InspireNewGeneration why can't he go back for a visit? Not like he is an illegal immigrant. What are they going to do, put him in jail for emigrating? I really don't know and am not trying to be wise, please educate me.
My parents were born and raised in Vietnam for about 20 years, and moved to the Philippines, then to Washington, and then to Nevada where we still live now. They were very poor, and would tell me stories of life in Vietnam. Coming from your point of view and your perspective of the culture was refreshing since I can relate (I eat Vietnamese food though, and I speak the language) Vietnam is truly beautiful, and you’ve shown me everything from a non-native point of view. Thanks bruthah.
Judah Sebastian - (Love your name). Yes. Hope something is underway to clean up the Mekong River though - the lifeblood of the region. Makes you wonder just how healthy the seafood actually is. Eighty percent of large fish faces extinction there. I guess pollution & overfishing affects it. Go now if you can. The population is growing.
Judah Sebastian love it their in 1970-1973 And yes the people are great only thing was some of them were shooting at us on the river then. Was there last summer and loved it.
I love how you capture the bustle of life in this video. The people, their faces and the areas they live in. This particular one hit home because I went back to Vietnam a year ago and it was my first time in 27 years and I too went on a boat ride to these floating markets. I relished every moment of it. I was 2 when I left my home country. It was very emotional for me going back to a place I should've known about but clearly didn't. I'm glad someone who is not native, like you, can truly enjoy what it means to visit a different country and get really into the roots of what makes it tick. Thank you for this Mike, this is why I subscribed to you. Cheers friend. Also, your boat captain kinda resembles my uncle and he loves to sing too. xP
As an American born Vietnamese and only visited the motherland twice in my life, thank you for these videos so I can learn more about my family's country and its food. I hope to return in the future and try this!
The intro music is my favorite. It is called Beo dat may troi, which in English literally means "drifting water hyacinth, floating clouds". The song is a traditional Vietnamese song played by the unique instrument of Vietnamese culture: 'dan bau'. I mean, I highly appreciate that he illustrated every aspect of Vietnamese culture interestingly and exactly in this video, namely: our music, cuisine, lifestyle and costume. Thank you very much Mike!
gorilla glue - The more I watch, the more I see pan-Asian culture as the most fascinating for food, crafting arts, traditional dance and painting. If we add pure Buddhism and hopefully, one day diligent land guardianship, you have the ingredients for utopia. Fingers crossed.
This was a really really beautiful video. From your interactions with the locals, to the stunning imagery of every day life in Vietnam, I was smiling the whole time. thank you for making this and thank you for being so humble and kind to everyone you interact with!
Great video! Everyone and everything is so colourful. I also love that everyone you see has a smile on their face. All the food looks so delish, I want to eat it all! I love the noodle hammocks. They are really little works of art. And, the lady making the crowns and the animals from the leaves is also amazing. Thank you so much for sharing all of that, and so much more with us. Hopefully, I will be able to experience it first hand, some day. Keep up the great work! Can't wait to see your next video!
Mike this whole Vietnam series is so awesome, I thought this was the best series you have ever done, it's very obvious that you had a blast going there.
Mike, I absolutely love your Vietnam food series. They’re all amazing and really make me wanna visit Vietnam soon. I hope this isn’t the last one and there’s a few more Vietnam left coming. Btw love the background music too.
I got a little choked up at 6:53 - a little glimpse into the life of a cute little family that I’ll never meet, but I love them just from that little glimpse. 💗💗
This video was so beautiful, from the people, river, boats, culture, activities and scenery. This experience makes life worthwhile. Thank you for showing us all this.
Oh my god, Mike, I love you so much. You are literally the greatest. This video was AMAZING- I teared up when you were showing us the river on the way to the rice hammock restaurant. And when you called the noodle soup lady "Auntie" was so endearing :) This trip to Vietnam has been my absolute favorite of yours to watch, and I've watched almost every trip you've taken. Every time I watch one of your videos my day automatically gets better. Your content is so incredible. Thank you so so much for all that you do

Thank you so much for this video - I love that you captured the raw beauty of Vietnam that tourists fails to see and neglect . I was born and raised in Vietnam and after 13 years of growing up in America, I’ve sadly lost my roots with my native land. I’ve become so accustomed to the luxury of industrialized America that I failed to remember the natural beauty of Vietnam. Thank you so much for reminding me of the beautiful, hardworking country I was orginally raised in.
These people are so focused on making a living but at the same time they seem so happy. This is one of my favorite videos you've done. I'd LOVE to see more like this one. Gorgeous! I hope to visit Busan South Korea next year. My niece is there. I know it will spoil me. I will want to visit many more Asian countries. I subscribed to yoh fairly recently so I am still watching all your videos. They make me so hungry! I have to admit, I have a HUGE platonic crush on you!!
amazing. you made me want to schedule another stop on my way home. Beautiful. The woven rice - I assume it's cooked rice ground at the top of the tube and fed thru a toothed tip at the bottom? Perfect video. Thanks for your hard work and your teams outstanding editing.
im glad you picked actual traditional vietnamese music in your intro and not just stereotypical "asian" or "oriental" sounding music. you keeping it real g out there mikey

