This is one of my Top 10 favorite films of all time. The ending never fails to make me feel so many emotions. It's her rebirth and it's nod to life. We start off in water (the amniotic fluid in our mother's womb), when we're born we eventually learn to crawl, then stand, and walk. Taking all of that in coupled with the way its shot and that score...*chef's kiss* It's life-affirming.

Saw it in the cinema in 3D and it blew my mind, struggled not to cry at the end! I was amazed at the end that her character could stand up after being in zero gravity for so long. The reason astronauts exercise so much in space is because of atrophy. This is your muscles literally wasting away because of lack of gravity on the body. You lose muscle and it impacts the bone tissue as well. Astronauts were having difficulty walking when they returned to a gravity environment on Earth. They found after long stays in space necessitated daily exercise programs. They added special treadmills to the space station. What a performance by Sandra. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.

At the end, yes, she was exhausted, but she was laughing because she was finally back in earth's gravity, so it was 'hard' to get up. If you want a fantastic space film that's been restored splendidly, "Apollo 11" documentary from 2018 is a must-see, a fantastic family pick. At only 90 mins, it's perfect. The footage of the public watching the launch at Cape Canaveral is worth it alone, for the Florida fashion in '69.

"And this isn't just her winning against what just happened in space, she's battled her grief---this is her beating that." I love this insight from Amber and it's exactly why I love this movie so much! It just feels rife with meaning; not just basic survival of the body in a horrific circumstance, but also the fight to reclaim her joy and spirit. She sounded like she was in a phase of living death on earth, just numbness day-to-day in that grief. It feels like a triumph and catharsis of rebirth by the end. Just incredible.

Gravity was a popular movie at the Oscars in 2013, winning seven out of 10 nominations for its music, editing, cinematography, visuals, sound AND directing; Alfonso Cuaron, Harry Potter 3's director was the winner of that award and each was absolutely deserving! I was really happy for Alfonso when he won; He also shared the editing award with one other person as well He's won one other Oscar for directing since then
Unfortunately, the academy stopped there since it normally doesn't give scientific movies, real or fictional, Best Picture that honor was given to 12 years a slave instead, which was also a powerful film and deserved all its wins as well

I love watching all your reactions to music and movies! I've been following your journey for a couple years now and as an older Gen-X, the nostalgia I feel seeing you both appreciate what I grew up with is such a fun ride. Two hilarious movies I highly recommend that don't get reacted to on UA-cam often are High Fidelity and Crazy Stupid Love. I hope you find time to watch them somewhere down the line. Keep up the amazing content!!!

I saw this in the theater. The sound design is amazing. They got the physics of sound conduction in space mostly right - you’d only hear (other than radio) through vibration if you were touching the object. It was very cool.

I was lucky enough to watch Gravity in I M A X a few dats after it opened. I went to a mid morning showing. The theater was almost empty, which made the slow rolling opening shot all the more E P I C as the movie played.
The absolute attention to detail of the CGI. Probably one if thee most harrowing astronaut/space disaster films ever made.
    Thee BEST.

0 gravity I cannot imagine what that feels like. The astronauts on Apollo 13 were reading manuals and the engineers in Houston were improvising with whatever they could piece together based on what the astronauts had in the capsule to keep them alive and get them back safely. Harrowing.

This was one of the most realistic space movies I've ever seen
The cinematographer, Emmanuel Lubezki, made you soak every pixel of the screen He gave us the illusion that the film never cut, the movie being made with just one long take He made most of the movies he shot that way and he's won 3 Academy Awards because of that work The other two made where he won the Oscar are Birdman and The Revenant (with Titanic's Leonardo Dicaprio)
Another fun fact: he won all 3 in consecutive years, which is mighty impressive for a cinematographer

I've been a fan of Sandra's since I first saw "Speed", and I've seen her in many movies over the years, some good, some bad, some better not discussed. LOL But this film was a shining moment in her career and she deserved all the accolades as well as the HUGE paycheck, as this was a stellar performance. I would recommend "Gravity" after this, as it's very similar and yet very different, but just as good as this. But while Matt Damon's character was the main protagonist he had an amazing supporting cast to back him up. Gravity was mostly a singular effort with Sandra carrying the weight of the film and she killed it.

Very difficult to say something negative about a movie that won 7 Oscar's but there are great movies like Sound of Music, 12 Years a Slave, Empire of the Sun, Schindler's List, Superman, etc that would give you years of material. Gravity isn't one of the great ones.

The mechanics of modern space travel were not realistic, but the filmmaking was unparalleled. That should be the gauge. I mean The Sound of Music was about a family breaking into song during the Nazi annexation of Austria, but people are still willing to give it a pass.

Other movies she is in that I think you'd love are: While You Were Sleeping (also with Bill Pullman from Spaceballs and Sleepless in Seattle), Speed (also with Keanu Reeves), The Lakehouse (also with Keanu again), Premonition, Hope Floats (with Harry Connick Jr), and The Net (back when the internet was a new thing).

That little Martian doll is a Looney Tunes character, Marvin the Martian. I imagine his appearance is intended to provide a point of contrast between how things work in fiction and how they do in reality.
The ending of this film always brings tears to my eyes and gives me goosebumps.

At one time, all Astronauts were military officers in either the Air Force or Navy. Today, civilians can also become Astronauts although these are still rare. The civilian pay scale goes from $105,000 to $161,000 per year. Military Officers are paid according to their rank and time in service. Most Astronauts are Majors (O-4) or Lieutenant Colonels (O-5) and there is the occasional Colonel (O-6). Assume Officers of these ranks have at least 10 years of service, and not more than 20, so their base pay will range from $97,535 to $152,124 per year. As officers they will also get such things as a housing allowance (BAQ), Subsistence/Rations allowance, hazardous duty pay, flight pay (military astronauts are all pilots), and perhaps a few other miscellaneous stipends. These will usually add an additional 35 to 50 thousand dollars a year based on rank and Home of Record. So, the highest paid Military Astronaut will receive approximately a little over $200,000 per year. Does this make you want to put on that Spacesuit Jay?
