Elvis was singing on stage and a group of girls yelled out, you are the king Elvis. Elvis stopped the band and said, " there is no king but Jesus". That showed that not only was he wise, but he also had humility. Jesus, King of kings and Lord of Lords!

From what I have read about Elvis, a lot of times after his performance he would just hang out and play and sing some more with his buddies just for the sake of playing and singing. He loved music of every style and genre. He had lots of respect for great musicians and singers. He was definitely one of a kind!

I am from Merced , California ... I still Live here .... I was just a few days away from becoming 5 years old when I saw this performance when it first aired on NBC TV in December 1968 , I became an ELvis FAN from that point on , from that TV Special called " ELVIS ".... many years Later after ELvis "passed away" , his TV special " ELVIS " became know as the "COMEBACK SPECIAL " because after looking back , it is obvious that this Show became a Huge Boost to His Career and putting him back on Top , a Revival of ELVIS .........and this Led to him to do Live performances again , after not performing Live for many years because of all the movies he was doing ... after this show , he only had to do two more acting movies and two documentary Live concert films , but started to do concerts between filming his last movies ... then he did two more TV concerts 1973 ALOHA HAWAII and IN CONCERT June 1977 - aired October 1977 , he passed away August 16, 1977 ........he was born January 8, 1935 in Tupelo, Mississippi , moved to Memphis, Tennessee when he was 12 years old .........................he died at his GRACELAND Mansion in MEMPHIS ..........

Elvis was lightning in a bottle. That voice, with those looks, who grew up around soul music to be able to play like he did. Everything came together to create Elvis Presley. That was Elvis in his sweet spot also.

Thank you for enjoying this. Note: Elvis was the first white guy to have black women in his band. He went to go do a concert in Dallas and the promoters said Elvis couldn't bring the black women. He said, if they dont come, I dont come. The promoters finally agreed and Elvis ame and did his thing. Elvis did more to get black music accepted by whites than any other person. Black or white. And he was trashed by alot of whites in powerful circles too in the process. He had big banks doing what he did, especially in those days.

One Night is my favorite song. FYI, when Elvis was through with his last concert for the night, he would take all his band and backup singers to his suite and they would play gospel until 3 or 4 in the morning. Gospel was his favorite music. He tried to join a Christian Singing group when he first started and they told him he wasn't good enough. I bet they regretted that decision.

In 1968,I was in my senior year of high school! We heard that Elvis had gotten engaged!
The news came over the radio while I was at a job fair! All the devastated fans were ( sort of)
reluctantly happy for him! (It was good to see him happy again, after the loss of his beloved mother)That's how much we loved him! Eventually, we welcomed Priscilla into the "family"
especially when he showed his fans that,he had not changed &
    eventhough he now had a
" special someone" in his life , he still loved his fans by giving us his renowned "Comeback Special! "One Night with You" had always been of my favorites
(eventhough I was quite little when Elvis first came on the scene) ! As you can see,his leather suit just didn't quit! We had not seen him, singing like this ,for awhile because of the movies & the army!
So ,seeing him once again, in all his glory ,in a new era of music, reaffirmed ,for fans everywhere
the phenomenon known as Elvis Presley! He flourished after this appearance & just got better &better & better.... Well, you know the rest of the story!
Thanks for reacting to one of my favorite Elvis songs!

We had barely had our color tv very long, but was so glad we did have it. Of course we had seen Elvis in color in the movies, but not tv. I remember watching this special. Nobody knew that Elvis had a panic attack before the performance and almost didn't go on. True story. Don't exactly know who talked him into performing. I heard Michael Jackson also experienced the same thing before Motown 25 in which he gave the performance of a lifetime. Thanks for posting this Modern Renaissance Man. I am so enjoying your channel!

IslandGirl 9152 Just read Steve Binders book, the director and producer of 68’ Comeback Special and he said, “Elvis, do this for me! If you get out there and really can’t think of anything to say or sing, then say hello and goodbye to the audience and come on back...but you’ve got to go out there!” I highly recommend this book for all who love the 68’ Comeback Special. The story of its making made me love and appreciate it all even more.

I always have listened to Elvis my whole life! And I was so Blessed to have always know him during my! I was watching you and watching you Smile and enjoy his music and smile an having fun. Thats what Elvis exactly loved to see the reaction of all of his fans men and women. I think you would really enjoy his gospel music is wonderful. I have ALS and I am struggling I listen to him sing gospel and all of his music just lifts me and gives me strength to push on! I listen to all kinds of music but for some reason touches me. I am sure you have probably seen him sing Amazing Grace, How Great thou Art. Why Me Lord the list just goes on. The man was a great man! Yes he had black times in his life like many of us do. But when Elvis sang Gospel he gave everything he had! You could just see the spirit came over him and for few hours he was singing for the Lord. JD Souther was one of his best friend when They would all meet up after the shows and go to his room and sing gospel music with JD and the Stamps and the Sweet Inspirations Elvis treated them like they were family. One of Elvis Greatest happiest times were bringing, happiness and Joy to everyone he loved and cared for and most of ALL the FANS! He has the voice of an angel. I look forward to see him inside those pearly gates and stroll on the streets of Gold and I am sure their has to great reunion when St Peter opens gate and he steps and let us live in a new body free from ALS and large number of heart patients from cancer are yearning for that opportunity to be called home to be with our sweet dear families that they will be waiting on me. It's going to be much greater than we ever expected! I have been praying so much that I know in all of heart that I am ready whenever it's my time to go and I am at peace! The fear is gone! Pray for me if you have time I will definitely appreciate it! I joined your group. Look forward to viewing your videos and to share in talking about the Lord I needed this. Thank you!

