Great recap, and some great pick-ups - esp. on the Marciano! The greatest boxer there's been... and never had to declare himself as such either! Sorry to hear about the less-than-desirable accommodation. If it was just me by myself, I'd do exactly the same as you though. As long as me and my items are secure, and the room is clean, then I'm not too bothered about the other creature comforts (providing there are no creatures in the room!). 😀 Enjoy the rest of your time at the National. 👍
I didn't hear any gunfire. If there's not random gunfire going off outside in the background, it's not that bad of a hotel room. No lights flickering. You actually have electricity. No drunk prostitutes trying to break in your door. Not a single siren. Spooky silent with the siren sound. That place is the Hilton compared to some places out there lol. Kidding. Looks like a good time there. I bet there are some deals out there on the last day. And Basketball Digest has some great reading.
@@joeschmoe2011 Right? I once booked a motel because it had a similar name to a hotel with high reviews. I got there and realized I pulled a "4 seasons landscaping". The difference being that what I booked was an actual place that allowed you to rent a room. Anyway, the room reeked of smoke and the toilet had poo smeared on the seat. There's no way anyone cleaned that room in a while. Anyway, there was very obviously a pimp hanging out in the parking lot. In the middle of the night, I heard arguing in the parking lot and gun fire. I called the police and went to sleep. I did not feel safe in that place.
Sorry about the hotel, but welcome to Ohio!! The IX center is kind if in the middle of nowhere. Used to build aircraft there. I'll be at the show Thursday!! Might see ya!!!
At one time a had a shopping bag 1/4 full of Topps basketball cards from Dr. J’s rookie year (yes I had that card a couple times over. To this day I do not know what happens to those cards. Love the Ted Williams cards also!!….and let’s not forget the great Rocky Marciano. They are still looking where he put his money!!
Love that Marciano, I’m sucker for the ‘51 Ringside set and you got the card from the set, fantastic looking card, congrats. Williams isn’t too shabby either!
You have a good eye for nice cards. My favorite of the bunch is Ted Williams. That's a beautiful and iconic card. I also didn't know that Chris Berman had his own football card. That was interesting to see. For your future videos from the National, I would love it if you took some video of Babe Ruth cards. 1933 Goudey. 1915 Sporting News. 1914 Baltimore News.
That Marciano is pretty cool. I've always had a fascination with early toops non baseball stuff. I've had the top ranked registry sets of 51 topps magic football & the 58 topps cfl sets, both of which I sold to the museum of sports history if you recall that story. The 1950 topps felt backs (foitball) is a cool set that I was into for a bit, but it was a bit pricey to complete so I just sold my partial back in the day to you guessed it the museum of sports history. 😂😂😂
I have a PSA 3 1910 Jack Johnson and his opponent Jim Jeffries PSA 5 if interested in vintage boxing cards and a laminated news paper clipping of there fight and also what adds to the nostalgia the 1910 baseball stats on the other side showing Ty Cobb and Nap Lajoie
Chris, please be very careful leaving your cards (or any valuables) behind in your hotel room, especially if it’s as shaky as you say it is. Thanks for the video & have a great time tomorrow at the UA-cam party.
The expo center in Chicago is horrific. The AC breaks every year, bad lighting, terrible food, old and dingy, too many separate rooms. I would be happy to never go back to Chicago even though the overall location is great.
The line to.drop off cards at PSA was exactly no line just e as liked up.and drop off 20 cards with no.issues and also noted there was lots of staff that helped out with any questions
Do you happen to know the booth number where you showed all of the 80's autograph cards (2:42-3:15)? Going to be there on Sat and that is a booth I don't want to miss, Thanks!!
Can you find DMR Virtual and film you asking him what happened to the ticket stub in the heritage auction from the record setting Jim Thome 13th walk off game he had listed with them and ask why he removed it from the auction?
