I love that the pace of instructions is at a faster pace than other vids. Quick enough and w good video to show you what happens. My new favorite golf instruction site.
Lake Conroe Living our pleasure! Glad you found our channel...the 3-putt range is good info...hope the video helps your game and be sure to subscribe...more info to come. 👊
One of my favorite drills is using a measuring tape slightly on the outside line of a straight and level putt. Really easy to set up. I start at 3' then, after holing one there, the next putt is from 4'. Keep increasing the distance in 1' increments until missed putt. Then re-start from 3'. It's easy to track your putting stroke (inside, square, inside) as well as your take-away at various distances. This drill also provides a pressure component as you try to reach your personal best score - mine is 15'. Cheers.
Dave Stockton had the best tip for me. He said "focus on the putt line 10 inches in front of the ball, not the ball". Make sure the ball passes along that close-in line & that the putterhead traces the line as well. You apply this technique once you have established the correct putt line to the hole or pre-determined break point. Keep head still until the ball is out of sight. I seldom three-putt thanks to Dave and expect to make anything inside 6ft. Try it and see if it works for you too.
I love using the 3-6-9 drill that forces you to hit 3 straight putts at 3 feet before moving on to 6 feet and 9 feet and so on. Really gets you dialed into the speed and slope of the green to make more putts. You can also make it even harder and instead of aiming at the cup, you place a tee down on the green and aim to hit it. You'd be surprised how well you start hitting those 5-9 foot putts after just 20 minutes of practice.
The stats per distance really highlight the need to focus on lagging vs trying to make the putts. Also, like that string drill for helping to see the correct line. Could even use it on double, or more, breakers. As long as you keep the stick that's between you and the hole out of the roll line.
A find your way of teaching very helpful,Todd. Particularly chipping. Eighty plus and have had the chipping yips for last two years. Your lessons have really helped. Several Chip and a putt holes today. Putting is average, not great and have particular trouble with determining the speed of long putts. Many thanks for the help.
Great video, good drills..1.understand what the fall line to the cup is, and how to locate it. 2. Putting in fall line is a stright putt. 3. Determine which way the putt will break along the fall line. 4. How much speed do I need to putt to the fall line, so the ball turns down the fall line to the cup.....A. What percent is the slope..Can be calculated from the cup down the fall line, with a 10.5 foot string and a string level that attaches to the string..once you know percentage of sloop, 1* 2* 3*, you get use to seeing it each one, and know, ok, that's a 1 or 2 or 3.....just good to know and practice each one for speed...5. Every green should slope some where to drain...6.Two slopes that come together, one from left, one from right= somewhere is the fall line to a stright putt....Whoops, sorry for carry on so much, but your video are really good...I use 2 Small knitting needles with string, like you do...one one my fall line for stright putts.. one from my ball to the falllineat 90* angle...some where between, the ball breaks toward the cup...Note.. Pay attention to break and fallline around cup, and see how the cup opens up/more space for the ball to go in.....Ok I'm done, Again, great video, good luch with your team.....PS. Information and Practice is fun....Leland....18 Handicapper
Every put, which I am not really close to the hole sort of less than 4 foot, I don't care much about the line, I truly only focus on distance! This helps me to focus on the right issue!!!
some good stuff to work on there thanks. Am a 14 handicap player who is struggling with my putting at the minute and from this video i should stop thinking hole every putt from distance and try get myself down in two from distance thanks again keep up the good work
I like to see how many of the misses I can make shortest to longest. This makes practice have more of a real game feel and gives you some pressure to make the two put. Also you get long and short put practice with the same drill.
Lately I'm 3 putting but I practice a bit more now long putting and getting it nearer to the pin so I can tap in for 2. Trying it tomorrow for competition
its much harder to control distance than it is to aim correctly. theres a great video out there that shows this also. ill take a miss 3 feet right but perfect distance over a putt right at the hole that goes 8 feet past. NOTHING is more frustrating than having a great drive and chip then putting for birdie from 20+feet, only to end up with a bogey cuz you 3 putted. happened to me at least 3 times my last round out and it makes me lose my mind lol
From years of teaching, I've found most people can make a 2-foot putt.So I incorporated that into a putting drill. If the line is read somewhat correct they will make about 25% from the dreaded 25-foot range & the rest are tap-ins. Picking out a spot 2-foot from their ball on that line. It gives them something close to look at, then speed is the only issue. It works!!!
Do you have a video on how to hit un-even lies...specifically my problem is not making good contact on uphill lies...can't get my body to either rotate through (block to right), or I over rotate (spin-out).
I put a yard stick down and rest the ball on the tip of it, then try to pull the ball down the yard stick (no back swing). If I'm rolling it right the ball will roll down the whole yard stick. It's more of a feel drill to help release the putter square so it rolls on the intended line. Makes my short putts have a "feeling" that is repeatable on the course.
A wise man told me to never guess on something you can measure! I measure every putt by the number of steps it is to the hole from my mark! And I practice on the practice green before I play to get a feel on how hard to hit the putt based on how many steps To the hole. The speed vary from day to day so it's important to get a base down so you don't have to adjust the speed as you play!
Jim Heck I fully agree Jim! I shot a good round today and three putted 4 times!!! I remember measuring by the number of steps and sort of abandoned it. I’m definitely going back to that 🤗
I do putt practice just to find the speed of the greens and get and idea how fast they can be I do my normal swing and then count how many steps I hit the ball
Thanks for the advice but watching you line up the putter face to the ball was an eye opener for me. Seems my putter face is a tad out to the toe. Will try moving the putter face in a tad to see what happens when I play next.
I like to practice the clock drill take 5 or 6 balls and set them on 3 ft out around the hole once I'am able to sink all of them I'll try 5 ft out around the hole and then a little further out .This way they all break differently it's a very hard drill
I will try this advice. But I am always pretty good at practice but nightmare on the course. Frequently even missing 3 feet put. This is so frustrating. My average putts is 32 per game. How can I get better?
My issue it seems my putts are on line but are either short or long - so I’ve a smooth putting stroke but seem to come up short - and then when I give it extra I pop it with my right hand and send way past the hole.
I play most of my golf in St Andrews where the greens are flatter, my average is 30 putts, good day 27, bad day 33. But out here at Vila Sol Golf Course Portugal where we are members the greens are very sloopy and I really struggle to beat 33 putts every time I play. So hard to play to to my 7 handicap out here. Any info on reading greens that have a lot of slope. Like your teaching Todd.
Terry Scanlon you are one lucky golfer to play St Andrews on a regular basis. Jealous! We do not have a video on green reading at this time, but that is a great idea! We will be sure to add it got the content list. Be sure to subscribe so you can stay in touch.

