+Ouroboros God dammit, so many people have been telling me that those are some sort of rescue pods, and so I have for the lack of better things to do tried to research 1937 and so era submarines but I am yet to find anything regarding these things having that sort of technology back in the day. I know I'm probably overthinking this and wouldn't be suprised if the game developers just pulled that right out of their asses (taking into account Cougarnby), but so many people have pointed this out that I had to check for sure if these pods are really a thing.

This is probably the fastest-paced point-and-click adventure game I've ever seen.

I love that Driscoll is so nonchalant about his sub taking on water, being attacked by an enemy ship, and his CO dying, that he takes the time to be the most sarcastic ass imaginable.

"Hamsun" was (in the real world) a famous writer with deep deep sympathies for Germany and later on Nazi-Germany. He hated England. He got the nobel price but sent it to Goebbels in an attempt to get to meet Hitler. When Hitler died, Hamsun wrote an obituary praising the dictator as a "great warrior and champion for humanity". So yea.. interesting name to choose. Every Scandinavian get very negative associations when the name "Hamsun" is mentioned.

So this game has fake Norwegians, fake British, and questionable Americans on a submarine. This isn't a horror story, it's the punchline for a 3 Stooges skit. Also we're apparently fighting the Nazi's in '37 because why not?

So this game apparently combines the awkward animation and "acting" of Shadow of the Comet with nazis and mid-90's CGI. It's so beautiful.

Also, that's Swedish, not Norwegian. Really poorly pronounced Swedish, with a spelling error (it's någon, not nägon. Nägon isn't even a word). Getting the right language for your videogame is apparently too much work.

I'm hoping that, at some point, Parker flies in and divekicks underwater and through the submarine to help deal with the monsters. Partially because I want to see what he'd look like with these amazing new graphics.
I typed that before the episode was over and holy shit this game has already topped Shadow of the Comet.

+BugPope it's so bad. I mean the Scandinavian languages are similar enough that you can forgive them for using the wrong one but that pronunciation makes anime engrish sound good.
+wofle39 It means two things: they wanted the Norwegian character to feel more genuine by having him speak Norwegian, but somehow didn't bother to check if they'd gotten the right dictionary (and since this was the mid 90's, I don't think you could just do a quick machine translation online. The actual grammar is also perfectly fine, which just makes it stranger). They also didn't check if nägon was actually a word, even if the "actor" actually did try to pronounce it as ä instead of just a. That's a mistake that could have literally been avoided by using a machine translation or just spent two minutes with a dictionary. I'm actually kinda amazed by how much they managed to fuck that up.

Slamming the door on the captain was probably the best move when you think about it. Look how shit always turns out when a character tries to rescue someone who's been grabbed by a monster in horror games. Either they fail to rescue the dude and wind up flat on their ass holding his severed limbs or get dragged in and die as well. He's just cutting out the bullshit.
You guys are obviously always awesome, but when you get Tie Tuesday on, it adds a huge smile on my face.

SpecShadow Uh okay, Lovecraft actually travelled around a whole lot. There's letters where he describes Quebec City, and people visiting him and being exhausted because he liked to take really long walking tours to show them around. There are likable things about Lovecraft.
But he had SERIOUS issues with race. His friend, Robert E. Howard, who made Conan, once actually asked him to tone it down.

I don't know if I find the bad acting charming or not. There's something very 50s B-movie about it that's kind of endearing.

I really enjoyed this video. Prisoner of Ice looks like one of those games that give good riffing material without being too bad. That said, I wonder if I am the only person who thought that Stanley sounded like Southern Belle Chris from Family Guy. And the fact that invoking Cthulhu to make a monster vanish didn't summon the big C and everyone died, well, this is going to be nice. I wish some major gaming company would make a Cthulhu Mythos RPG or something, something a little more recent than 1995. I'm not talking about an indie game or a romhack either, something that you can showcase at E3 or a gamecon.
Not gonna lie, I'm a little disappointed that this is only gonna be 4 parts.

As an aeroplane nut I tell you guys that plane that was strafing in the prologue is the famous German Junkers Ju-87 Stuka dive bomber which is famous for its banshee like wail caused by sirens called Trumpets of Jericho mounted on the landing gear.
The way that intro went so quickly and you had to know such arbitrary things to get through the puzzle just reeks of Darkseed to me.
Retsupurae is finally back to obscure (for me) games that were before my time. Loving this. Back to the Retsupurae days of Deep Fear, Kings Quest, and Cobra

Infogrames really does deliver with their campy Cthulu inspired adventure games. Shadow of the Comet was one of my favourite series in recent times, and judging from the first episode of this, it already looks a series that could topple it, and maybe be considered one of the better series they have done. A shame it's going to be only 4 episodes though, then again short but great is better than long series which drag out with some funny moments in between, and it does tend to happen with the series' of this kind.

I love that Driscoll sounds like a cross between Cam Clarke and Protoman from that Mega Man cartoon.
Tie: I believe codes are placed in the hands of only the captain AND the second in command - who is already dead at the start of the story. This is why the captain is the only one who knows the codes - the emergency started before he could pass them on to the new Lieutenant.

+TieTuesday It's also standard Navy procedure - if you suspect your box containing an ancient abomination has been compromised, you stick your head in to check before you waste anyone's time. Would have been SO embarrassing if the captain had radioed it in and it had been a false alarm. He would have spent the rest of his career as 'That pussy that phoned it in after one little nick from an explosive charge.'
Someone reviewed Shadow of the Comet and said "I dare you to make less sense than this." And Infogrames said "Challenge accepted."
This game sure knows how to project its enthusiasm.
@13:30 God dammit Stanley, everyone knows the thing to do when you're trapped under a steel beam on a submarine is to use submarine fuel to melt right through the beam. Jet fuel might not be able to melt steel beams, but sub fuel sure can.
