  • Learn how to make a traditional Cuban flan. This tutorial is easy and authentic! Plus, my grandmothers recipe will make your tummy sing!
    💥 Click here for Cooking Cuban Merch
    👉 www.etsy.com/shop/TravelEatRe... 👈
    📝 Instructions:
    1) Spoon about 8 spoonfuls of sugar into the flanera tin. Bring the sugar to a boil.
    2) Once the sugar is completely liquid, carefully spread the liquid all around the flanera tin as a coating for your flan. Set aside and let this cool completely.
    3) In a mixing bowl, mix the following ingredients: 4 eggs, 1 can evaporated milk, 1 can sweetened condensed milk, a teaspoon of vanilla (or a bit more if you like!), and a pinch of salt.
    4) Once the sugar coating in the flanera is cooled, pour the contents of the mixing bowl into the flanera.
    5) fill your pressure cooker with enough water so that the flan cooks, but not so much that the water reaches the lip of the flanera lid. If you don't have a pressure cooker fill an oven safe pan with enough water so that the flan cooks, but not so much that the water reaches the lip of the flanera lid.
    6) Put the flanera into the pressure cooker. Once the pressure cooker reaches pressure, start timing about 23-25 minutes. If cooking flan in the oven, Bake at 350 degrees fahrenheit for 50-55 minutes.
    7) Remove the flan from the pressure cooker or the oven, set on the counter and let it cool off COMPLETELY (very important that its completely cooled)
    8) Refrigerate the flan overnight. Enjoy!

    Love this video! It reminded me so much of my grandparents.That is exactly how my grandmother used to make flan (including the coño) LOL. I was searching for Authentic Cuban recipes because since I lost my grandmother almost 4 years ago food hasn't tasted the same. It warms my heart to hear the interaction between all of you because that is exactly how my house sounded when she was alive and when my grandfather was healthy. Enjoy them and cherish every moment.
    Thanks for the video :)

      @SpeedyWinds 5 років тому

      This was the only extra step to your wonderful recipe and technic. Place the evaporated milk in a small saucepan over medium heat. Add the lavender to the milk and allow it to come to a simmer. Simmer the milk for one minute, then turn the heat off and let the lavender steep in the milk until ready to use. Use a sieve to strain the lavender. One more modification that I did, was to replace the cream cheese with Mascarpone cheese.

    I've been hanging out in Cuba - where the flan is the best in the world!
    I have never used a pressure cooker and I didn't even know what that flan dish was!
    I do humanitarian work (potable water) there and also youth exchange groups. I haven't been to Cuba in months. Tonight, your abiella made me want to be there.
    (I couldn't understand her, it was just like being in Cuba!)

    • @SamazingTravels
      @SamazingTravels  10 років тому

      Haha. Glad it could take you back, Deborah! I have a few other recipe videos on my page if you want to cook cuban more often :) I have actually not had the chance to go to Cuba myself, but one day I'd like to. Miami is pretty much as close as it gets without the real thing!
      Just a tip, if you don't have a pressure cooker, you can put the flan mold in the oven for 50 minutes to an hour and it will cook just as nicely!

      Just in he video! I'm working on getting them all in writing in the description as well. Here are the steps:
Enjoy!

    Why is everyone using canned milk for flan? My Cuban bible cookbook says to use whole milk. I have lost my book, sadly. Now every recipe I find uses canned milk. Canned milk makes it too dense and way too sweet. Someone please post the recipe using only whole milk. It's much lighter and less sweet
    Thank you very much.

    • @SamazingTravels
      @SamazingTravels  5 років тому

      Claire Chapin - Is the whole milk supposed to replace the sweetened condensed milk or the evaporated milk in this recipe? Have you tried it this way? Because it really is the most simple and absolutely delicious!

      My MIL is from Cuba and they use canned milks because fresh milk was reserved only for the children/babies in Cuba in the 1960’s that’s why a lot of the older Cubans make flan this way.
