Don’t get me wrong I like Temu and I do buy from them. It certainly helps me out when I do art with kids or to get myself some cheaper items, however, not only5 when other people‘s artwork is stolen but also when packaging looks like an original brands such as the neo-color Caran d’Ache water soluble crayons not only do the crayons look identical, but so does the external packaging. If you don’t take a close enough look, that shouldn’t be allowed, you can clearly see what is trying to be done to confuse the consumer and the people that have had their stuff stolen. Teemu has not pulled the sites down or helped them very much if at all, sometimes not even responded so they might say that they do this and that, but in actual fact, the people who can tell you whether they are actually helping are the people that it’s happened to. I"m glad to see you're healing well after your surgery. I like to use Temu as well. Especially for the Baohong paper. I just bit the bullet and bought a roll of Artist Baohong. I figure I can cut the sizes I want and make my own various sized sketchbooks. I have noticed changes in the how well stuff is packaged, tho. Little stuff, like some storage tins and small plastic storage containers ( which I'd ordered before ) were just chucked in there and were pretty bashed up. Corners on the watercolor blocks kind of squished. My early orders never had that kind of damage. I've not had broken glass stuff thank goodness. One of my fave non art products: The hair dry towels. I've ordered several now. The large rectangle ones with the elastic strap. I have joint issues and have a hard time managing heavy towels for drying my hair. These are light, quick, secure easily and quick dry. Love them! Have a great rest of your day 😸
Have you tried talking to costumer service and letting them know? They've usually been pretty good at taking care of stuff like that for me. You'll have to let me know whether you like the roll paper or not. I've had the same idea myself but haven't done it yet! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I love to watch everything! I do alittle of both. Depends on my mood and what art supplies I am going to use that day. But I can say for me painting loose and quick is more relaxing. I sometimes get stressed when I paint too tight. 😊
Thanks! I'm trying out different styles to try to get out of my art block... I haven't been enjoying my process lately but this was lots of fun! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I have a 25 set of the Sunny pastels and the 12 set as well and love them. I caught on to these pretty early on so they were super cheap. I also have 40+ Neocolor II and the large set of Lyra watersoluble crayons, as well as Art Creation and Mungyo watersoluble oil pastels, and I have to say that the Sunny are my second fave after the Neos. They would make a great gift for an arty kid, too. Sunny supply children’s art materials to Lidl (they are listed on the Sunny website as one of their partners) , which is a large supermarket chain here in Europe, so they are probably going to be pretty good quality and safe for kids. I love their tins too and my only criticism is I wish they were a bit thinner (I mean the tins) as I would love to use them as travel tins for my Neocolors
almost forgot I also have a set of the artist grade Neoart Aquarelle by Caran d’Ache, which are sadly no longer being made, but I find them very comparable to the current Neocolor II. The Sunnys come after the Caran D’Ache. Sometimes I use them as a base for painting over with Neos if I am using them in my sketchbook. saves me wasting the more expensive supplies
Oh, and to answer your question. I recently discovered Ohn Mar Win. She just throws on some water color on all the pages of her sketchbook. Then we she decides on something to paint or does a plein air painting, she does it over one of the pages and lets some of the background watetcolor show thru. I thought it was really interesting and unique.
I had to giggle when I saw you ordered very similar things to my last lot. 😂 their watercolour pencils, at least the ones I got aren’t great unless you use them on wet paper or (whispering) wet the pencil itself. I have the Meehan paints which have better reviews than Maree’s but I’m also a beginner at watercolour and to me they were an upgrade from the super cheap palette I bought first. I use both Bahong and Academy paper and to me there’s no difference but again I’m a beginner. I started with really cheap paper from Temu and basically had to start learning again when I got tube paints and good paper because nothing behaved the same. 😂😂😂 I love artists who aren’t brand snobs, when you’re a beginner (at least not a rich beginner) why spend a lot and then find out that you don’t actually like painting after all. I always liked drawing but I’ve been sick for a couple of years and needed something different to do before I went crazy, hence watercolour. 😁 Your painting to me was gorgeous. So far line and wash is my fav and I have waterproof pens from temu, a full set of black and of colour and they are all 100% waterproof, even when the paint is damp the pens don’t bleed. I’ve also learnt with Temu to put a lot of the same things in the cart eg bahong paper then pick the cheapest supplier. Some bahong will be under $10 from one supplier and $22 from another for exact same one
I actually really like the meeden paints. I always recommend them to beginners because they are pretty darn good quality, they are lightfast rated, and they tell you what pigments they use, all for an affordable price! I think they are great and a good choice for anyone! thank you for watching and commenting!