Your videos make us viewers feel like they are right there with you experiencing the beautiful scenery! Makes me miss my home country very much (in a good way haha). Hope we all will get to experience Vietnam like you did one day. Your channel was actually what inspired me to start my own YT channel, hoping that I can spread a little piece of Vietnamese culture in the U.S. Thanks for all your hard work!❤️
A great travel video. I loved going on the river with your crew. This is why you are my favorite person to watch on any channel, UA-cam or cable. Thanks
i love the filming in this video, there's something different about it and i love it! there's alot more than just food, it feels like i'm on the trip with you. i hope you film like this more often!
Blah N Nothing condescending about the truth and comparison of the US and Vietnam. Regardless no matter how I phrase my comment so you won't get butt hurt, you can't change the fact that nearly everyone in America is privileged, give or take.
Nathan Nguyen very true; am Viet, and while the culture is beautiful, and all of the greens and herbs give me such joy... it’s horrible when you see a little boy without legs scooting around on a wooden board with wheels begging for money. The people either ignored him, or they whispered to their children that that’s what happens if you stray too far from your parents; that you’ll be captured and your legs will be chopped off, then be forced to beg for your life..
Love this video whoever in the team was involved in producing this you did an amazing job... Ps my daughter started singing sponge bob square pants "lives in a pineapple under the Sea" and now wants to know is that where you live mikey? Lol
Amazing! Love all your videos and how upbeat and positive you are in showing us all the details! You are doing all the things I would just love to do and makes me feel like I'm there with all the beautiful snippets that you film!
You floated right past my uncle's house. Haven't been back in 10 years. Brings back memories. Thanks.
thedarkemissary Oh wow, really?? That is so cool!
thedarkemissary that is so awesome! Hope someday you can make the trip back for a visit!
U r kidding me right?
InspireNewGeneration why can't he go back for a visit? Not like he is an illegal immigrant. What are they going to do, put him in jail for emigrating? I really don't know and am not trying to be wise, please educate me.
? that was not the direction Inspire was aiming for. He is surprised that it actually happened and not what you are saying.
Mike and banh mi lady, a platonic love story. Soon on theaters.
:)
Still a better love story than twilight
Still better then Twilight
And 2 years later...its still better than Twilight.
Legend says on quiet nights you can still hear his plaintive cries across the water.
You must be the first youtuber who actually use the right music for a video about Vietnam. Thank you for all the efforts!!!
that music is so good. gets you emotional, even if you're a complete foreigner
🤣
Can anyone please lead me in the right direction to the opening music.. 🙏
"Sea monsters have nothing on Asians. We eat 'em all" Best line by Mike Chen ever 😂😂
tell that to the Japanese who died fighting Godzilla (yes, i know its only a movie)
if you can't beat em, EAT EM!
- Mike Chen probably

Totally agree hahahaha
4 legs, only no to chair or desk. 2 legs, only no to mom and dad.

This is literally one of the most beautiful videos you have done, could you showcase more of these please. Thank you.
Tony Sky I agree!
I agree..Little bit of vlog mixed in with the food, feels better then consuming both separately on ur 2 channels, just imo though..
I agree as well! So much great images in this video. Absolutely makes me want to go there!
It is very good isn't it? Perfect in the morning
Seeing all the grandmothers smiling warms my heart.

How do I find the original song? From the USA and don't hear that here lol I love traditional Vietnamese music
appreciate the music, but the origin of it would be pretty far away from the Mekong Delta. Maybe I'm just nitpicking
Besides, "QUAN HỌ BẮC NINH folk songs" were nscribed in 2009 on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO.
My stepmom is Vietnamese and she cuts pineapple that way. It's so pretty, I love it.

I'm from future and yeah he still didn't found her
By far the coolest video of Vietnam I’ve seen on You Tube. The music and videography was amazing . Really shows the rich culture of the country.

Vegans are definitely welcome to the Mekong delta. Fish, shrimp, and all types of seafood are very common in the area. Vegan foods can be commonly found in numerous restaurants. You’ll love our vegan foods because they are even tastier than meat dishes.
If you go stay in a monastery they make some amazing vegetarian food. They do incredible things with tofu. Vietnam has lots of good vegetarian food (I tend not to eat meat travelling to avoid getting sick as unless you know a local it’s hard to know where/what to eat).

Nothing like seeing the homeland of Vietnam to truly understand how privileged we all are
Blah N Nothing condescending about the truth and comparison of the US and Vietnam. Regardless no matter how I phrase my comment so you won't get butt hurt, you can't change the fact that nearly everyone in America is privileged, give or take.
