Instead of paint, I have sanded and seasoned a wood stove with vegetable oil. It is easy to maintain if you plan to cook on that stove. water heater? smoke stack oven, gravel barrel drain, if available run a hose to a faucet
That chicken looked tasty. The other suggestions sound awesome. I'm a bit of a mush brain this morning, so the only thing I can think of: A woven 'shutter' like the hazel hurdles from the round house. Put them either inside the windows for privacy, or just for show outside. Absolutely for asthetic reasons, and nothing practical... like I said, mush brain this morning.
I knew it, I said what’s the bet 😂 We gotta get you onto that horse. Palletwood table and other furniture? Wish I could travel, the 27th would be a real blast 👍🏻👍🏻
I have watched right about I'll say half of your off the grid videos and I always fall in Love with everyone of you're shelter's that I have seen you make ok. 💯💞💖💞
Loving this build - low-cost housing always looms large in my brain. How about using one of the windows for a skylight, since you haven't got the thatch up yet? It would really help with making the interior lighter and also save you some thatch, which i know will probably be a big part of your expense on this build. Keep up the good work, and give Amber a squish for me!
Hi Dustin. Great progress on the build!! It is looking really good!! 👍 Looking forward to seeing what direction you take. Love the videos!!! Hope you have an awesome week!!!!D
You HAVE to ride a horse. It is one of the most sublime experiences a human can ever have! Once you straddle a good horse and relax, your body moves naturally with the horses movements, and you are suddenly gliding above the world in concert with a 1,000 + lb partner! Enjoy! 🐴 A thought: talk to local thatchers and see if they could see their way clear to saving the overage from their jobs and donate it to you. They always have ordered more than they need, and when they break open a bundle it becomes a headache to wrangle and manage. Writing it off as charitable donations would be much easier for them… especially if you go to the job sites and retrieve the straw yourself. Added incentive for the thatcher is the publicity and good will that comes through your videos!!! It can’t hurt to ask around. Worst that can happen is they all say “No.” Good luck & Godspeed!
The last time I was astride a professional quarterhorse (many years ago) was a disaster. My primary tip is to lengthen/shorten the stirrup leathers to suit you.
very cool, its mosty just me, I have been building a fort/shed whatever you want to call it, the spot has been there as a for for a long time but more recently I got a lot of pallets and have properly been building walls, its two of them staked for the wall with the boards removed from one side and put on the over (its a lot of work) and them lift the segment in to place, I even got a 17 foot one that went in to the ceiling, it still doesn't have a roof yet! its also fun when I get a bored that I cant put a screw through it so hard!
Glad to see you back doing videos again. The build is going smoothly hopefully. Have you tried to attempt to have a ride on one of the horses as of yet?
Mate I would make sure I had a small air compressor and a nail punch just cos I know how bad pallets can be to get apart fair play to you mate it’s looking good keep up the good work 😊
If you find that Ryobi batteries are a bit too pricey and unreliable you can get an adapter that allows dewalt or dewalt clones to power the ryobi tool, this is what I do. I also find Waitley dewalt clone batteries good value and reliable.
it's funny you should ask for volunteers. I was thinking about coming by, say about lunch time . . . . 😀 unfortunately, I am on the wrong side of "the pond".
@@BUSHCRAFTTOOLS in all fairness the world is so crazy nowadays, with his vast military knowledge and wisdom on law, that could potentially be a great idea for the UK in general! :)
Get I remember that few months ago your round house and viking house was destroyed, and you got alot of wood, so after this project will you go back in the woodland to use that wood and main that round house and viking house?
The owner of the property probably wouldn't like it if you made a ground well or an outhouse nearby, but both would be good. Then again, given this looks like a ranch that you're building on the bathroom situation and access to water might already be sorted.
I wouldn't do carpeting I would do old Oriental rugs wool rugs that are being thrown away will be your best bet you overlap them trust me they are warm because they're made out of wool they trapped the heat very well that's why you see them in Middle Eastern houses and on the walls because they trapped the heat in in the winter time. so if you can find some old ones that are being thrown away they don't have to be perfect as long as they're in one piece they can be worn down in areas as long as they're in one piece The will work fine Even if you get a bunch of them for like maybe couple hundred bucks it's worth it
@@BUSHCRAFTTOOLS He must just love America then haha, fair enough. I was wondering if he was a homesick yank! Really interesting video series btw, looking forward to some more of these. Pallet garden furniture would be cool too like chairs and tables and planter boxes or whatever.

I’m not sure which part of your videos I enjoy more…the building or the cooking! Oh and always Amber of course. ❤🌲🐿️🍄

Pallet Wood furniture would be interesting to see. Ride em cowboy!! 😊😊
Great idea!!
Great job on the floor, it looks amazing. Love watching you cook over an open flame, yum.
Give the horse a try, it’s fun.
Catch ya next video. 😊
Thank you! Will do!
Pallets are made of larch, larch is 3 times as strong as pine and is used in Japan to build houses 👍 I find it really fun to work with too 👍
Biggest benefit of larch vs. pine is that it doesn't push out sap like pine. But certainly it's sturdy as well!
@@Finwolven it also doesn't rot easily and requires little to no preparation before painting 👍
Horse. 😁👍🏼😁👍🏼
Cowboy up and ride the Horse!! 😊

Justin, will you be sealing or treating the flooring? Why or why not, and if so, what will you use?
Thanks so much for doing this series--I really am enjoying it!

What about a vapor layer or insulation under the floor?
roughneck pallet buster would probably be a decent tool for seperating the amount of pallets you done £30ish

That's actually a good idea. Wool is a great insulator wet or dry (though it will rot if conditions are too damp).
