jimbotheassclown . Hey, Sparklestheintellectuallychallengedclown, you’ve apparently never heard of high school football stars. You know, the ones that had all of the most gorgeous co-eds, usually finished near the top of the class, often received full athletic college scholarships, and sometimes made it to the NFL, like my father (Raiders). They are also typically financially successful and socially and mentally competent, unlike far too many of the tragic, alcoholic, clowns 🤡 in society, sucking off of the government teat and just generally dragging the US further into the deepening quagmire of crime and sociopathy. Have a glorious day, and always remember, as a clown, that boxing the clown is a healthier thrill than chugging yet another bottle of Thunderbird.

I got to go on Mission Breakout 3 weeks after it opened. I have a friend who works at Disneyland, she helped me skip the line and go on it 3 times that day while the line up was still over 3 hours long. The next day, I met Dave Bautista at the Starbucks counter i in a random grocery store in Culver City. That was quite a trip to California.

I feel like losing ToT in DCA was a huge loss for the park as it managed to fit SO well thematically. Taking the Red Car Trolley down Buena Vista Street, stopping at the Hollywood Tower Hotel, made much more sense - especially in a park based around California itself.
I also preferred the ride's feeling of suspense, tension and it's use of practical effects over what we got in the retheming.

What happened was at the time fox (wasn't owned by disney at the time) bought the rights back and then sent disney a ceise and desist for the name twilight zone. They made an agreement I think just to change one of them to a different ride which was guardians of galaxy mission breakout.

I do think that mission break fits within California Adventure because of the expansion for the Marvel land, however, when it comes to Epcot I feel like that's the Disney is not fully grasping the opportunities to teach people about future technology and world culture by basically turning the theme park into Magic Kingdom. I know some people have different thoughts about it and I do respect that, but for me personally I feel little bit sad about the neglection of Epcot. Maybe the Guardian's right there will be fun too.

I think Mission Breakout is one of the greatest new attractions added to the Disney Parks of recent years. It may have replaced a beloved ride and people hated it because of that, but at least it was replaced by a ride that wasn’t a letdown. It’s fun and exciting and while completely different to ToT, it still has the same primary function. I love it. And I’m so happy Disney did it.

