    First let me say how beautiful the finished gem is. I am genuinely appreciating the addition of the unpolished facets. It added more dimension and depth to the gem...beautiful. I also enjoyed the background story. Poor Freddie. Seems karma has finally caught up with him. He should be thankful Jaws didn't decide to pay him a visit to retrieve the rough that had been promised. I shutter to even think how Jaws may have treated Freddie. Another great video Cliff and a beautiful gem created! Thanks!

      Thanks Gun Slinger, the depth of the frosted facets is what make for a gem with a low output of refractive index give some sparkle. Normally such gem material is not the best to get much sparkle out of.

    I'm not sure there's anything we can do for all the Blind Freddy's out there

      I agree...Unfortunately there are way too many sneaky Blind Freddy's out there....

    Lovely cooperation between you and Jaws. Shame the gem wouldn't cooperate - but you did what you could with such an ungrateful stone. Thanks for sharing, Cliff!

    Blind Freddy... hilarious! I think I've dealt with his cousin a couple of times. Very entertaining, yet informative video, Cliff.
    I like your technique of frosting every other pavilion facet. It adds depth to the stone that might not be there otherwise.
    Thanks for the excellent video.

      The frosted facets were purposely made to create depth in what is typically a gem that has a low RI. And yes, I suspect there are plenty of Freddy's in the US.

    Funny vid with a serious message, some of the best rough I have, was found rather than purchased, synthetics are ok, but they have there own issues, like you say we can only vote with our wallets, I like the new intro.Keep 'em coming Cliff, great Vid!!!

      Thanks Paul. You are correct, the best rough is usually material that people find. Having rough gems that are an odd shape is one thing, but selling any with inclusions that are deemed to be perfect in unforgivable. Any qualified gem dealer worth his/her salt should never sell such gems. Most flaws are obvious.

    Poor blind Freddy, I think he lost a customer. You still salvaged a great looking stone.

    Well gosh...enite, I hope Freddy gets better soon haha. Love how it looks and glad you were able to pull something off despite Freddy's blindness.

      Thanks tomcom, I have little hope for Freddy. I have reason to believe the quality of his gems will get worse over the years, even though he can see clearly.

    Dude, you have a great sense of humor. :) I adore your videos! I love watching you cut gems so much. I make jewelry and collect minerals and gems. It's a bit of an addiction at this point. I would love to get into cutting myself but it's quite a daunting hobby to tackle..lol. I think I'll stick to cutting and polishing up cabachons for my jewelry. Thank you for your hard work making these videos. Have a good one!

      Thanks.. I'd like more time to make cabs and jewelry as a alternative to faceting. It all about having time and money. Hopefully when I'm retired I can do a bit more.

    How much does a finished goshenite gem cost?

    • @VintageTimeGems
      @VintageTimeGems  4 роки тому

      I wouldn't think a lot. For a well faceted gem like this possible $40 -$50

    Stunning cut Cliff, I hope you threatened the supplier with a name and shame. Professional cutters should be supplied quality as it is usually the end user that cops the bad results, obviously, word of mouth is not wanted from this supplier.

    • @VintageTimeGems
      @VintageTimeGems  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Prospect Vic, Never good to name and shame on youtube unless you want to end up in court. Long term people don't come back and buy again. Half the problem is the real quality gem material all sold off to high priority gem dealers. They do not sell online or ebay or even gem shows. So recreational facetors get the dregs, such as bad shapes, no depth and inclusions etc. Sadly, they charge a fortune.

    😂 seriously I worry about buying rough. Unless I know someone personally I don't buy. And the only one I have ever bought online from was Joe Henley. I have seen his parcels that others I know have bought. So far everyone I have talked to love his rough. The rough I have bought from him was really good and it was considered a student lot.
    I have a long way to go however before I know rough well enough to be confident on my own to buy the expensive stuff.
    Maybe we should carry a bionic eye around like we do our loupes. 😁.
    Funny video.
    By the way I liked the cut. I havent tried leaving some pavilion facets frosted yet. The crown is different and I will go watch it again so I can see the different steps. Take Care Cliff and Jaws.

      Hi Tam, I've had a few issues with quality rough lately. The really desirable rough is first bought by high profile gem dealers. They never sell online, or Ebay nor gem shows. And sadly, many gem dealers cherry pick the quality gems with depth, shape and color for them selves.

    Another great video! Love the story! Love this design! I'm new to faceting and would like to try a different design. I've done the Round Brilliant with good results. What design would you recommend to try for a second design?
