Dhanushkodi is located at the meeting point of the Bay of Bengal and the Indian Ocean, making it a significant location on the map. The town is about 18 km from the town of Rameswaram.
Ghost Town: The town was once a bustling town with a railway station, post office, and other facilities. However, a catastrophic cyclone in 1964 led to the destruction of the town, and it is now considered a ghost town.
1964 Cyclone: On December 22, 1964, a powerful cyclone hit Dhanushkodi, causing an unimaginable destruction. The cyclone led to the sinking of Pamban-Dhanushkodi Passenger train, resulting in numerous casualties. After the cyclone, the government declared Dhanushkodi as unfit for living, and the town was abandoned.
Land's End: Dhanushkodi is often referred to as the Land's End of India because it is located at the southernmost tip of Rameswaram Island.
