horrifying scenes from manga look like some comedy 😐.
22:56 He's making fun of the official English translation using "Ms. Servant" instead of "Ms. Maid" because _meido_ is just the Japanese pronunciation of the English word "maid." There's a bit of wordplay going on, too. _Meido_ is also the name of the underworld/purgatory, and the titular character is a former assassin who starts working as a maid, so both definitions apply to her.
Watch ORB: ON THE MOVEMENT OF THE EARTH :) And also Dungeon Meshi, honestly my AOTY 2024 (not counting Frieren). And since you love horror, I highly recommend Dark Gathering! It's a fairly recent anime and it's genuinely scary, good story and concept too. I'd say Dungeon Meshi has some horror elements as well!
Loved the video Luke!!! Gigguk's fall anime in a nutshell is decent but you need to check out Echidnut's fall 2024 anime tierlist video! It's soooo good and his taste in anime aligns with yours too, and when he mentions Danmachi, there's no spoilers (they just mentioned Freya's Butt lmao) also they give each anime their time and talk about it unlike Gigguk's where he kind of passed by them quite quickly. Also, Echidnut's video is reallyyyy funny. Give it a watch pls! Thank you for all the content!!
Too bad it will never get actually voted on with a title like that, im certain Luke, with how he loves his family and is hooked by family stories, would love the show and appreciate it.
I was really into horror anime back in middle school, and for some reason it seems like the idea of horror anime is different from your typical horror.. It’s still has the mystery elements but the only scary thing ( or what they consider scary ) is just killing characters brutally, personally I woudn’t call that a horror cause even shounen anime nowdays are brutal with their kills, the only anime that I’ve seen and felt like a horror was ( Ghost Hunt ) a 2000s anime that NO ONE talks about or seems to remember, I personally enjoyed but seeing that no one ever mentions it maybe I’m the only one?
biggest question is where the hell are her parents. only 2 things I can think of is 1 she straight up ran away from them and they are now they are crying depressed and worried about their missing child that does not plan on coming back. 2 her parents are dead and the same thing happens just with an orphanage. and depending on the orphanage they either don't care care a lot of are in the middle. if it is the first one she just ruined one family to go back to the one she technically isn't a part of anymore. visiting later would have been different but as a 10 year old girl that was a cunt move towards the people who raised her for 10 years.
Horror is definitely a genre that’s missing in anime, especially the more recent shows (like, the last decade). I personally don’t dig the genre that much, and I unfortunately get put off by older anime because of the animation quality (I know I shouldn’t, there’re many great shows I ended up cannot enjoy because of that, I’m just too spoiled by productions nowadays). However, if you are really interested in horror and don’t care that much about the older styles, apparently there were some pretty good horror shows back in the time like Another and Higurashi. There’re probably more, I’m just not well versed, but if you’re interested, you can check those out, and search for the older ones.
There's Higurashi obviously, but another great horror anime is Shiki. Shiki is basically about a doctor in a small village where people start to die from unknown causes. It's really good and I recommend it. There's a lot of good horror mangas but for some reason we don't really get any good anime ones.
Orb is not pretty by any means, but it does have very similar vibes as Dr. Stone, it definitely will suck your attention knowing you love Senku's story :)
My 2nd comment: I love how there are many people recommending DARK GATHERING! Please watch if you're looking for a good horror with a lot of lore and great concept
9:46 I've heard that they were supposed to aired the 24 episodes in one go (one episode by week) but they were behind their schedule with the promised airing date of the show, so they had to cut it into two seasons/cours, because it would be perfect for a week cliffhanger, but not for a season ending cliffhanger. I hope Oshi no Ko doesn't do the same thing and end in the middle of an arc and they do a 24 episodes season.
I was really into the talker show and maou 2099. Both the op and ed were good for both shows. I actually rank the talker show above 2099. I enjoyed the main character's evil and cheeky personality. The guy was ruthless, willing to do whatever it takes to achieve his goals. 2099 was a surprise. It seemed like a slice of life until it wasn't. Then it had a finale. Then it continued on and had a 2nd finale. A weaker one imo but still enjoyable. Hoping for 2nd season for both shows.
There's a tv station called NHK, but in the anime, it's Nihon Hikikomori kyokai (Japanese hikikomor association), a shadowy org that's the big bad in the anime's mc's conspiracy theory. Welcome to the NHK is a wonderful, beautiful show. Back in the day it was considered a must watch anime if you're a weeb.

biggest question is where the hell are her parents. only 2 things I can think of is 1 she straight up ran away from them and they are now they are crying depressed and worried about their missing child that does not plan on coming back.
Shiki is a great horror anime, some complaints people have is that it's a very slow burn, but the last few episodes are really amazing.
Dark Gathering is probably the closest to Horror you're looking for and Mieruko-chan is a good Horror Comedy.
From your description I would almost say "Talentless Nana" might be worth consideration, even though it's "psychological" not "horror".
I hope Luke keeps on reacting to these!
Im just waiting for the day Luke reacts to the Promised Neverland. It'd be so hype if he does so on UA-cam!
There's Higurashi obviously, but another great horror anime is Shiki. Shiki is basically about a doctor in a small village where people start to die from unknown causes. It's really good and I recommend it. There's a lot of good horror mangas but for some reason we don't really get any good anime ones.
Luke do those videos from year 2013 until today.
Orb is not pretty by any means, but it does have very similar vibes as Dr. Stone, it definitely will suck your attention knowing you love Senku's story :)
Mecha-ude is my hider gem from 2024 im recomend the opernig ,ending and anime soo much, is just 13 eps
Anime of the year: Frieren
Most underappreciated: Shangri-la frontier
My 2nd comment: I love how there are many people recommending DARK GATHERING! Please watch if you're looking for a good horror with a lot of lore and great concept
9:46 I've heard that they were supposed to aired the 24 episodes in one go (one episode by week) but they were behind their schedule with the promised airing date of the show, so they had to cut it into two seasons/cours, because it would be perfect for a week cliffhanger, but not for a season ending cliffhanger. I hope Oshi no Ko doesn't do the same thing and end in the middle of an arc and they do a 24 episodes season.
18:49 Underrated, overlooked gem, and the manga is even better, it made me cry so hard (it's not sad but very touching)
I agree. The anime was really great and the best part of the story is in the content that would be adapted by a season 2.
If you want a horror anime, i'd recommend Higurashi
I mean if that’s the horror you want then yeah, higurashi is pretty much it. Also Talentless Nana is pretty good.
Welcome to NHK is about a NEET
PleASE WATCH, Demon Lord 2099/Maou 2099, it's one of the Best Hiddengem hitters
