Вставка

- The amazing Ontong Java visited Rat Island in the Tagus estuary!! Such an iconic vessel right on my playground! Edgar sailed by the day before and told me Ontong Java was there and of course I had to go and check it out!! It's not everyday one sees a 75ft Polynesian canoe!!
Grabbed my Goat Island Skiff and sailed to Rat Island.
Hans saw me and shouted "Hey!!! I know you!!" to what I replied "Cool!! ...'cause I know you too!!" 🤣
He immediately invited me aboard for a cup of coffee and... well have a look at the video, an image is worth a thousand words!

Where are you? More videos, please, my friend. Enjoy.
Hi Andreas!
I'm sorry I've been away for a while but I'm trying to get my Ocean Skipper certification and haven't managed to go out sailing or spending 20-30hours editing a video! 😅
It's almost done tho, and I should be back soon!
Boa tarde e parabéns por seu catamarã lindooo!!! Quantos anos de sua construção e que modelo?
Now that's a boat.
Hi Sir, I am from Indonesia or polynesian, I love as always watch you video, we call that UNTUNG JAYA or LUCKY STRIKE in english, i see that boat deck wood is made from "kayu ulin" is no need treat with epoxy or resin, that wood is so heavy too.. thanks for you sharing Sir
Thanks for the info Muhammad!! 😉
Mantap mantap kapal Untung!!! ❤️ Selamat untuk Indonesia!
It's amazing how an individual has so much courage and imagination to pull off a creation like that. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
7+ years ago my wife Christa and I came across Hans Klaar and his beautiful Ontong Java. We met up in La Saints first and then shortly afterwards in Portsmouth Dominica. A year later Hans popped up in Saint Barths where we got sail on Ontong Java and get to know Hans more. A rare and generous rogue. I’m fortune to have had time with one of our times more extraordinary sailors.
Kiaora Bro. Lovely to see tradition Boat building proving the Old ways are still good ways. seven times crossing the Atlantic. well done. Kiaora.
exelent It is a symbol of freedom conratulations from Colombia
Now that's a vessel that sets the blue water boats in an other perspective! Thanks for sharing. It tels a story by just looking at it!!!
You bet! 😁
Oh no! Not the perfect boat I was hoping to see!! ( Joking)
What a wonderful boat, I had warmth running up and down in my body. And also a wonderful video🙂👍 thanks much.
Thank you! 😉
Ontong Java is awesome!
He obviously built that boat to take a large number of crew. It does make you realize how the Polynesians were able to travel so far around the Pacific. Not sure they had conveyor belts back then, but a very typical resourceful African solution.
Hi David!
Indeed a very clever usage of otherwise spent conveyor belts! 😉
They probably just used lots of tree sap or some processed sap with rope.....
Trying to imagine what stories that Hans and that boat could tell. Amazing.
A LOT!! We met again upriver and spent a few hours drinking a few and chatting!
Great guy!
Filming a series about this! Stay tuned :)
@@FlorenceRyan can’t wait. Thnx bro
Nice one Florence! Don't let him make you scrub the deck too often!! 😁
Just posted the first episode :)
Stunning, so glad you got to film it
Wow fantastic! The Ontong Java just shouts adventure...thank you for sharing this.
Glad you liked it Spencer!
Hans is someone I would consider a very rich man
Indeed....as is anyone who can have control of their time and live the way they chose! 😉
Really fantastic and beautiful Polynesian double canoe! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks you Robert!
On UA-cam, you can find where Hans Klaar is young, and there is more paint on Ontong
That thing is huge!
Well done Hans.
dude has a library in his Ama!
I have seen it in panama, we are sailer too, but our boat was a plastic 30' catamaran.
This is an awesome boat, so happy to see it up close.
Wow! Fantastic vessel, greetings from California.
Hi Tim!! 😉
Amazing Vid man!!! just perfect, sailing is in your blood..... Keep Shunting Teo, Balkan Shipyards
Thanks for your support! 😉
Inspiring 👍🏻✌🏻🇨🇦
I had to watch it again, and I found some articles online about Hans and read those, he is a legend👍👍🙂🇹🇷
He sure is! He does a lot more than just talk the talk!! 💪
An amazing boat! And, of course, a little show off sailing by the skipper on Forager!
Hey Dennis! Thanks for your support! 😉

