Daniel Bruhl is so underrated. His little nuances in Rush really make his character stand out. Little things like the "uh?" at the end of this exchange. I'd bet that wasn't scripted.

I have met Nikki Lauda in Ibiza by accident. Walking around the coastal path to go fishing I came across a couple of gated rear entrances to some large Villas, one of which apparently belonged to Nikki Lauda's mother in law... he was visiting and I saw him through a gap in the fence and plucked up the courage and shouted... he came to the gate and we talked about F1 and fishing. This Villa was apparently where he stayed after getting severely burnt in the nurburgring crash... this was a while back in the 90s and I was about 14 at the time... I can't remember where exactly it was but it was near the S'argamassa Palace Hotel.

@@kingcobra2858 I work on classic cars, most mechanics are just parts changers. As long as there is a Service Manager to diagnose, a parts guy to grab parts off the shelf, everything works smooth.
BUT the minute something is out of the ordinary, things get weird.
People have too much ego in their thoughts.
This guy bought a Roadster Shop chassis. It was wrong. Not just body mounts, but the rear frame behind the wheels.
Springs are whacked out, they had twisted the coilovers down 2 inches on the right front. and then randomly loosened both sides in rear to level the car.
When I mention it, they say, "it's designed on A COMPUTER.
In response I say "it's not built by robots is it? It has production problems, it's not built to spec"

Sort of like FIAT. Ok Stellantis. Despite having the resources like Pegueot, which bought GM Europe, Chrysler, as well as FIAT, Maserati, and technically Ferrari, all their cars have quality control issues.
They even managed to destroy the Jeep brand since the current generation except for the Wrangler, are based of cars like the FIAt 500 and Alfa Romeo Stelvio. In thr case of Jeep Renegade, same platform as the FIAT 500 line up buily in a factory in Italy. The Jeep version of these vehicles are offered with the Trailhawk off road package to distinguish from their FIAT and Alfa Romeo counterparts. They did the same thing with si called Dodfe Hornet, which was a souped up muscle car in the past, as a cheaper Alfa Romeo Tonale SUV.
It gets worse. In Europe, there is a car called Jeeo Avenger that is designed as a based model SUV as well as a base model electric car. However, it is build in Poland. Again, not a real Jeep. Stellantis is using the Jeep name to market future SUVs around the world. Interesting, it did win Euripean Car of The Year for essentially a base model cat.
Ironically,, the Alfa Romeo is going to market a more expensive version of this same car in the United States called the Milano.

Niki Lauda is an overblown but charismatic fool who played the lackey and adored Ferrari for literally years then, when very clearly given the boot in Japan, he magically changed his opinion.
He was extremely fortunate to beat Prost in 1984 as he was clearly the second-best McLaren driver that year.

The same with Schumacher at Ferrari he understood the engineering. The quality of dialogue between driver and engineer and mechanics was the reason for all those championship wins
I did see them, and Bruce McLaren, Denny Hulme, Erton Senna, and more,
But Lauda was the best sportsman and gentleman, he almost died, but came back, he is awesome,
Maclaren cars back in the seventies were best, without the money Ferrari had,

Mr Ferrari asked him can you make the car faster and Nikki immediately told him how to make it 3 tenths faster. Enzo said it better or your fired. The car went 5 tenths faster in a lap after the changes. No one else had the balls to talk like that to Enzo.
Nicki was an "engineer's driver" (as I like to call them), who didn't just complain, but "feel" their cars in a way they could give useful advice to the mechanics/engineers.
He was up there with Micheal Schumacher and Walter Röhrl in that regard.
