Interesting point about Kenny's ability to push some BS through. Personally I feel that is more the byproduct of not being able to be consistent in structure. Maybe that is all on the parties involved: Canada's wack play calling, the O-line not consistent holding up in pass pro and Pickett inexperience/current slow progressions. If the Steelers/Tomlin can get the right offensive mind to bring that consistent structure and even take advantage of Pickett's mobility, I think Steelers fans can live with his faults. As well get hype when he can make stuff happen out of structure in his own way.
I definitely get the negatives of his play last season. Mostly any throwing qb who ends up being good I think starts off rougher their rookie year, and then it’s a question of if they can develop.
You’re right, pretty much 100% right. But from training camp and just seeing Kenny, I think he’s gotten a million times better at those reads you were talking about and not locking on one dude, yes it’s not that hard to get worse than he was at times. But a lot of the blame goes to Canada, if we had anyone else at OC Kenny could develop so much faster and same with the rest of the O. People dog on Najee too much and don’t realize the situation he had last few seasons, crappy O Line and crap play calling, leading to 3.9 yards a carry, matter of fact that’s impressive looking at the line and the fact that he was hurt half the season.
20th* Overall - When evaluating Rookie QBs you gotta look at every snap - and sometimes that means stats get muddled. Appreciate the love. How Many Touchdowns will Kenny Pickett Throw in 2023? ⬇⬇⬇

Fourth best QB in the AFC North? So what? He's ours and he'll good enough. And he'll be much better this season because of the reps he got in the second half of last season and this preseason.
Couple things.. Pickett was a rookie and was growing.. Matt Canada is probably the worst offensive coordinator in football, and his offensive line was pretty bad last year but is much improved this year. He doesn’t have to be a “star” just continue to grow and play off the defense
0:37 I'm gonna have to stop you right there and remind you that Kenny's first NFL pass smacked right off of Claypool's hands. Was it the best read in the world? Nope. But should it have been picked? Nope.
Idk how to explain it, but kenny actually seems like someone who can make it in the league. Just something about how to played and Carried himself. Also feel like Steelers were a good fit.
What worries me the most about Pickett is the org sticking with Canada because they felt that Pickett needed the familiarity and wouldn't adapt well to a new system. I expect moderate improvement over last year, but much of the same with Canada behind the sheet.
I'm willing to give the benefit of the doubt with the growth of play callers. Steichen being a good example from his days coaching up Herbert for a short few then with the Hurts and the Eagles offense. What I gather from Steelers fans is that this is Canada's prove it or lose it season. And if the Steelers offense just doesn't pop, I'd be surprised if he's still around Tomlin's staff.
I disagree that the first pass to Claypool was a bad read or throw, one-on-one with Claypool against a small DB amd the best Claypool could do is let the ball bounce off his hands, the difference between 40 yard shot play or a pick is the result and the WR is at fault there

I really appreciate pointing out his weakness's a lot of media tends to just focus on the good stuff. Now I know what to look out for to see if Kenny is actually improving on from what he did last season.
Dude, he was a rookie in a new offense. As a matter of fact, the entire offense was new! To think he won’t progress since last year is just stupid. Y’all act like Joe Burrow, LamarJ., or any of these new QBs didn’t struggle their rookie year. Go look at Payton Manning’s rookie stats. More ints than tds. It would be better to say that you just don’t like him. Let’s just see how well these so call elite guys do if their defense is not good this season.
Burrow technically didn't struggle his rookie year in terms of playing pocket QB. Especially if you count 2021 as an extension of his rookie year due to injury. Sure he got his teammate from LSU Chase to catch basic balls along with the break out of Tee Higgins along with Joe Mixon who was great as a runner. But his O-line was arguably as trashy as Pickett's O-line in 2022. Sure he had Jonah Williams for LT but the interior was bad. Then Reiff went down toward the end of the season and Adeniji had to play tackle. Any other QB and they would have been slop with that O-line in the playoffs but Burrow was that good that he put them on his back and pushed for the SB. Even in the video it showed that the times Pickett had absolute clean pockets, he sometimes never went for the deep shot and settled for a closer receiver. These are the things to keep in context despite Pickett being a rookie playing for a new offense with a wack ass play caller.
