Can these spiders, like the North American widow control their bite (i.e., a dry bite versus a venomous full bite)? Like the Shirt, by the way, spiders and face-huggers, nice combo.

Have had loads of false widows here in England for years in my last house and many now in my greenhouse - finally think I got bitten several times by one trapped in my gardening gloves and , although I'm ok, the bites are still red and itchy after 3 and a half days - the bite wasn't painful enough at first for me to take off the gloves and look but it's bothering me now
Interesting video. Caught a False Widow in my garage earlier. Initially thought it was a black widow until I got a closer look and noticed the cream/brown markings, so figured I would learn more.
Ive studies arachnids for many years and the false widow has been in the UK since the 70s and most bites are like an itchy nettle sting that fades after 4 hours. Obviously a few people have a worse reaction than others, much like some have with wasp and bee stings but cases of necrosis around the bite area don't come from the venom but from bacteria on the spider or surrounding environment, which makes it important to clean and disinfect the bite area. With regards to the cellar spider you are correct but it should be added that because of the slenderness of their legs the only place prey species can bite them in defence is on their body whereas they can land a bite on the legs of prey. All 3 of these spiders are capable of biting.
Good video. I was bitten by a false widow 2 years ago and had weeks of flu like symptoms and still have a black mark under my belly button where the flesh died. Got bitten a few days ago again in my conservatory where I work and it's a painful blister ....taking antihistamine. So not pleasant houseguests.
Doubt it. Cats might knock it about with their paws but think we've got more chance of getting bit while sleeping or something. Just killed a male one last night when I woke up it was on one of my weights. I don't like killing spiders but these are just too abundant in the south east of London. They are teaming round my house and I can't even leave the windows open because they web all round the handles and frames etc.
@@benturner3458 That sounds pretty terrible. I live in Sheffield, but never seen a single one, ever. I asked about the cats because my cat always eats spiders if he sees them running along the floor, even the really big ones.
@@Tony-1971 you might be surprised if you know where to look. The thing is they are nocturnal spiders. So you rarely see them during the day. Black Widows usually only have one red spot under their body, so that might be another kind of spider that pretends to be widows for defence. So you MIGHT be fine. See alot of them in Utah so they're a normal sight, great for my anxiety~ I'd say ask an expert, cause you might have literally nothing to worry about, but that 50/50 ain't exactly worth it.

Spiders very misunderstood creatures , Favourite line out of entire harry potter i also adore spiders . Theyre much more afraid of you then you are of them .
got bit by one , so here I am , , it was in my pants and bit my leg , Not sure I did the right thing I opened the bite and squeezed it out , bled it and used a lot of alcohol , so far so good it has been , 14 hrs also took loratadine since i tend to be allergic to ,many things , pain similar to a bee sting , also kept the spider after i smacked it in defense , in case I had to make a hospital visit I can take it in , the bite has developed to a red coin sized red spot , but today I have no pain , medical center was closed where I am in chile , putting my info here since there was not much on line , if things go bad I will comment back so no one repeats my mistakes , IN Chile as the temps go up in the houses the spiders like to go into clothes , I shake my clothes usually and check the bed every night , and yes many times I have found the recluse spider in my stuff , but this guy was new to my encounters
Really informative video although I knew all this already. It must be really disappointing to make a clear, scientific, factual video, like this, then read the idiocy in the comments thread. I swear they see the name then go straight to comments to tell everyone the rubbish they think, despite just being told its rubbish. People, theres no improving them!
I love my little juvenile false widow. They don't seem to have urticating setae even though up close you can see fine hairs. I am able to house a widow so at least it's guaranteed to have a good life, no breeding and I can also study their behaviour more. The hairs on some new world tarantulas are far worse and we keep them on purpose. Strange world we live in.
My issue with this poor false widow spider is that he trapped it in a jar and kept shaking the F out of it as he was talking.. Alright mate stop shaking the tub now.. ffs
I have had a false widow spider residing in a cupboard in my garage (County Antrim) for around two years quite happily. There are also cellars in there, so I am surprised they havent killed the FW. The FW is a wee wimp, she runs and hides at the slightest movement. 🤣
Wait, so why does Wikipedia claim they're less dangerous than Black Widows? lol Black Widow's are hardly dangerous even when bit, but dem tings sound a pain
I hate when people hype up daddy long legs spider's dude Me & my little brother used to catch em and feed em 2 our pet blackwidows not once has a daddy long legged won in our experience 😒 and they were common everyday food for our pet widows.
That's probably because you introduced the cellar spider to the enclosure and home of your widows. If the widow got caught in the web of the cellar spider while out roaming, it would 9 times out of 10 lose to the cellar spider.