Help me out here. Is it proper etiquette to go to a practice green at a public course and start putting tees in the green for the eye line mirror or the stakes for the string? It feels like the course wouldn't be super happy with you sticking things into the green to practice.
Chuck F great question!! Most golf courses will not mind you doing this. They are more worried about golfers standing in the same spot for long periods of time which will kill the grass...great question!
How To Stop Three-Putting: Be A Good Putter. That’s what is being said here. Everyone knows that speed control and reading the break accurately are the keys to good putting. This is Captain Obvious territory. On days when I am “feeling it” I putt well. On days when I’m not, I don’t. Simple as that. I can three putt from 5 feet. I can two-putt from 40 feet. This applies to most amateur players. My best tip: Lay off the coffee before you play golf. ;)

I use the last drill, but I lay the rod at a half putter length behind the hole. Thanks for the Video!
Anis Chabchoub good idea! Thanks for sharing with that group and adding to the conversation...good stuff!
Explain to me a little more about the string drill. I need to make one up that the green keepers are ok with.
Enjoyed the video. Going to try the drills next time I am out working on my short game. Thank you!

My favorite putting drills all come from a book with 150 putting drills. The book is "Make More Putts!"
Good suggestion...need to check it out.

The "elevated line" drill....implemented...thank you.
Jerome...great to hear...yes the elevated line drill is one of the best!
I think establishing that distance control for the 20-25 foot putts is huge! Even if you misread it you'll still be in that 3-4 foot range at worst.
We are in agreement there! Thanks for watching and the comment

So what is the average putts per round for say a handicap of 10?
Gene Seale good question...it can vary but somewhere around 32 would be a good middle of the road...