@@winterwoodsstudio I’m liking the paints so far, I just bought a set of their Gouache paints as well. I’m also addicted to buying art stuff already 🤣🤣🤣
I suspect you had a great deal of fun doing that video - it was certainly fun to watch! I recently acquired a pad of the BaoHong (spelling probably way off) Academy paper, cold press, after seeing so many comments praising it. Haven't had a chance to give it a run out yet, but am looking forward to seeing how it works for me. I doubt that anyone can change their style overnight but it was interesting to see you trying for a looser approach in that last piece - I wonder if this will become a long-term project/goal for you over the next few (or maybe many) months? Thanks for the video - kind regards, Brian.
Hi and greetings from Finland! Thank you again your video. I Bought watercolours from Temu too and colors was very good. I like watercolor painting and other art too, sketchbook...drawing etc. Your videos give me very good tips again
wether you like it or not I always recommend people choose academy/student grade paints as those cheap ones from temu and equivalent will not look good, will not last, are usually powder based like chalky and if you are serious with your art that's just a pitty you are doing to yourself. the student grade paints are budget paints and preform good enough to not bring anything you do down. winsor newton cotman, schmincke academy etc are cheaper go have fun with those. on the long run you will be happier and you don't need that much, you don't need to hoard supplies. a basic set will do fine when you learn to colour mix. those art supplies shops home brand paper and brushes are also fine and cheaper. I order for Europe at gerstaecker and they have home brand paper and brushes and probably also paint. next to that I order from a local shop to as they are cheaper 🤭 but they don't have everything
This video was just for people getting started with watercolor. They do have decent enough watercolors to try out just to see if you are interested. You can get Meeden watercolor tubes on there and they are very good paints, with the pigment numbers and the lightfast rating. That is what I recommend to all my beginner and even intermediate level students and anyone who is on a budget. My favorite watercolors are Daniel Smith but I know a lot of people don't have the budget when they are starting out to afford them. One tube can be $18 or you can get the whole set of Medeen watercolors for the same price. I have lots of videos on my channel where I work with the Meeden watercolors (and a lot where I work with my Daniel Smith) and I like them a lot. You should try them and see what you think!
@winterwoodsstudio I use Daniel smith, schmincke horadem and winsor and Newton paints. my first were van ghogh watercolours from the early century and never liked those, also had talens watercolours and never liked those either. I have schmincke gouache and was looking for a pink, but they didn't had any except in their academy/student grade so I got that one instead. I see the difference emediatly in quality but nonetheless it's a fine pink. based on my experiences I just recommend top brand student/academy grade paints. in a sketchbook it doesn't matter, but I barely use a sketchbook. for sheets or block paper lightfastness does matter. thanks for replying 😊
Hullp Amy, SO glad I caught up and your doing Ok? I have tried the Baohong papers too and both are quite nice. Artists and Academy lines are so close Iam not sure what the difference is. Oh, I work realistically most of the time. I tried to get into soft pastels to loosen up my style and try to get away from being so tight! I have had a little success, but I still need to get looser in my other mediums! Please take your time getting back to creating videos! Stay safe and Be Well!
I don’t understand the reason for not telling us the higher and brand for comparison I grew up painting oils, and now I paint and acrylic. I just got into water, soluble colored pencils, which I adore, and I’m curious to know about the crayons because I have never used them. I’ve never seen anybody use them and I would love to know what you’re comparing them to is it a secret? Lol.
Off the top of my head: karlyn holman, wearefamilyart, xin yi, javid tabatabaei are all loose, very inspirational and most importantly fun people to watch and get inspired from in the loose watercolor style. Linda brown and tom lynch are also fun to watch with there experimental techniques and to try. It's very hard to paint freely and let things flow after painting so controlled. They all have very different styles so i am sure you could find something to help get the ideas flowing. I am surprised you are painting loose but did not start out wet on wet. Does this sketch book not handle water well? It looks very nice! Oh and the name brand water soluable crayons last forever and are sold open stock. So no need to treat them so precious. 😊 You only live once so use your good supplies! I hope you are recovering well. Thank you for another great video! I absolutely adore and love ferrets! I had two just like her. ❤ And also a silver footed one.
I have a lot of the supplies you bought and am very happy with them! I’ve been looking at the baohong sketchbook but have not bought one yet, I do have the block of papers, though, and sketchbooks from Etsy with baohong paper and am very happy with them! The floral sketchbook I have in a rectangular shape (and different design) and I‘m not sure if it’s proper watercolor paper. In some spots along the edges or the fold of the binding the water seeped into the paper staining the back and the following pages. It was like the paper was treated somehow and they missed a few spots. And when I did we on wet the paper started to rub off in places. But my kids love those sketchbooks and we took them on vacation with us. And they’re definitely working well with gouache or acrylics, for watercolors I would choose other sketchbooks
Huh. I haven't had that problem with the little watercolor sketchbooks at all. It sounds like you got one with bad sizing. All watercolor paper is treated with sizing and when it goes bad it can cause spotting and weird paint application. You can buy sizing and recoat it yourself but for the price of the watercolor journals, maybe it's not worth it? I remember there was a big commotion a few years back because Arches put out a huge batch of their cold pressed paper and it had bad sizing. ..