@@ThinkingFootball Yeah but you’re basing a lot of your thoughts and plays from his first few starts. How many first round qbs get thrown in during the season with no reps with the first team? He didn’t have time to gel with any of them and was learning and experiencing the college to nfl transition and handled very well. He didn’t crumble when it came to crunch time. What were your thoughts on TLaw or a Josh Allen who threw like 50% Completion his first two years? Or how about Lamar who couldn’t win early in his career with his arm rather had to use his legs. I bet you called all three of them franchise guys. So yeah, I’m not stressed because I have seen worse rookie qb play that turned out to be okay and Kenny has a better clutch factor than a lot of qbs in the league already. I’ll leave it at that
@@KeeblersKeys TLaw's first season despite being under horny dog Urban Meyer had some really good flashes. The kinda shit that makes you go 'this is elite stuff if it can be replicated often'. Not surprising that was the case when he was finally paired with a real professional like Doug Pederson calling plays. Then the Jags passing game overachieved using receivers like Christian Kirk, Marvin and Zay Jones along with pass catching HB Evan Engram. I've seen other analysts call the throw to Pickens in the Ravens game great ball placement.
Leave diontes drops alone 😂
The thing that became abundantly clear watching this video is how much of a mismatch Najee Harris is for this offense my god.
These are the things to keep in context despite Pickett being a rookie playing for a new offense with a wack ass play caller.
bullshit! his first interception wasn’t his fault, hit claypools hands and bounced out.
Pickett is Dookie
You’re gonna have reads when your line is trash. Especially as a rookie.
Bros talking about a rookie in his first ever starts and I’ve seen worse rookies. Relax lmfao
That's the point of this series - it's called Rookie Report
You don't understand there are levels to this and there is a difference where fans can put aside their bias and know when they have someone elite from the jump. Don't be like the Zach Wilson believers who have to be accused of not only eating crow but being on that dudes dick trying to defend his on field play. Then go off blaming a decent OC why he can't hit passes on time at the middle.
@@t4d0W 😂 sorry that I’ve seen the same amount of flashes from Kenny that I did Trevor. Come back to me half way through the season when the Steelers 7-1
This comment is fucking golden
Pickett can’t hold Jalen Hurts’ jockstrap.
His first NFL throw was a high ball to a 6'4 receivers who lost to a 5'9 safety. No, that wasn't horrendous by Pickett. That was faith by a QB in his tall receiver to make a play
Haha gonna enjoy my Ravens beating him twice this year, what a fraud 😂
Bengals fan. Pickett is just some guy imo. Tough to see the Steelers fall so far, hopefully they'll get their 9-8 at least
can't wait to see the bengals bungle against the chiefs for the next 8+ years!
Typical Ohio sports commenter. The Steelers "falling far" would be considered a successful season to the Bengals and Browns. Up until Joe B, you'd all consider 9-8 a good season, and Browns fans would be talking Super Bowl.
@@claytonkohut1195 Hey man, some team in the AFC North has to do it. Too bad it can't be the Steelers. Especially if they are fans of Canada's cute play calling. Zac Taylor has faults with his offense but cute play calling has not been one them for years.
Dude come on now you took a couple bad passes and made it like this was constantly happening you don’t even know when he was drafted you miss identify routes and call receivers TE lmao
@thinking football I am no longer watching your videos anymore and this is the first video I’ve ever clicked on. My reasoning for this is because I’m 15 seconds into your video and your facts are already wrong and I’m dissatisfied and disappointed
Steelers made fun of Baker for way too long… it’s the DAWGS time to sit back and enjoy y’all next years of mediocrity and false hopes 💀 🟠⚪️
