  • This is a follow up to the video I did on the 7.3L Diesel van's performance on the way down to Utah for the hightop install by Wasatch Overland. In this video I will cover some of your comments on the 7.3L Diesel Ford van and review how the van handled after the high top installation and what kind of MPG we got on the way back.

It makes me so happy seeing you two out and about together again. That high top mod is pretty cool. I'm glad it hasn't had any big adverse effects on mileage, handling, etc. I've really been considering getting a 4x4 suburban for light overlanding. a van conversion would be awesome, too but that's out of the budget for the short term. Maybe in another year or two after I pay off my daily driver and can free up those funds.

You're correct about pumping the gas in Oregon, but diesel is not illegal to pump your own fuel in Oregon. no matter what I am born in Oregon I live in Oregon. That is one great thing of having a diesel truck. Hi from Springfield Oregon.

In Oregon you can pump your own Diesel fuel. You do not have to wait for an attendant. It's only gas fuel that requires an attendant.

It seems a little odd to NOT be able to refuel your own car. I work at the local Costco Gas Station and believe me when I say, most people are clueless as to proper safety. Probably would be a much safer place if I dispensed all the fuel. Also with the unbelievable amount of fuel that is spilled on the ground due to incompetence.....

We always install egr probes at collector at end of manifold log. It’s a measurement of all the exhaust energy from all cylinders on that side.
K.C. Turbos makes an awesome retrofit kit for the sxe turbo. Which is way more efficient and will lower egts and get a boost in power.

In OrEgon, you CAN pump your own "gasoline" into a motorcycle or scooter (passed in 2002).
Also, as Brando Davis mentioned in his comment, you CAN pump your own diesel fuel. So, if you WANT to wait for someone else to pump it, go ahead. But you are NOT required to allow someone else to pump your diesel.
Fueling ("GAS") stations can be fined $500, per pumpage, if they allow someone to pump their own gasoline. THAT's why they get testy when people pump, or attempt to pump, their own gasoline.

I find that many attendants around Portland seem to place greater importance on the D-Bag in the G-Wagon than my service van that was there first. So my rule is if I wait longer than 3 minutes to get started with pumping or others who arrived after me get serviced first, I just start pumping gas myself. I get some weird looks from the staff, but no one seems to want confrontation.
Some attendants actually think that a business-vehicle driver pumping their own gas is allowed at gas stations open to the public. It's only at card-lock stations, but their ignorance is to my advantage. 😎
