I'm 54 and my wife and I are VERY worried about our future, gas and food prices rising daily. We have had our savings dwindle with the cost of living into the stratosphere, and we are finding it impossible to replace them. We can get by, but can't seem to get ahead. My condolences to anyone retiring in this crisis, 30 years nonstop just for a crooked system to take all you worked for.

$50k on a $400,000 home?! Hell, $50k on a $300,000 home is stretching it. Idk if you’ve looked at prices and interest rates but purchase budget for a $50k is much, much lower these days if you aren’t trying to be shelling out nearly half (or more) of your monthly income. The budget is probably low $200k and that’s only if you have a nice down payment, and nowadays, $200k isn’t getting anything new or nice.

If you want to live in Duluth, Alpharetta, Sandy Springs, Marietta or Kennesaw, then 50K would cut it, provided if you're getting an apartment. You can’t live in Sandy Springs or Alpharetta for 50k. Rent is $2000 or higher. A little lower in some communities but not really. Some of the newer apartments are $3000 and $4000 a month, which is insane! I’d say minimum $75k to $150k+ since you need to make 3 times the rent and you still gotta be able to pay bills and live. I paid $800 for rent in 2007 and that was on a higher scale at that time. Rent has gone up 3-5 times that amount. If you make less, you will definitely require a roommate.

It's what has significantly contributed to the scam culture. "I got a Benz...I'm rockin' this, I'm rockin' that, I just bought this...I just bought that." It's unfortunate that people are being priced out of major cities. It's happening here in Phoenix as well. Also unfortunate that "Chasing the Bag" has even become a necessary means of survival. Now, not only does a person have to work a day job, but they have to push beyond fatigue to work 2nd, even 3rd jobs sometimes, or do all kinds of side hustles just to afford the basics. This speaks to a much larger problem that 99% of black Atlantians miss.
Both the democrats and republicans want that city gentrified and become non majority black, if you look at the "type" of companies that have moved into Atlanta over the last 20 years they are primarily STEM.... The individuals that work (get hired) in those areas are typically Asian's, Arabs and continental Africans.
With the infux/influence of so many people due to those jobs, the realtors, politicians and businesses are going to push prices beyond the reach of black Americans in that city.
Your black mayor's and city council members all know this, however they have been taking bags to allow this to happen.
You are being gentrified, In the next 5 years it will be too late and you will see an Atlanta start having mayors,, Council members, police chiefs, you name it, that are no longer black..... Get ready for the ATL with "POC".
Don't believe me, ask any black folks in LA/ San Diego and Oakland what happened to what used to be known as "black" LA.

I totally get what you are saying. When I retired, I moved out of the city. I live in the mountains, not very convenient but much fewer people. I find that a natural environment and quiet nights really feeds my soul. I'm into making music, taking care of my home and gardens, enjoying the outdoors. I did the corporate thing during my working life and I was glad to retire. I've never been happier. My husband has always been an outdoors man so he loves the mountains too.