amazing video thanks again Téo
Glad you enjoyed it Tissy!😉
Cool boat! Thanks for sharing.
So a Dutchman made a Polynesian sailing canoe in the Gambia and sails the Atlantic under a British flag? Awesome looking boat. I wonder how many crew he has to sail the normally.
Well at the moment he is sailing solo, but I know he picks up crew for the Atlantic crossing.
@@TheBoatRambler Must be a well set up boat to be that big and sailable solo.
@@FlorenceRyan And why not? The boat is big enough.
What an incredible boat, in and out 😯
Indeed!! And she has a skipper to match her!!
Best view/tour i’ve been to see of the Ontang Java. One of my favorites gracing the seas. Thanks for sharing!
Glad you enjoyed it T C!
Thanks Rambler - much enjoyed
Very welcome!! 😉
Eyyy Hans ya eres famoso! Good luck
Amazing, we can see marks of hand tools in many timbers, very old fashioned way.
Absolutely! 😎
I like it too, I've seen other videos. Your wooden skiff is gorgeous also.
Thank you very much Mark!
What an amazing boat! So beautiful. Thanks for sharing this with us.
Glad you enjoyed it! 😉
Omg s beautiful
So many questions... No engine? No holding tank or head? How often do the spars break? Can he reef? How is that untreated deck watertight?
Hello MrChyort!
It has a 40 bhp outboard on the main hull, I didn't see any holding tank neither did I see any reef lines.
Both hulls are completely water tight before they are lashed to joists which the deck is then in turn also lashed to.
Hope this helps 😉
Nice video..I meet the Captain hunt. He came and hang out im my village in fiji..intresting Guy..
Wow I'd love to go to Fiji!
@@FlorenceRyan better on sail boats to go fiji..you can see more .outre islands Rather stick in the main island
What a wonderful boat! I enjoyed trying to read the titles of the books, I wish I knew them all. The funniest was sailing for Dummies. I don't think he is a dummy on sailing after 5 transAtlantics.
His boat looks like something a movie would spend a million dollars on trying to look interesting. I hope you do more on his boat and his story too! Thumbs up!
Thanks Rob!
I will try to meet him upriver...fingers crossed! 😉
Waterworld!
Very cool
I have watched your video many times and am obsessed with ontong Java so thankyou
I have a question about the standing rigging for the mast is steel or rope ?
Hi,
I'm afraid I can't remember that detail! 😶
Yeah that was pretty awesome boat. Hope you get a chance to film it while it's underway.. wonder how fast you can move a 70 ft boat.
Hi Nolan!
I think Hans mentioned 17kt as max hull speed...
There is a video on YT of Ontong Java leaving Azores... 😉

Hi Teo that’s so cool I really liked the giant canoe from Gene we were going to go sailing last weekend but the weather was still yucky . I hope you get to sail with ontong Java next week it’s such a cool boat
Hi!!
I will try to get to him upriver some time this week 😉
Best ever
espectacular Teo :) por fora nao imaginamos como é belíssimo por dentro top top
É completamente fora do normal!!😁
Ahahah, you're a pirate now? Raiding other's ships and such! Awesome boat and video as usual!
Thanks dude! Ahrrrr!
Longe da "rat race".... gosto.
Would love to know the history of the boat. Who when where she was built
Great video. how are you able to get the effect where the camera is floating in front of the boat?
Hi,
I use a 360 camera, it films just over 180 degrees on each lens so it can then remove the stick in software. 😉
Sailing for Dummies on the table at 6:55. 😀
Great book to have! And he takes a few inexperienced crew sometimes too... 😉
Hi there great video ,what a boat.
Did he tell you that material is this black belt at the joints?thank you
Hi he said those were strips cut by hand (with a knife) from a rubber conveyor belt used to transport some sort of rocks/mineral in Gambia.
Thank you very much
@@TheBoatRambler do you where he is sailing at the moment ,or if he is coming to Greece?
I don't know, last I heard he was going down and then across the pond again! 😉
Hello, please tell me about the Otongo Java, it have a toilet seat inside?
From what I understood it's a case of "buck it and chuck it" 😅
she's way bigger than I thought she would be
It's really impressive!! 😉
If one hull is smaller than the other does that make it a proa?
Hi!
I'm not sure what defines a "Proa" maybe more than just the hulls? maybe the rig too?
Do more laser videos
This is fucking lovely
Hi there...
I would like to get in touch with Hans.Do you hzve an e-mail?
Thank you
Hans boat 🤩 (James Wharrham designe) ua-cam.com/video/ANvIGZpJKvI/v-deo.html
Why isn’t the wood being protected? Seems it would help in maintaining the boat
Sea Water is the BEST for wood