Fun story about Tower of Terror: I have lived in Los Angeles my whole life. I was about 4 years old when Tower of Terror was completed, so I never really saw any commercials advertising it. However, a couple of years later, the 50th anniversary commercials started airing, and I remember one of the highlights of them was Mickey, Donald, and Goofy going on the "Hollywood" Tower of Terror. Now, my grandmother lived in Hollywood at the time and we would go there about once a week. To get to her house from ours, we had to take the 101 freeway. Well, what happens to be right up against the freeway than the actual Hollywood Tower apartments (yeah, the actual Hollywood Tower is apartments, not a hotel, in case you were wondering - and aside from the color scheme, looks absolutely nothing like any of the towers that Disney has built). So of course, for a while, 5-year-old me was terrified of visiting grandma because I was afraid the tower was going to get me. Of course, I learned later that I didn't need to be scared of the tower, just the awful park it was placed in at the time (I love DCA now though).
So, with the story above, it should come as no surprise that I never rode the Tower of Terror. It's actually not that big of a deal, because even though I live in Los Angeles and have been to Disneyland so many times, I only ever went to Disney California Adventure twice before Tower of Terror was gone. I guess that park hopper tickets were so expensive, and the thought of spending the whole day at DCA just wasn't worth it, is the reason why we mainly stuck to the magic kingdom. For that reason, I never felt anything when Tower of Terror closed, because it wasn't an attraction that I can claim to have any good memories from. Besides that, I also just really didn't like drop rides.
Of course, though, Guardians reared its head and I really didn't think I was ever going to ride it. However, it opened right before Grad Night of my own graduation year, so it was the talk of the town among everyone who was going, including all of my friends. So I mustered up the courage to ride Mission Breakout, and let me tell you, that was an amazing experience. As someone who has been closely following Disney history for a long time, I was so happy to see all the easter eggs scattered everywhere in the queue. I was answering all of my friends' questions about the things in the queue even though they never asked about them in the first place, I was admiring all of the detail that Imagineering put everywhere, I was stunned by the Rocket AA, and everything was great. As we got closer to the Gantry Lifts, my stomach was sinking to my feet and my heart was climbing through my throat, because I had no idea what to expect.
Like I said, I had never ridden Tower of Terror, and I had heard from many Disney media outlets that Mission Breakout was even more intense. So, we got on the ride vehicles and I was pretty much expecting to have to be rolled out of the attraction by my friends because I would be in a fetal position on the floor. Keep in mind: at the time, I was a 6' tall, 300lb, 17-year-old DUDE. That would have been one helluva sight. But, of course, the ride exceeded all expectations and my pants remained dry. Attraction was spectacular. The music was pumping, the scenes were so perfectly clear and hillarious, everyone was having a great time. It almost felt like a party - on an elevator!
I can't compare Guardians to ToT, because I never rode ToT. I can't say that it's better or worse. I will say that, from the videos I have seen of Tower of Terror, that I probably would not have liked it very much. That's not to say that it was bad or good, just that it most likely was not my attraction. With that said, although the exterior doesn't aesthetically fit in with the rest of Hollywoodland, Guardians of the Galaxy: Mission Breakout is a success and an overall great change. I don't have as much of an issue with the outside of the building as most people do, because I've seen much worse things in the real Hollywood, plus I've sort of created my own storyline as to why the Tivan Collection should be there. I know people still yearn for the original attraction and I know that at some point, the area will change again, but if Disney California Adventure - the laughing stock of the Disney Parks for years - has taught us anything, it's that change, however minor or major it may be, is always a good thing... unless you're Soarin' Around the World.

I can't speak for the California version, since I've never been to DCA, but, maybe it's just my paranoia and the fact that Orlando Tower of Terror is my favorite DisneyWorld ride, but the retheming of the DCA version, coupled with the retheming of Hollywood Studios as a whole has me very worried they'll take away the Twilight Zone theme.
Part of the reason that the Tower of Terror is so popular IS the theme. Yes, it's too intense for some kids, but it's also too intense for some adults, not everybody can handle the same things. Most of the kids I've see on ToT love the props and scenery, and I think people do forget that a lot of kids like scary things or being scared. I was fairly young when I went to DisneyWorld for the first time, and honestly I was more scared of Rock n' Rollercoaster going upside-down than the entirety of Tower of Terror because I loved the spooky theming (and I was one of those kids that actually watched the Twilight Zone reruns so bias)
... basically an overly long version of "please Disney don't change Tower of Terror I'll cry"

If you had been to DCA to experience the CA version of the ToT, then you would know the Florida version, which is the original version, is far superior to the cheap CA version. They went cheap with the CA version as they said it was originally slated for Paris, but quickly moved the project to CA to save the failing park, and cut costs to do it quickly. The CA version had only a few bits of Twilight Zone for the storyline, and the ride never moved sideways along the floor before entering the lift shaft. The CA version only had one ride routine, it was the same every single time, and it was quite short. The re-theming to Guardians corrected most of the issues. The lift system was completely replaced so now it has 6 different ride routines and it is a longer ride than ToT. During Halloween, we get a totally new experience with a new storyline, new line queue experience, and new visuals on the exterior thanks to HD projectors. The 4K video sequences are so realistic, it looks like they are right in front of you for real. I was upset about the loss of ToT, but after riding Guardians and seeing how much effort and detail went into the new ride, I like it much more than ToT. The people commenting claiming to hate it, obviously have never been on it.

i was one of the kids that grew up watching the twilight zones because my dad loves them. we love finding all the hidden references to the show like the dummy when you exit the drop shaft, or the space invader in the library. floridas’ is themed perfect to HS and its entire area of the park as well. as someone stated above, it was the original system created. they wont change it unless it is absolutely necessary. and it is the current logo for HS anyways after the Earful Tower got demolished then the Sorcerer Mickey Hat got taken down a few years back.

