Wow, being a builder, i didnt come to this channel for carpentry tips but i absolutely love this channel and how you do things but also do them properly. Im glad you haven't wasted your GREAT talent! Great channel, now my favourite! Cheers, Darren
i really like how the burned pine followed by stain turned out. I see a lot of people burn pine and then clear coat it and I've never really cared for the look the stain makes all the difference. Also love the way you used the textured plastic for the yellow. Great work
Great sign - pro LED strip trick - wire BOTH ends of the strip to the power supply. Stops brightness dropping on long runs, reduces the chances of failure when a connector fails (solder the strips, don't use those plastic joiners!) and lowers the current on the traces.
I absolutely love your sign builds! You have some genuine talent sir! I saw your Instagram post about the ijessup thigh clamp and couldn't tell from the photo what it was. I thought, "well there's a tool I've never heard of!" I now realize that I've been using that tool for a long time! Thanks for sharing this video, really great work!
Always entertaining! I love seeing other people make the same stupid mistake I do. Nailing trim to the table, cutting the stencil backwards... If there's a stupid mistake to be made, I've made it!
A simple project, with great results. I dig it. Also, I like the burn/stain thing. I'm going to have to experiment with that one... As soon as I find the time to clean my garage, assemble a shop, and then utilize the shop...
I’m in Dallas as well. Just spent the last two days trying to get a hummingbird out of my shop! Quite the coincidence! I too have birds that often find their way in, but never a hummingbird. 14’ foot doors and still couldn’t find its way out. In a similar line of work, really enjoy the channel!
Great sign and the video to go with it! I also have a video from a while ago I haven't edited yet and I'm looking forward to seeing how the heck I made that project!
Birds follow a very simple rule for escaping confined spaces, always go up. It works every time no matter what forest you're in and it served them very well for 60 million years... and then people came along.
It would be lovely to think that 'strawberry tint' smelled of strawberries [doubt it though]. FANTASTIC sign. Your approach to moulding was inspirational, the distressing/staining was phenomenal and the overall effect reminds me of a sign as it might appear in an illustrated novel/comic. Brilliant!
When you showed the Sunflower colored tint, I automatically got Post Malones Sunflower song in my head. Then thought "hang on we are back in time here, that song probably hasn't been written" :) Love your work Wesley
You know why the bird was humming...... Cause he didn't know the words. !! Ever have any trouble with the LED's when after being on for a long time they get warm and the sticky pulls lose, then the strip sags or falls off ? I had to start using either contact Cement or 3m 77 spray. Under cabinet lighting was the worst to fall off.
It looks like you gave yourself proper clearance at 0:09, but others should beware that if you cut close to the edge of a board that looks like this, you risk hitting the staple attached to the product tag.
Another great sign! What if you sanded the plexy with a really fine grit paper, applied the vinyl paint mask, brushed it with clear coat to seal the edges, then sprayed on the tinting? This should eliminate having to score the edges of the mask - a tedious pain - as well as preventing the paint from capillary-ing under the mask. The main thing is - would the mask adhere well enough to sanded plexi?
OMG I thought it was just me who did stupid things at times!! NOT ONLY gluing the board to the table BUT nailing it to it is so "classic me" it as if you have been watching me work in my shop and stole my trade secrets too!! I don't know how many Black And Decker Work Mate portable work benches I have cut into pieces either because I wasn't watching my saw depth or where the work bench was below what I was working on, but I am currently on my like twentieth portable work bench now or something like that!! LOL
I think I've watched the few seconds around 5:30 five times now...and laugh out loud EVERY TIME. nail, nail, nail, nail...wait for it...nailnailnailnailnailnail!! thanks for the morning chuckle
Good video! You could argue it is very self-explanatory but I prefer more narrated ones. Lengthwise 12 minutes are just fine, but the shots where you just see tools at work could be packed with a bit more information. This is not critique but only my humble opinion - others a welcome to chime in or disagree.
I appreciate your showing us how sign makers achieve their special effects. Are there any considerations to consider when painting acrylic to ensure that the plastic doesn't react adversely? I used to think that humming birds were adorable then I watched several of them at my father in law's house. They are absolute jerks to each other. I think I know where JK Rowling got the ideal of the Golden Snitch from.
@@WesleyTreat Thanks man, I do a fair amount of marine vinyl and use Oracal 651 and I love it! I'm gonna order the masking tonight. If you don't mind me asking, what cutter are you using? I've a little Cameo for about 4 years but I'm ready to upgrade to a 24"
@@ChristopherPowell7 If you order from Amazon, order from the seller Vinyl One. There are other sellers who ship it rolled up so tight, it ruins it. Here are a couple links. (Verify the seller under the Buy Now button.) 25 feet: amzn.to/2WzL657 50 feet: amzn.to/2YEqf2n There's info on my cutter in the video description. 👍
I use Oramask. It gets some bad reviews on Amazon, but that's because there's a particular vendor that ships it rolled up really tight, which ends up making it useless. I always make sure to order from the seller "Vinyl One."
Sign-maker, video content creator, and now hummingbird rescue? You're growing skill set is quite impressive.

