Man who jumped into canal of water & saved people trapped in car is honored for Feel Good Friday

EastIdahoNews.com and Ashley in Idaho Falls and Pocatello are partnering to honor people in our community for Feel Good Friday. Every week, we surprise someone deserving of special recognition.
We recently received an email about a man who rushed to the rescue when he spotted a car upside down in a canal by his house. The message said:
A couple of weeks ago, a car accidentally drove into a canal while doing a U-turn and flipped over in the water. Tom heard the commotion and ran out of the house, stripped down to his underwear and jumped into the canal. He was able to pull the two occupants and their dog out of the vehicle to safety as it was filling up with water. Luckily, everyone was mostly okay (driver was taken to the hospital) thanks to his quick action and bravery. Very few people know about this and he very likely saved a life or at least saved them from serious injury. Once he got the occupants out of the car, paramedics had just arrived and whisked the occupants away.
We tracked Tom down and decided to thank him for Feel Good Friday. Check out the surprise in the video player above!

You may not feel like a hero, but under the right circumstances you would be surprised by what you could do to save someone’s life. Tom obviously found himself in a situation that called for bravery and he stepped up. Very cool!

Humble guy and got himself a cutie wife for life. That's awesome.
Side note to his awesome bravery: He was very smart to take his clothes off first. Even tho it may have cost some seconds initially, it gave him much better dexterity in the water & allowed him to stay in long enough to try 2 methods to save them. He must have been incredibly cold, but clothing, esp loose clothing, in cold water is actually far more dangerous. He likely freed them faster because he was just in his undies (for obvious health & safety issues, leave the undies on, they're light & wont hurt to wear in the water like a swimsuit).

Don't start filming,or calling your friends so you can tell them whats going on,roll your shirt sleeves,& start helping...

Great guy! Glad he was a real man! When he said that he couldn't break the glass, I winced because I carry items with tungsten glass breakers on them, one on a tactical pen, another on a carabiner, the other on the top of a brass pen I carry daily. People smirk and mock the thought of why I carry these, along with multiple forms of flashlights, and then you watch videos like above and now you know why I carry these items (amongst others). 🤷♂️ The complacent laugh now, but when a bad situation arises, the "paranoid wackos" who prepared become the heros. 😉

Definitely a hero, both Tom and his wife actually since she got the ambulance there fast.. I hope the man, woman and dog are all okay. Car is a goner, but that can be replaced. So nice for the recognition by Ashley Furniture and East Idaho News.