I've never been on Mission Breakout (UK-based), but I think the drama that closing ToT caused was due to the truly unique and genuinely scary nature of the ride. It's so far from much of what we're used to from Disney, and it had quite a cult following because of that. *Always* team ToT (it was my first 'big ride' as a kid), but Mission Breakout is an awesome reskin of a super fun ride system.

I am pretty sure the Monsters after dark overlay of Mission Breakout is for the Tower of Terror fans. The ride becomes a Halloween type of ride, it feels more dark in some sections, a sound effect in the end of the ride matches the one from Tower of Terror and the queue line adds that creep factor to Tower of Terror. One thing I would also like to say is....for the love of God Disney, you should not change Tower of Terror at Hollywood Studios.

being a fan of both version imo I prefer the guardians version for like it does not feel predictable where as the tower of terror version it always goes by this grid and I love the different scenarios they have to make riding it more than once a treat each time and I like that whole idea that with the different song you can it affects the behavior over the ride and it gets into the spirit of the movie cause like james gunn said that the music plays a critical role in both guardians films its really cool that they also incorporate it to this particular version of the ride sure it was sad to see tower of terror go but if disney keeps doing updates like this and still make it very enjoyable to all audiences and still having that sense of adventure and fantasy I think it really is what all the parks achieve in the end and honestly guardians to this day is like my #1 favorite ride I always want to make time to go on it at least once and am looking forward to the coming marvel land in DCA!

My husband and I rode Guardians of the Galaxy in November 2017, so it was fairly new. We loved it - we screamed and laughed at the same time (is that possible?). My husband said at the time that it was better than California's Tower of Terror. I had never been on that version of Tower of Terror (when I went in December 2016, we only went to Disneyland since it was the day after Christmas, and my sister-in-law and her husband wanted me to see the original park). My husband had never been on Florida's version of Tower of Terror, or to Disney World. When we went to Disney World last year (his first visit), he said the Florida version was far superior to California's version, and we hope that it doesn't change. That said, I would love a separate Guardians ride in Florida. I'm hoping to get back to California at some point (my in-laws all live there), so we can get to Disneyland again!

You cannot ride Mission Breakout and not not have a great experience! It almost can’t be compared to TOT anymore, as the overall ride experience is totally different! It’s amazing how something as simple as a “ride retheme” now offers a completely different attraction.

No comparison to the OG one in Orlando. Admittedly the one in CA wasn't as good as the Orlando one to begin with, so maybe the change was for the better, but cannot compare the OG to this. Already the fact that focus on the OG ones is the uncertainty of the fall, while Breakout is about the watching vignettes of the franchise characters, talks to the changing priorities. I know that there are drops too, but they still pretty much play the same way in Breakout, take a second or two here or there.

If they ever do touch the Orlando ToT (which of course I hope they don't) I think it'd be an intriguing idea to see the retheme use a Doctor Strange makeover. Like imagine the building getting redone to look like the Sanctum Santorum and then the premise of the ride could maybe see Doctor Strange battling an enemy from the comic books, while the "dropping" would be caused by "portals" opening up underneath you as Doctor Strange tries to save you. Each "room" the elevator would drop in could be redesigned with projection mapping to look like different "dimensions" and you could get different combinations of "dimensions" on each ride through due to the fact that the projection mapping could do all the theme work (think the beginning of the Indiana Jones attraction and it's different "combinations" in Anaheim). Like, lord I hope they don't re-do the Twilight Zone theming in WDW because I am a huge fan of the show, but if they ever did, the Doctor Strange theme could provide a similar "oh wait that actually was pretty cool" feeling that GotG did for California Adventure