That sort of goes against the definition of what's considered loose painting right now, but you should always be true to yourself and your vision for your own artwork!
I also live far from Michaels. I’m in Canada, no Joann’s or Hobby Lobby. There are no local craft or art supply stores near me either. I like Temu. Crafting is EXPENSIVE. I buy used supplies. I try to make my money go as far as I can.
I really enjoyed this video and I can say the items you showed look really good. Always love watching your videos, they are so inspirational. Hope you are doing well!
For me personally I am a very very tight photorealistic artist although in watercolor bring it down to just realistic as well as with acrylics my pencil work is very photorealistic
sorry, second comment, but since you asked....I love doing flowers and landscapes but always too tight. For botanicals it makes sense, but I tend to overwork. I try not to. One artist on UA-cam that has helped with that is Diane Antone Studio. She has a bajillion videos. Uses low cost supplies (Kuretake Gansai sets, Meeden watercolor paper), she has a lovely chill voice, I play her playlists to fall asleep. But she inspires me to let go and put color on paper in shapes. lol, I don't know how to explain it exactly. Carefree, I think? No fuss just color, water and paper and relax.
That sounds lovely! The no fuss, ust paint and water.... I have the same issue you do. I paint really tight and realistic and I like how they turn out in the end but lately the process of getting there has been horrible. By the end, I'm all stressed out and my back Iis cramped up and I have a headache and feel crabby. I've been reading a book about finding your "why" and my why for art always used to be relaxation and stress relief. I'm pretty sure it's what's causing my art block. Thanks for the artist recommendation! I will be sure to check them out!
@@winterwoodsstudio You're very welcome! For sure I'm exactly the same way. I get so tense and then it hurts and then I get grumpy. But then I get grumpy when I don't paint. I love your content and your work and love that you share it with us, but I don't know if I could manage it without being on a high dose of something or other. I just had an experience with Michael’s that made me so angry first off when they have a sale you have to buy it online then they give you just a few days to be able to pick it up. So I placed an order during a 20% off sale, not a large order on a Saturday. The next day I went online and the same things were all 40% off. I was so upset I went to the store I returned everything went outside on my phone re-ordered it again at 40% off. I told the cashier not to put everything away so at least I didn’t make her pull it again. But in my opinion that was down and dirty by Michael’s I have come to find out they change their sales on Sundays. You have to watch them. There are good deals. Keep your receipts because they’re going to put it up lower in my case from 20% to 40% in one day, I’m still fuming over it. Of course Hobby lobby doesn’t have the same selection however, when I was in their store, the sales girl told me when I went to the register if you can wait a day it’s going on sale tomorrow. Michael’s employees don’t do that. I think it’s deceptive. I think it’s stinky, it makes me feel like I’m being ripped off. Yesterday I needed some paints and I sat with my iPad and my computer on Cheap Joe’s and Michael’s and the difference in the pricing is incredible. Literally over the top. Michael’s in my opinion has become an ultimate rip off, unless I need something right away, I won’t step foot in there anymore.
I only ordered from them once and I got a white bag, nothing was wrapped in bubble wrap. One watercolor palette was cracked and something else was bent so I wasn’t impressed with the packaging but I loved everything I got.
Their packaging is crap. From all my orders, I had either items missing from bags that gotten damaged in transit, or items being damaged due to not enough wrapping or just randomly throwing items in a bag together. But the prices on the Baohong paper and empty palettes is very good.
I love watching your videos. I think temu gave you the wrong information about the coupon code. It said for all users and when I attempted to input the code it said it was only for new users. Just thought you might want to know.
Having money to shop anywhere is not always a privilege. Some people can because they made better choices and worked their butts off to have money. I do agree those comments are ignorant though. I see you are sharing what you do and if someone don't like it they can not watch.
It's still a privilege. We work our butts off too and we don't have a lot of money. My husband works construction and I've never seen anyone work as hard as him. No paid vacation or sick days. Physically hard labor in brutally hot days, in rain, or -30 zero while it snows. He had something happen while he was at university so he was physically unable to continue college. I got sick and it took them ten years to get me in remission. I only had a year and a half to go on my bachelor's degree and i couldn't continue. I also during that time had my son who has special medical needs. Life happens sometimes and you have no control over it. To say you made "better choices" means you had the privilege to make those choices. My husband and I are examples of people who had to work around really really hard life circumstances. They are many people out there who don't have a lot of money and it's not because they don't work hard or because they made bad choices.

