I own that one, and it's my favorite fire piston. It's a bit big, but it makes an ember ALWAYS. And it's so airtight that I kept it compressed with two strong rubberbands for 3 months, and it still pumped out of the cylinder!!!
Edit: 11 years later, owning 5 fire pistons, still my favorite, still airtight on the same original seal, still lightning embers on the first stroke, still charring cotton, still using like no lube at all or close to it. I think it has an unintended feature that makes it even better. Halfway along the cylinder, there is a small change in bore diameter (smaller), so by the time pressure starts to build up and may turn the side of the seal, boom, it gets extra tight. There is a noticeable step there. I thought it would ruin the seal over time but...there it is Nice to see this video again Cheers
I discovered that you can charr a small piece of toilet paper or uncharred cotton by simply putting it on the tindercup and operating the firepiston REALLY hard (against a surface, with both hands). after 2 or 3 pumps (opening it each time to let new oxygen inside the cilinder) you eventually get a lightning ember out of an uncharred piece of paper or cotton! I'll post a video ASAP... I wonder if the Pocket one will do that too...
That new fire piston looks great. I like to the idea of storing you tinder inside it. The hidden ferrocium rod is a great idea.
