It's so fascinating to know that this is an established idea! I'm a 22 year old with only a high school diploma and recently I've been expressing this idea as "externalizing my brain." I think that my ADHD related memory issues and a personal history of being gaslighted have really made me a bit or a memory/information hoarder and I'm so happy to learn that there are ways of getting organized at the level of abstraction my mind works at. Thank you for this approachable video, I'm really glad I watched it 😊
"More is not better and what we have needs to be valued". Indeed! Love your channel. It's what lies inside of our consciousness that is of value (though we may belittle it esp in comparison to the world outside), and the more we polish and endorse it, the more we grow in our essence. After viewing this, I note how we are all connected one way or another. How amazing that philosophers and great writers from antiquity to modern age have shared what they've shared, not knowing that the age of the Internet was ahead of them so that we today get to benefit from their deep musings crystalised hundreds of years ago! They had to catch the insights and record it despite having no assurances of what's to come...
Wonderful! This really motivates me. I only studied computer science and math at the bachelor's level and have started working as a software engineer. But it has never excited me as much the idea of working on novel problems academia provides. I also just think the brain, the nature of intelligence, and it's connections to modern AI are a really fascinating mystery. I hope to really pursue this path and this helps a ton.
I feel that the most valuable part here, is the realisation and awareness that most of the information is already available to you in your second brain. I have spent so much valuable time starting anew instead of interacting with the material I have already gathered.
I found that I've been passively doing this already in the form of journaling, making notes, etc., but bringing a deliberate intention into this through C.O.D.E. is something I'm keen on trying now. Great video!
Hi Charlotte! Thank you for all your wonderful content - your many tips, work advice and simply being an amazing human being! I would really love to see your screen whilst you are working on a paper. Seeing your screen for a prolonged period of time (recording or maybe streaming) whilst you are working would help to understand how you navigate all these apps.
Hi, a fellow neuroscience phd student here in the US! I'm a first year so having a more experienced phd student in the field has been great to listen/interact with! I am using an ipad to read papers in the hope of reducing paper waste -- what apps do you use to annotate research papers and gather those notes into your second brain?
Mostly Goodnotes, Zotero, Instaper and Notion. I'm not completely satisfied with the integration of all of these apps, but it works quite alright. Hope you enjoy your phD! 🧠
Hey, I am a high school graduate and wanted to work on independent research project in computational neuroscience. I would be really helpful some of you guide me in that.
A nice summary of Tiago's method. I noticed you had Douglas Hoffstader's book, Godel, Escher, Bach in the video. I am reading a more recent book by Hoffstader called I Am a Strange Loop. It's a bit more accessible to me than GEB. Wondering if you've read it and what you might think about it. Thank you.
Seems i have been doing this for years. But to me ideas are easy. I had to stop reading science papers because ideas piled on. With no way to make them real it hardly matters how many or how good the ideas are. I guess that's why co.pter science has been more expressive for me. Things can be created. Physical artifacts and processes take spacetime and money that not everyone has. Its to bad societies were not more focused on innovation vs entertainment or ... well let's say other pursuits
Yes, I really like what you say and even though societies are indeed leaning more towards entertainment, I think we can build our lives to lean more towards innovation and creativity 🧠
Hii, I just want to ask, can someone make a career shift into computational neuroscience, or enroll in a phd program at an older age (mid thirties) or would it be so difficult/impossible?

“Painting and magic seem to be similar.” 😊 Awesome.

Thank you for this video!
Thank you for this, and thank you for your notion video. I hope I can like a video more than one!
Beautiful and comprehensive video😊. Also loved all of the Studio Ghibli scenes!

loved this video, Charlotte! from a fellow BASB'er

I'll check it out!
I like this lady, she is cool😁👍
Would like to ask if you could showcase a sample/simple project related to neuroscience?
Charlette, I would like to see UA-cam Short vids from you, thannks
These are so damn interesting...

Do you also do this for fiction books you are reading?
Obsidian is a great app for that.
I was wondering why no one has not mentioned obsidian yet. It's totally a game changer
Where are you from? What languages do you speak and why ?

Second brain using KISS method
Like 200!! :D