In the background, you see the PSA both with the statement, "PSA 10'S outsell other Gem Mint cards 96% of the time". That's a problem. It should be equal across the board for the 4 established, good reputation graders.
@@JunkWaxHero I can't believe you responded. When I comment on videos, I typically get crickets. I also try to be respectful. That's probably why nobody ever responds. I'm not an anger monger. Anyway, grader bias is a cause I've taken up and can rant about for days. I'll keep to the bullet points. I would LOVE to hear your thoughts about it. First, I want to express that I understand THAT PSA sells for more. What I'm arguing is that it doesn't make sense. There's no tangible reason why PSA sells for more. The only reason it sells for more is because the hobby says it does. Unless the hobby changes that viewpoint, it'll never change. It's why I've taken up that cause. It's not good to have 1 grading company have so much power in the hobby. There is no (practical) reason why a PSA 10 commands more value than other reputable grading companies. Keep in mind, I said reputable. I get there are many grading companies out there, but only 4 (possibly 5) that have established themselves as reputable in the hobby. I've discovered 7 purposes to card grading that isn't about sale value. All 4 of the companies have attained that level of being reputable for doing the 7 things equally well. 1. Authentication 2. Encapsulation/Protection 3. Establish condition 4. Display/Aesthetics 5. Population Report 6. Duplication/Fraud Protection 7. Because you want to 4 companies, (PSA, SGC, CGC (formerly CSG), and BGS) have proven that they can do those 7 things equally well. So, it doesn't make any sense for collectors to think PSA is so much better. They only think that because that's what others told them. I've taken up treating all 4 of these grading companies as equals. There's a 5th that I think could get to that high reputation level if they establish themselves more and that's FCG (Forensic Card Grading). They're relatively new, but they're doing all the right things from what I've seen. I have no issues buying the FCG slab. I'll stop there, but there are a few more smaller things to say. The look of the slab, for instance. PSA slab design looks like it was made in MS Paint in Windows 98. Beckett's slabs look even worse. CGC has the best looking slabs followed closely by SGC. Not only are PSA slabs boring, but seeing someone with a collection of slabs that are all PSA, it bores me. A diverse slab connection looks better. Of course, this is all in the eye of the beholder, but I think most people agree. Anyway, I'm done. I'd love to hear your thoughts on it and would absolutely LOVE a discussion on it where I can also go further into it. I realize the irony in that statement since I wrote a wall of text. If you made it this far in reading it, bravo. I applaud you.
@@mhoke63 yeah it’s a good comment. I agree with some and disagree with some. There are some tangible reasons why PSA sells for more, and a big one is the set registry. It might make a good future video: why does PSA sell for more? Thanks for your thoughts

Thanks for sharing the insights and video from day 1. Nice pick ups. Enjoy the rest of the show. Take care.
Nice cards, I also would like a Dr. J RC. I look forward to your next video.
You had a great day Mike! Rocky Marciano, Dr. J, and Ted Williams. Sticking with big names that are slabbed is always a good strategy.
Agreed, thanks!

You should buy some tiffany baseball rookie PSA 9's. They are great value and lots of them can be 10's
I got Brett Saberhagen tiffany 9's, they are mint , bought them for $60 each including shipping
Just getting caught up now... no wonder you were all smiles at the UA-cam get together. Great stuff as always.😀
Back on the Holiday Road Living The Dream Baby ! Bad hotel room too bad so sad cause you’re living the dream Baby !!!!!!
Congrats on the Williams card.
That Teddy Ballgame, wow!! Nice pick up! 🤩

I'm just glad you saved the bulk of your budget for Day 2 when you're picking up gifts to bring back
My gift is that James will treat us to chipotle
Nice pickups, that Ted is one of my favorites.
Smart to save money on the hotel room and spend it on cards. You're probably not going to be in your room much anyway

Glad you made it safe to Clev. Did the hotel put you in a storage closet? Looking forward to more videos.

There are some social misfits in the hobby unfortunately.
