Obviously Jack has been more successful with movies and everything but Kyle Gass deserves just as much of the recognition. Both are insanely talented. Jack is also really humble and a true good friend for not making Kyle feel like less. True good friends and partners in music.
Totally. Kyle makes Tenacious D work just as much as Jack does. He's the straight man. The one who calmly looks on with bemusement when Jack starts playacting on stage. That's a big part of the comedy. I seem to remember Jack telling a story about the early days of the band where Kage really did quit the band for a short time and Jack tried doing some sort of musical comedy thing with Andy Dick and it was a disaster.
@@brianm2881 Playing the straight man is one of the hardest parts to play. Your job is to keep the energy from going off the wall and keep a straight face without getting caught up in the energy. And Jack Blacks energy is off the wall. My hats off to Kyle.
Have you heard the story of Hollywood Jack and the Rage Kage?
There’s a video of Jack Black meeting a young fan who has some physical ailment that has him in a wheelchair (looked like palsy or something) and Jack sings with him and gets so emotional you can see him start to tear up. He really is a kind soul, which is rare to find in Hollywood.

Jack Black is my favorite singer and person. I started learning this song back in March because it's my favorite love song. In April my dog/best friend died way before her time, just after her sixth birthday. I've been listening to it and playing it frequently since then. Then suddenly Tenacious D plays it. It makes my cry every time and I'm not a crier.

love they did this. I had this on an old bootleg before the first album was released. some show from Oregon. The D also did the fat Albert theme and Spiderman on that boot.

I saw these guys open for jimmy eat World and Weezer in 2000.They blew me away and warped my mind in the most delicious direction. After seeing tenacious D at wings stadium in Kalamazoo my life was forever changed. I didn’t need to stay for jimmy or rivers act but I couldn’t drive so I had to wait for my ride back. Long live the KINGS

@@hutchm8914 Some of these musical comedians just don't translate well to more "serious" music as talented as they are; probably wouldn't have been as good. Tim Minchin is a great example - one of the best musical comedians but he's done some non-comedy stuff and it's mediocre compared to the comedy

I saw the D live once. They were promoting Rise of the Phoenix and it was one of the best live shows I’ve ever seen. It was like 28 bucks to get in. JB and KG are legends.
saw them on the same tour back when the album was released. played the best of both the albums , was a dream come true. was like 15 feet from them both haha

I normally hate covers of Beatles songs because they usually seem pretentious. Just my opinion, disagree if you want. But this is great! I feel like it gets back to the 4 lads from Liverpool having a laugh and bangin out a tune sort of vibe! And of course its the almighty Tenacious D!!!
There’s definitely nothing pretentious about Tenacious D. Well, some of the lyrics but that’s the whole joke. There’s no real pretense.

Instant Classic - can jam to this all day long ! They made it their own but didn't destroy it which is tough to do even with Beatle music.
Gutted that they didn't include Carry That Weight in the medley but it is still a legendary medley by The D nonetheless.

Saw them in Glasgow years ago. One of the best gigs I've been to. they were great.
I've come to realise that, in terms of harmonies, JB is essentially Serj Tankian and KG is Daron Malakian from SOAD
