@3:36 is just what I needed. I had the same problem that no one else explained how the choke worked and being lose is OK. I was putting it together and thought some other wire or hitch must have fallen. Thanks.
Thanks, I'm 71 and a female and I can do this myself. I knew it was the carburetor, and mine sou ds just like yours...you made this ezey..thanks again.
I'm sure you've heard this from all the other comments, but thank you for this excellent video. Straight to the point and I'm super impressed with the carburetor kit that you purchased through Amazon. The link is also going to be very helpful. Keep up the videos cuz you did a great job brother. Thanks again. Take care
I had to change my carburetor last spring and had a lot of headwrangling to figure out the choke attachment. Your video is the best of all I've seen. Thanks for uploading
Two years later and you’re still a life saver lol thanks for the great tutorial video! I got a 7 speed Troy built so I’m guessing it’s about the same process lol
Mitch, I bought the carb kit for my Ariens with that same 17.5 hp motor. A couple of updates/cautions to your viewers. On mine, all 4 bolts on the magneto cover are 3/8". The rear 2 are "Long" shouldered and the front 2 are short shouldered. As for the choke linkage, install the throttle linkage first, keep a little tension on it/them, THEN install the choke linkage. Easy peasy. Be CAREFUL that your throttle butterfly is LOOSE. Mine had a minor binding (burr?). Choke worked perfectly. Your video was excellent. Thanks again!
Dude - you just saved my bacon. Couldn't figure how to get my motor housing back in place...your tip for how the oil fill fits into the underneath of the housing was VERY HELPFUL. Thanks man!
Not a problem, I find myself usually in the same situation. Most videos glance over small details that end up being “lessons learned” I figure I’ll take the 30 seconds and explain it.
Thanks, this was really helpful. My Pony was a tiny bit different. All 4 bolts had to come out to remove the top cover. I also had to remove the gas tank to be able to get the rear bolts out. All the rest was identical. The absolute biggest tip was the choke connector. I would have never figured that out on my own. Thanks again.
Dude!!!! Thank you!!!!! I ran across a few videos that demonstrated how to switch out the carburetor. I was able to remove everything with no problem while waiting for the part to come tomorrow. While removing the carburetor, the choke hangar came off. Although I took a picture of the set up before I removed the carburetor, I could not tell from the picture how the choke hangar was supposed to be seated. I had zero idea of how to reposition it. Talk about panic!!!!. . . . until I ran across your video. I searched high and low before finding it because I was searching under Poulon Pro, my mower. . .which is the same as the Troy built, husqvarna, craftsman, etc. . . All of this to say one more time, thank you for making this video brother. Keep doing what you do in spite of the haters who criticize from their keyboards. At least you made an effort to make a positive difference. And based on all of the remarks I have read regarding your video, YOU are making a difference.
Thank you for your feed back. I found myself looking all over UA-cam looking for help. I had to figure it out on my own, I decided that more people desired the explanation of the throttle linkage due to my own problems. I hope to make more repairs for people to fix issues such as this.
Thanks for posting. I’ve never attempted anything like this and your video seems easy enough for me to do. I’m in an area where there aren’t any local lawnmower shops. I see that you were terribly hot and wanted to just get it done and still I wish you hadn’t skipped steps for this novice. Wish me luck.
Excellent Video!!! Thank You! You are very detailed and competent in your explanation of “How To” get the job done. You have successfully taught me how to get this specific job done in 10 minutes! However, I would suggest that you let the negative comments go, just “Let it Go”, The negative comments obviously bother you. Your GOOD WORK of “giving” to others speaks for itself. When you constantly speak of the ill-intended comments, you give them that much more power over your life. Again, thank you and may God be with you and yours... -Jimmy.
NICE! I have the EXACT same mower and engine, but I rebuilt my carb....very simple. I bought the mower used and noticed in your video that VERY fine spring attached to the carb is missing on my rig. The choke is puzzling too, but you showed how it is re-installed. THANK YOU! BTW, It's very common for the head gasket to blow between the valve port(s) and cylinder. Easy replacement on that but it's a good idea to do a carb check too. Thanks for the video!
Appreciate it Brother! I’m changing my carb out today, waiting for Amazon to deliver it now. Your video was a perfect tutorial and I feel ya on this Florida heat, we live in Plant City 🥵 Take care and thanks again!
This is the most helpful video. The only thing I am curious about is that most tutorials say to disconnect the battery first but it doesn't look like he did that so it doesn't seem like I need to.
patrick watkins I cant stand when I’m trying to figure something out and there’s a 7 minute intro by the commentator. Stfu and show what to do. Thanks for your feed back!
your straight forward and brutal honest video is a breath of fresh air. Just keep being you-if they dont like your video's they can watch something else! ty

But did your father and grandpa run Troy Bilts? I mean that’s critical information for a DIY repair video. 😆 Thanks for posting this, very helpful! Thumbs up 👍
You must be in the south. I'm used to heat and humidity in October as well. Great video. I'll tear down the carb and clean only once. Then it will complete a 6 carb wind chime 😂. Then I'll order one from Amazon. Thanks
If you end up with a leak on the back side of the carb I think it could be the gasket. They gave you one in the kit but you didn’t use it. I couldn’t tell if there was o e on the old carb.
I wish I’d seen your video sooner! I got a very similar kit for my Poulan, and it looks like yours might have this too. There’s a screw above the fuel supply, and and inch towards the front of the mower. The screw has a spring on it, and there’s a covering plastic piece that came in the kit… what does that do for the carb?
It looks like the kit came WITH the new solenoid? is that right? Also thought I saw there was a gasket... where would the new/replacement gasket go...looks like maybe manifold? did you HAVE TO change that out too? Was the a new new carb or a rebuilt carb? I also purchase off Amazon mostly concerned about the air filter and pre-filter my local store didn't have instock. Was also please it came with a spark plug and fuel filter. Spark plug came in handy BUT the fuel filter was the wrong kind.--for the type that has a fuel pump...mine if gravity no pump. Local store did NOT have the fuel filter OR supercede fuel filter but found one similar and size etc. Only thing I don;t know is if the flow throw was the same "microns". Anyway...looks like my only option yet to self solve is the carb. so might be taking that on... last step before I buy a new mower and send this to someone else to mess with and put the mower deck belt on too.
That’s a valid point and I apologize. The choke linkage slips through that slot and gets pressed by the throttle controller. It connects to the only remaining hole on the butterfly valve.