They are just beautiful. I have lived with my current female for almost 3 years, probably her last. Web goes right round ceiling of room and main web has 7 shelves! Lives in my kitchen, comes out when I cook or put the kettle on, she likes the steam. I can handle her no problem, never bitten me. SPIDER jiu jitsu 😂🤣👍
I am extremally arachnophobic but daddy long legs is the only spider ever that I'm not afraid off. Maybe I could sense the spider exterminator/spider ninja vibes coming of them.
After being bitten by one of these false widows whilst I was half asleep in bed, if I find them, they're getting ejected from my house.
I've got 2 Nobel False Widow spiders in my conservatory, I leave them be, they are happy up in the roof in their own corners and don't bother me, I don't know about Ireland but they've been in the south of England for well over 100 years.
Very informative and interesting
I got bit in the face by one of these in the middle of the night once 😭 SO painful
I got bitten on the face at 1:30am this morning, it is so painful and I’m a bit scared …… did you get any problems?
@@bexm-a8293I didn’t thankfully! My face hurt for like 24 hours and I just iced it and took Tylenol and then by the next day it was all back to normal
Love this video. Subbed.
I think I just found one in my flat and I squashed it with my mobile phone!!!! It was on my pillow and now I'm going to spray every bloody corner of my flat
Fun fact: this is the spider they used in Spiderman 2002
nice shirt choice to talk about spiders and such ;)
Loved that mate.
Well that's brilliant information thank you. Just rescued a tiny little spider from my goldfish tank phew blimey they eat everything xxx
Great loved it. I never knew about the spindly spiders power 😀. I think you r hard done by your f widow had v short legs compared to mine. They live in my shed quite happily and deter females 😁. I have been bitten on neck went to doctors and they never heard of them? So they sent me to hospital and they said sit there for a few hours to see if something happens to you It did not. Was a little painful and worrisome as I had not seen your vid 👍👍👍👍
excellent!
I saw one of these come out from under my bed.
Northern Dublin Every Day Bro 👍👍👍 i love false widows
Class video
My friend chased me with a false widow
Spiders very misunderstood creatures ,
Favourite line out of entire harry potter i also adore spiders .
He's an Alien fan. Autosub.
I was bitten by a false widow and instantly grew an extra head 👍
My issue with this poor false widow spider is that he trapped it in a jar and kept shaking the F out of it as he was talking..
Alright mate stop shaking the tub now.. ffs
My skin is itching
I have had a false widow spider residing in a cupboard in my garage (County Antrim) for around two years quite happily. There are also cellars in there, so I am surprised they havent killed the FW. The FW is a wee wimp, she runs and hides at the slightest movement. 🤣
Big spider is call wolf spider they do bit but all small poison never
It's not a wolf spider. It's Tegenaria species.
Hey great Tshirt...
There's a big one in the kitchen here, I can't bring myself to kill it. It's there more than 2 years now.
EGG BUTTIES!
I have two females. I really should remove her. I nicknamed the first one deathalina. She's huge
My mam cousin 😮😮😅😅😅
My mam cousin😮😮😅😅😅
I have spattered a lot of these so-called spiders.
Just spotted one where i work with a gardener today.. Didn't kill it but .. YUK
Wait, so why does Wikipedia claim they're less dangerous than Black Widows? lol Black Widow's are hardly dangerous even when bit, but dem tings sound a pain
If I get one in my house guilty as charged and sentenced to death.
if they get found in my gaff they will be burned.
I can identify them. I'll kill it.
