This totally works for me! Not going to say 100% guaranteed but for the cost it's worth a try. I'm on day three of soap on a rope and my trees have yet to be molested by those hooved miscreants(aka 🦌)! Plus this is saving me hundreds of dollars in fencing. Thanks for passing this tip along with your video!
At my last house I had couple acres and about 50 fruit and nut trees. I used to get 3 ft tall chicken wire, cut the width to form a piece 2x the diameter of the trunk and just hang it with string from low branches. Never had deer damage to any tree protected with that.
Ok, my friend. Seems like great advice and I really appreciate your tip about drilling a hole through the entire bar. Giving it a try today! Congratulations, here is your "Helpful Video of the Month" trophy!🏆
I've always thought soap kills plant roots if it gets in the soil. Did your trees stay healthy? I would like to use your tip but I might try to put some kind of a container below the soap.
I've heard that soap is beneficial because it keeps the soil loose and aids water penetration. Like anything else, though, too much of a good thing should be avoided.
Mama Nature grows that food for the deer and other animals many see as food, cause the 2 legged Dada thinks he is greater than the 4 legged Doe who bleeds to give life. Not your world dude . THIS IS MAMA NATURE!

Happy to help Kyle 👍

That's a good idea. Appreciate the insight
Sounds like a lot of work compared to just hanging some soap, no? 🤷🏼♂️
@@LarrySmithOutdoors any particular soap that you recommend?
@@shittylib749 true, but really a lot of work? No and I do it once
What kind of soap did you use? Irish Spring? So the soap does not bother the flowers/plants/grass beneath the tree they are hanging from??
Really what do u mean by stinky soap soap smells good or people wouldn't buy WHAT kind of soap were u useing??
Super cute little skunk!!! Thanks for the great tip. I'm going out today to save my trees which have been nibbled on by the deer!!
Have fun! Protect those trees!! 😁😁
Thank you! I'm going to use curling ribbon to hang with some slack as the blowing colored shiny ribbons should deter birds as well! What do ya think?
I think it's a good idea
I love your tips but I love Little Stinker even more, who has a Skunk as a pet? He or She is adorable.
*what kinda soap brand is this?*
Will this stop deer from sharping their antlers on the tree?
@J.P.M. 52 after I hung the soap I never had another problem.

You bet!
I was told it had to be Irish Spring. Did the soap you use have a similar smell?
8 foot fence works!🤠
I used Irish spring soap to stop deer eating hostas, worked great.
Happy to hear!
Oh my goodness I need to give this a try! Thanks for sharing! And awesome cute skunk! Glad UA-cam recommended this video!
Hope you enjoyed!
Thanks Larry! Getting ready to plant 36 apple trees next week. I’m going to try this! Thanks again.
Good luck!
How did you make out?
How did it work
Does the kind of soap matter?
Irish spring seems to have much value for pest s if all kinds
If it’s just the smell, maybe something else could be used? I have tiny peach trees from seeds. They can’t support the weight of soap.
Hmm not sure. Will have to look into it and get back to ya
Dryer Sheets.
Coyote pee?
If the trees are really small, wonder if you can just hang the soap along side it from a stick the same height or something….

That's what I was wondering. I'm thinking it shouldn't "wash" too much off during a rain.
I used soap by my hostas, didn’t damage them, kept deer away.
I would like to know what happens to the soil when the soap accumulates?
I've heard that soap is beneficial because it keeps the soil loose and aids water penetration. Like anything else, though, too much of a good thing should be avoided.
Wondering what kind of soap might work best. ALSO for those who try this, how about coming back here and letting us know how this worked for you.
Irish spring kept deer off my hostas.
Soooooo.
Hosta La Vista... Deer?
@@caburtnett1980 Hosta la Vista, Bambi!
Excellent info and cute little skunk!!!
We try our best to help & thanks! we gotta bring back lil stinker
1:14 - I didn't even notice he had a rabbit on his back until he mentioned it!
Edit: I meant badger.
haha! it's a skunk
love your little stinker!
isn't he just the best?
LSO new Mascot. LIL STINKER. HAHAHA LOVE IT
Would love to see the story of Little Stinker! :)
Head to our video where I find the skunk!
Didn't work for me. Deer actually crushed the soap in a couple of area rubbing against the aspen trees. Will do fencing.
Just found my new cherry trees growth gone this morning 😱😭 so going to try this
Best of luck
@@LarrySmithOutdoors thanks. So far so good. I got charcoal Irish spring instead of original since it smells stroonger
Nothing like tasting an Irish Spring cherry…..its sweet and cleans your mouth at the same time….
Ahhh the smell of it... Irish Spring.
😂😂😂😂
Heck with the trees. I want a skunk.
hahah!!
I've tried this and it didn't work!
give phil his kitten back
😂😂😂😂
You should call little stinker clickbait
Uh, Larr, you have a skunk on your shoulder...
He's my buddy
I'd be scared to have my skunk on my shoulder like that. They are pretty clumsy and would definitely get hurt if he fell.
You have a skunk as well??!
@@LarrySmithOutdoors I used to a long time ago. He was much fatter than yours though. :)
All these people with unprotected fruit trees, I don't get it.
gotta protect the trees!!
Should bring little stinker to dowco
You're not kin to Ronnie Smith are you from Ronnie Smith outdoor adventures?
Course you don't sound like you're from Alabama LOL which he is.

When you have a deer problem, they seem to only go for the trees you grow, and not from mama nature.