You got me with the iJessup thigh clamp™

Great sign. I’m glad you pulled it out and edited it two years later.
That's gorgeous man. I love the way you think about design. Cheers!!
Yea! We are treated to a new video treat from Mr. Treat! Missed you Wesley.
The colours totally compliment each other.. Excellent job.
I always enjoy the retro designs of your projects as well as the technical processes. Hard to say which I like more, in fact.

Great project! Your retro stuff always feels really on point and period-correct. I'd be interested to hear your background/backstory sometime. Thanks!
Also I would love to see a shop tour from you!
Weasley always a treat watching your videos
That is one of the coolest use of LED lights I have seen yet a great project.

OH MY GOD! The grating sound of a tablesaw!!! (hoping you continue to edit in awesome sound effects in for the saw...)
Was waiting !And now a new project.,awesome !
You hadn't converted the saw to Jetsons' tech then?
I laughed so hard when I first heard it.
Outstanding job.
Nice sign! Thanks Wesley!

The design is frickin awesome. Great job
Ijessup knee clamp! Hahaha love it!
Awesome!! LOVE this project!!
That is beautiful work
A pleasure as always
You really, make some neat stuff! Listing the products used is much appreciated.
finally another video YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS !!!!!!!!!!!!!
Nice job. Does look vintage.
Wow looks amazing! And the bird was funny 😁
Wesley, really nice work!
Looks great! thanks for posting this!
New Vid! YES!
another fantastic job. Thanks.
How do you keep track of 2 year old clips? What kind of naming convention or folder structure do you use?
For project videos, I file them by year, then by project.
Great story telling. You're so good at lighting your videos. Awesome looking sign too. Cheers! : )
I love this.
How does his table saw make so perfect cuts without any burrs? I don’t get clean edges on mine
excellent video and a heartwarming ending. This has given me ideas for future projects. Thank you.
Let me guess. Humming Bird feeders?
As always great video.

Really looks the part. Unfortunately you were correct about the beard though!
wonderful!
Love this!
Nice work Wesley. Sharp detail and flawless finish. BTW, Diresta and TOT have shop cats...... just sayin'

If I sanded the acrylic, the clear parts wouldn't be clear and the black parts would've been foggy.
Burning really brings out the grain, nice.

How the heck did you find a full set of video files from 2 years ago - I can't find all of mine from two weeks ago!
Thank you. I needed a laugh today. With all the mistakes I've made over the years, I've never nailed a project to the workbench. (Yet) :)

I'm not alone with stuff up's........thank you
That's rad
Great video! What do you use to edit your videos?
Extreme talent and Premiere.
So you cut the stencil out, stick it to contact sheet, then stick that to your work piece, then peel off the contact, leaving the stencil behind?
Yep. The contact sheet is called transfer tape. 👍
@@WesleyTreat cheers!
My job here is to hit the like buttons.
Glad I could be of help,
cool build, entertaining mistakes and all
What is that plexi? Looks thick but a little smokey
Must be a trick of the lighting. It's just clear acrylic, probably 3/16" or 1/4".
you got the like for the Ijessup refrence
nice.
youtube algorithm: Here! Watch this!
Me: Okay.

Me: Wait, is this old?

...and now I need to find the hummingbird, "idiot face" video ...

I used to think that humming birds were adorable then I watched several of them at my father in law's house. They are absolute jerks to each other. I think I know where JK Rowling got the ideal of the Golden Snitch from.
I imagine paints with strong solvents in them would probably have a reaction, but I suppose it just comes down to testing them first.
And, yeah, hummingbirds can be jerks. There's usually one that hogs the feeder and runs the other ones off.
What paint masking do you use? Thanks!
Oracal Oramask. Thanks!

WAAAAAAOOOOOO............
Niiiice !
Ayyyyyyy.
Pweas post the video of you rescuing that humming birb on UA-cam 0w0
Finger in a splint finger not in a splint finger in a splint it’s like watching Homer Simpson
Poor stupid birdie.
Nice :) what material you use for masking? I use normal Oracal economy vinyl. Yours is cheaper?
I use Oramask. It gets some bad reviews on Amazon, but that's because there's a particular vendor that ships it rolled up really tight, which ends up making it useless. I always make sure to order from the seller "Vinyl One."
My wife thinks you're trying to get me to pay to see that bird die.
Tell Mrs. Griffin he survives to dumb another day.
"Look at that tiny idiot face!"
Put some wax paper down while glueing.
Wax paper doesn't deflect brad nails.
Your beard already looks like that.
Wham bam dibbly doo
Nice job. I've been there with hummingbirds as well - they can be pretty frustrating.
FIRST!!
Have you made yourself a sign that says "Did you reverse your artwork?". The sign should be backwards, naturally.
