2007 ODYSSEY: Called the dealer $312.30 for labor (2.5 hours they say) + $91.96 for a faulty part. Total = $437 Bought the part at Advanced Auto, installed & test drove in 1.5 hours. Total $47. Great video. Thank you!

I got a 2011 odyssey. Is there something I’m missing getting the trim casing off the steering column. I can’t find any info on a 2011. I get it halfway but will not budge.
This was not for removing the ignition tumbler and replacing it? I need to replace the old tumbler with my new one that I had a locksmith match the keys to the old ones so I could get into the doors and start it with same keys. Had him program me 2 new ones also.

This job took me a good 2 hours on an 07. I’ve been working on cars for 50 years for some perspective. What I found was that the two outer screws holding the lower cover on, as well as the two screws holding the switch on, are JIS, not Phillips, and it helped to have both a #1 Phillips screwdriver and a 1/4” bit in #1 Phillips, both with the very tip ground off. That simulated a JIS driver closely enough. I also used a pair of right angle ratcheting bit holders, straight and angled, and those were very helpful. Overall it was kind of a PITA job. But great video!
Yeah there are a few tricks to get there and thank you for sharing yours, sometimes experience (50 years) helps you out to come out with extra ideas by using different tools to make the job easier 👍 have to help
Mine is a 2008. The game is to remove as much as possible of the covers to have enough space to remove the ignition switch. I didn't remove the whole cover, it was a bit of a mission and as in your case the lever was on the way.
Pro Tip: Turn the steering wheel upside down and pull out the bottom kick panel off a bit (don't need to take all the way off). This will allow you to remove the bottom steering column cover easier. Also, if you don't have a right angle screwdriver, you can use a philips bit and small vice grips.
I took everything apart. It wasn't a problem since i previously changed the ignition lock cylinder a year earlier. This time, when i disconnected everything for the ignition starter switch. I turned the key before i had the starter switch in and now i can't turn the key again. I might just the take lock cylinder off again and see whats up if i can't find an easy fix for it.
What issue were you having that made you change the ignition switch?....in my case it was making a buzzing noise (for about 2-3 seconds) while I was turning the key on.
@@TheMentalMKE oh ok, yeah try to remove and take it a look at the lock cylinder. For what I have read both are not related, therefore changing the ignition switch won't affect the ignition cylinder.
You have to pull the steering wheel column all the way up and out (towards you) and the same time the lever has to be loose (in the middle) so that you can move it up and out while you remove the lower piece because if you leave it on the lock position the piece would be lock as well. Watch out as well the lower housing comes out with a piece of metal that can hit the lever while it is being pull out. Try to use your knee to keep the steering wheel up and out and both hands to pull the trim down and out.

hey man i did what you did exactly in this video but now my key will not turn at all and i put the old ignition switch back in and still won’t turn and then accidentally locked the steering wheel. any tips on what i should do
You may want to pull the steering wheel while turning the key...it may help you to release the locking mechanism..turn hard left or right and try turning the key

The key won't go all the way in on my wife's Honda Odyssey.. and it won't turn over. I feel like I can replace this myself but I've heard you may have to have the dealership problem the key? Is this tru? I don't have a scanner or anything to program it myself
If ur key is not going completely in, most likely the issue is with the key cylinder. It may have something stuck inside (maybe dirt, or maybe fuzz from inside the pocket or something). Replacing the ignition switch won't fixed that. And yes if you replace the key cylinder you might need to get the new key reprogrammed with a locksmith or dealer.
@@jazwraps7178 it's been an absolute nightmare and I'm still without my van. Bought and returned 4 parts, from the $30 ebay part to the $230 O'riely part. It's called the ignition switch lock cylinder. We accidentally sent back the immobilizer with the part so now I have a used one with that part on it. Going to install it soon.
If you have the spare key a locksmith can make a replacement key. The ignition switch is basically an electronic element of the ignition system. If the key is stuck or hard to remove or turn the issue is most likely the lock cylinder (with a good working key). My best advice is to call a locksmith and have them take a look at it.

My van died while driving. After checking the alternator, battery and fuel pump everything seems good. I'm guessing it's an ignition switch issue, I have an 07 odyssey. I hear it's a common problem. What do you think? It turns over but never starts.

You cut out steps in the video, if you are going to do a how to video it should show the whole process, we couldn't get the bottom part off and you cut that part in the video it would have been helpful to see that even if it took you as long as it took us to get it out.
Appreciate the feedback, sometimes holding the camera and the angle is hard to get everything on the shoot, while at the same time hold the screwdriver and removing the part. Will keep that in mind for future videos.

Check for any extra bolt/screw. Or any clip holding the casing. Should be about the same idea as Gen. 3.

If the key is getting stuck, your issue is most likely with the ignition cylinder, not the ignition switch.

How did you get the lower housing off? The steering wheel height lever is in the way. The video cuts off there.

uable to remove lower shroud to access ignition switch. our is a 2006 model. the lever is in the way.
Try to remove as much of the lower trim. To have enough space to pull the switch out. I couldn't remove the whole trim as well.

Weird, the cylinder mechanism could be your issue in that case.
You may want to pull the steering wheel while turning the key...it may help you to release the locking mechanism..turn hard left or right and try turning the key

So I was able to take the wafer out I put it back together and now it won’t start

I broke my tilt lever trying to tske out bottom piece 😮 im calling the locksmith he can deal with it. These oddesseys suck
Sorry to hear that. The lower trim is a nightmare to fully remove. I left it there hanging instead, just enough space to remove the ignition switch.
