- The receive signal is not getting all the way through the rx section. Plus a 45 mhz crystal is not working in that same area. Troubleshooting bad solder is next to impossible, so all 750 to 1000 solder joints were reflowed. .015 inch diameter solder made a big difference reducing the amount of solder bridges.
So did the RF board reflow fix the problem?
Some problems, but not all. Early versions of the TS-440 had bad solder. I just haven't had the energy to finish it up.
@@mikep95133, gotcha. I have an '87 vintage 440 mint condition, but it started intermittently having the dot problem. I cleaned out VCO-5 and retuned it... that reduced the occurrence of the dots on 24-29 MHz, but it looks like I still need to clean up the RF board to completely eliminate it. I have an on-air friend who is donating another with sensitivity issues.
@@orbitingeyes2540 VCO5 is 1/3 of the dot issue. I forgot the name of the other area with a similar goop problem. Sometimes the display itself has bad solder. It's in my videos somewhere.
VC05, VC01, Display pcb. Finally remembered all 3 sources of dots. Guess I needed a nap !!

Thanks, I'm building my courage but really need to build up my soldering specialty tools