I love your ferret, so cute!!!😊
Aww your ferret is so cute 💕💕 also love the haul 💕💕
Thanks for showing how to do art!
I’ve ever shopped there but I’m going to do it! How long does it take to get an order?
Aww sweet little pet ♥️
I love to watch everything! I do alittle of both. Depends on my mood and what art supplies I am going to use that day. But I can say for me painting loose and quick is more relaxing. I sometimes get stressed when I paint too tight. 😊
This was a fun haul! I have that travel set of paintbrushes in the brown pouch and I love them.
Awesome haul ❤ love the tree you did
Shop where you want. Judgements free zone from me.
I love artists who aren’t brand snobs, when you’re a beginner (at least not a rich beginner) why spend a lot and then find out that you don’t actually like painting after all.
I always liked drawing but I’ve been sick for a couple of years and needed something different to do before I went crazy, hence watercolour. 😁
Your painting to me was gorgeous.
Please make a night scene with those gold paints.
I have the baohong paper too and it's so good for the price 🥰🥰
Yes! I agree! A very good value for the quality! Thanks for watching!
Hi and greetings from Finland! Thank you again your video. I Bought watercolours from Temu too and colors was very good. I like watercolor painting and other art too, sketchbook...drawing etc. Your videos give me very good tips again
This turned out really nice.
wether you like it or not I always recommend people choose academy/student grade paints as those cheap ones from temu and equivalent will not look good, will not last, are usually powder based like chalky and if you are serious with your art that's just a pitty you are doing to yourself. the student grade paints are budget paints and preform good enough to not bring anything you do down. winsor newton cotman, schmincke academy etc are cheaper go have fun with those. on the long run you will be happier and you don't need that much, you don't need to hoard supplies. a basic set will do fine when you learn to colour mix. those art supplies shops home brand paper and brushes are also fine and cheaper.
@winterwoodsstudio
I use Daniel smith, schmincke horadem and winsor and Newton paints. my first were van ghogh watercolours from the early century and never liked those, also had talens watercolours and never liked those either.
Hi, love your video and good advice. Why do you use different email accounts for your orders? Hugs from Italy 🇮🇹
Skill share and unsplash clears up my Artist block.
I love the picture you did!!
Thanks, Teresa!
Lol.
Very nice haul! I will have to try out that watercolor paper.
I remember there was a big commotion a few years back because Arches put out a huge batch of their cold pressed paper and it had bad sizing. ..
I don’t think where or how much art supplies cost should matter, as long as they bring you joy, unless you’re selling your artwork then it matters.
you do good so tell every one to........
Try using the water soluble pastels on a pallet first, then use the brush to apply to the paper. That is technically how to use the Neocolor 2’s also.
Just my 2c but I think anything man made like the picnic table should be tight and straight. Nature should be fluid and loose.
I like the results of my realistic work but I find the process really stressful. Do you have that problem at all? Thanks for watching!
sorry, second comment, but since you asked....I love doing flowers and landscapes but always too tight.
We spend so much money on this endeavor I almost feel guilty if I don't get to it every day. I honestly don't know how artists who create youtube stuff do it. I love your content and your work and love that you share it with us, but I don't know if I could manage it without being on a high dose of something or other. Nothing but respect for you and all the artists managing family life and still creating content. Kudos to you Amy!
I wish i had the gift of 'arting' .... do not underestimate yourself !!!! Did you say that the round brushes are decent ??? Just got my answer from your video ...... and I subscribed .... Annie Lou
Yes, the ones with the green handles are awesome! I might get another set to use with my acrylic gouache!
I have some ink markers that bleed I like to use them as shadow areas it takes practice try in your sketches.
Thanks for the tip, eldrid!
Amy… how much for the sketchbooks and the watercolor paper?
Loose is hard try the pallet knife and water more water more loose lol
❤❤❤
Wow I know what you’ll be going through . I’ve had right shoulder Full reconstruction Surgery . Wishing you all the best for your surgery . Take pain meds 20 minutes before each physio session hun .
Academy grade is pretty decent with the better price.
I get you’re working on a style change. ????? Could you paint some detailed and loose things in the same piece or is that totally crazy????
What type of surgery did you have.
I had tendon reattachemnt surgery. They reattached them with titanium screws... it wasn't fun!
@@winterwoodsstudioI literally just had that surgery in August...elbow (darn heavy Stanley snapped my tendon)
My stuff from Temu never come in the orange bags.
When I order, my stuff either comes in orange bags or white ones without the logo. Usually orange thougg!
Thanks for the info! I will let them know! I am not sure what's up with that!
I say people who work hard have the "means" and rightfully so. If wealth is given then it is privilege.
You don't say if any of the products are vegan. That is important to know!
you have the academy block at $10.49 for the size you have the large size in Canada its going for $38.98 !!! yikes!!
coupon is only for new users = not all.
