I’m a Newcastle fan and never liked Leeds, I knew Leeds were one of the best teams when I was growing up but didn’t want them to win. The European cup final was different and felt cheated just as much as the Leeds fans . I was 10 when the match was played and still remember the game.
The referee retired after this game. Obviously he had a Golden handshake from Bayern Munich. Bribing refs in Europe was rife then . Especially with German and Italian clubs.

Leeds won that fair and square, should have a star designed into their crest regardless. Beckenbauer was like the flu around this time, he also hurled abuse at Jack Taylor in the 1974 WC final when he awarded the 1st minute penalty. The whole thing stunk.
Just a word of thanks for these incredible uploads. Love the way you incorporated the fashion & music of the times along with the key footage. Really brilliant stuff. I'm not a Leeds fan - and I apologise for taking as long as I did to realise it was Don Revie co-commentating - but am enjoying watching these 'wilderness years' clips as a football fan. Beckenbauer played Jack Taylor in the 74 World Cup final as well. Said 'You're an Englishman' to him after he gave the penalty to Holland in the first minute, ie 'you're bound to side with them aren't you, but you've got a sense of fair play too'. Needless to say, a little later he gave W. Germany a soft penalty for their equaliser. But then, what player isn't in the ref's ear? What's so odd about this is that the ref gives a goal and then rules it out after a player has a whinge. Never seen that before. The 'blocked by UEFA' thing just makes it smell even worse. They probably pleaded 'copyright', but the fact that the other footage seems to be OK suggests otherwise. No wonder I can't find the game anywhere on UA-cam. On another score, I didn't know till recently that Armfield sent on Revie's team because it was 'their last chance', leaving out Duncan McKenzie, and let Revie lead out the team. Is that actually true or McKenzie's sour grapes? Pretty astonishing if it is true.

I am no Leeds fan anything but ... yet that European Cup final was rigged. I have never been so disappointed by a result and I wanted Leeds to lose at first. When Clarke was pulled down I thought it was a genuine mistake and just laughed it off. But as the game went on and as Leeds began to get more and more on top it became clearer that something was not quite right. The Lorimer 'goal' that never was convinced me that this was a conspiracy. The referee was on his way back to the halfway line and I have never before or since seen a referee change his mind apart from the introduction of VAR. There should have been a full investigation into this and the match replayed. Ironically this happened to Leeds in the European Cup in 1992 against another German team when they played an ineligible player. Maybe Leeds would not have won the replayed match who knows but the way that game was refereed was a scandal.
Blocked bye uefa my ass I've seen that footage loads of times, they should of had a penalty for sure and Lorimer's goal should have stood but that don't mean it would of been it
UA-cam has video recognition algorithms that UEFA buy into (as do the EFL and Premier League). When the first version of the film was uploaded, it was soon removed by UA-cam since the Leeds goal pictures flagged that it was UEFA copyright footage. I appealed the decision but lost. I subsequently re-edited the footage to obscure the goal so that the film would be allowed.
