I like this new format where you pick the planes up. Flying a bush plane from SoCal sounds like an adventure. Hmm... I'm a little Lake Amphib crazy looking at your listings.
Plus a lot of planes come here without my help. Owners bring them. I get the fun ones and local ones. We will try to do more of this if we can master the inflight mic issues. It all depends on the intercom that the plane has.
Wow what a great airfield with a butcher shop that is amazing. You guys in Cali are lucky! I liked the 4 square flight review. Nice looking plane. Experimental looking more and more attractive for fun flying
After looking for super cubs and speaking with you about 180/185, I settled on a Kitfox SS7 kit with a 150HP engine. About 9 years before this Rans but, such is life. Happy enough for the moment.
What an outstanding aeroplane. Looks like it does what it says on the tin. Small point, the ferry flight back with all of those unrestrained items in the cargo area.... exposed cables..... I guess some tiedown points and net wouldn't go astray for outback fun.
Loved this. Watch the weight and balance with those steaks! I've driven by Harris Ranch along I-5 in past. But, never stopped it. Great destination! Rans looks good.
My wife and I loved Harris Ranch when we lived up in Northern California while I was stationed at NAS Moffett. We'd rent the Navy Flying Club 172 and fly down for dinner. Thanks for sharing!
I love Harris Ranch. I used to work there in the 90s and then flew in and out of there a few times many years later. It's got a narrow little runway if I remember correctly. That Champ looked very intriguing. I hope you're able to present it.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 We supply the kit with a cargo net. This builder modified the cargo area to extend aft to the next bulkhead, but still could have installed the net.
RANS designed a great airplane! This is one of the earliest completed RANS S-21s with a light empty weight and is for sale at a rock-bottom price. You couldn't build it today for the asking price. Just one correction, the stock wingspan is 28 feet, I think you misspoke and said 38'.
It appears this plane had its wings extended. If the aileron doesn’t go all the way to the wing tip, it most definitely did. I thought I seen that during the video.
@@tangodelta722 Yes, it has 1.5 feet more wing per side. I was wrong in the video about the total length. The extensions are easily removable but why would you? They are like the Wing X extensions on Cessna's.

The Rans S-21 has been causing quite a stir since it was introduced several years ago. All metal with a Titan 0-340 (essentially a Lycoming O-320 clone). You can build it with a Rotax 915iS too. Think of it as a slightly easier to build high-wing competitor to the Vans RV-9.
@@skywagonuniversity5023 There is a Kitplanes magazine series of articles in which someone installed 0-320 on an S-21 on the magazine's website. Everything south of me is Southern California. ha ha ha Thanks though.
Why dont these STOL homebuilts consider reflexing the flaps to increase cruise speed. Did Maule do this once?
I'll take questions I don't have an answer to for $500, Alex.
Maule's did have reflex flaps for speed. They worked and they needed it. This plane is fast without that and with big tires too. (Mark)
The airfoil I choose has a bit of that feature built in and thus not required. In cruise it has a slight negative angle of attack at normal gross.
Thanks Randy.
Cheers for this; obviously the designer considered this. Keep up the excellent work.

Excellent. I make them occasionally too.
If you buy a homebuilt kit in 2024 and it takes you two years to build, what determines the model year?
I suspect the year you bought it
The year is the year that it was bought. So a plane could be a 2006 and first flies in 2011.