Exactly. Jamming on a front porch.
When Elvis was in 6th grade, the Presleys moved to a part of Tupelo called "Shake Rag." They couldn't live in the residential part, because Jim Crow, so they lived behind a business opposite the Fairgrounds at the edge of Shake Rag. It has been described as a "hovel." A shed, that is, normally used to store equipment and supplies. His father worked in the area on and off since Elvis was 8. At about age 12, Elvis himself worked after school at a nearby truck patch of vegetables owned by an African-American Shake Rag resident named John Allen Cooke. It may or may not have been Cooke who arranged a meeting between another man named Bell, Grandpa Bell as he was known. Bell lived in the Park Hill (another almost all black section of Tupelo) across the tracks from Shake Rag, and it had houses made of brick with indoor plumbing. The Presleys soon rented half a house next door to Grandpa Bell's home and farm. Elvis made friends with 12-year-old Sam Bell and his friends. Unlike the other boys, Elvis still ventured "'cross the tracks" at night, "late" according to a local musician named Bo Clanton. Elvis would sit in with local blues musicians during day, soaking up the blues before he was even a teenager. At night, he'd peak in the windows of local juke joints and Saturday night fish fry's at which children were not allowed. Again watching and hearing blues singing and dancing.
At home, right across from his home on "the Hill," there were traveling tent revivals with all-night gospel sings. Elvis was always there.
And this verifies what you're saying about the sit-down shows. Elvis was into this type of music-making almost his whole life.
This performance of "One Night" may well be the greatest performance of his life.
Originally, in 1957-1959, RCA made him censor the tune ("One Night {of Sin}") by re-writing the lyrics enough to make it even naughtier! At least, he knew that - even if they didn't. 😉 He's now "praying" not "paying" for "One Night (with You)." And the singing is much more rough and raw. According to writer Dave Bartholomew, Elvis rewrote the song himself, but RCA didn't want his name on what they considered barely "cleaned up" smut. He just wanted to finally get it released! The record company was stunned by the song(s), especially the way Elvis originally structured it (ending with "the things I did and I saw made the earth stand still!") LOL
Elvis just adamantly refused to give up on the song. He originally had already changed the verses and chorus around so it ended *without apology.* So, now he found a clever way of tricking RCA, even in the censored version.
In June 1968, dressed in black leather, he sang it at least three times, likely four, mashing up the lyrics of the supposedly "clean" and "dirty" versions each time. At one of the stand-up shows, the microphone mysteriously cut out as he playfully sang the last bit of it after a bit of "Heartbreak Hotel." I'm not saying it was on purpose because they really were just getting warmed up, but when the sound came back on, he's singing "made the earth stand still!"
You have finally hit the vein of gold! (Yet, keep in mind that Elvis considered himself a believing Christian. He just didn't think this song was actually "sin"ful. He was also a rebel in his soul.)

That performance is part of what has become known as 'The '68 Comeback Special'. Elvis had not been in Concert since 1961. When this show hit the TV on December 3, 1968.......I was stunned at the opening song.........couldn't sit down nor take my eyes of of him for at least 10 minutes! Loved every moment of the show......imprinted in my heart & soul forever!

Susan, I was lucky enough to see Elvis live in Concert in St. Louis on June 28, 1973. I was on the 'edge of my seat' from the 'start to finish'! Couldn't take my eyes off of him ...even though I was in the highest, farthest away seats in the Auditorium! One of a KIND! There will never be another ELVIS!

I was a sophomore in High school and this was part of his tv special. I had the sound track album. I was so enamored with him, and still am!! He looked so good in black leather!!

I watched that '68 tv special when it was first broadcast (I was 15) and its the best ever. Arguably that was Elvis at his peak.

Being stuck in that chair is just so hard for Elvis.

You are a great reviewer.I love listening to your reactions. Like Elvis himself you bring the Song to life. One thing with Elvis you Get hundreds of different styles. Everytime you see him it's like a different person.

I think this is the show Elvis did when he had expressed doubt that his audience was still out there. Cool and unique in that "close" setting and authentic Elvis (note his guitar coming unplugged). The whole show is great, as I recall.

This is my third time viewing this video. I do love Elvis, especially his gospel songs, listening to Elvis and watching your reaction is a bonus. To quote Elvis “Thank you, thank you very much.”
