Thank you for demonstrating this! Just got a tooth pulled today and all my dentist said was “here is some gauze” & I was on my way home 😂 he didn’t tell me anything about not rinsing, not spitting, no straws etc
This dentist is funny, genuinely loves to share the right way to give advice and chuckles how silly it really is that patients really do need guidance. Don’t leave them hanging. 😄
Great I have been one who followed what I was told! Details are important! I thought I had dry socket, but it was irritation from the gauze. Where I kept putting gauze in thinking the gauze was to protect the hole from air and any particles. The gauze began to irritate my jaw and extraction site. Was told it's important to keep it in, but not told to stop after a certain time if no bleeding is observed! Great breakdown this should help many extraction patients!
Wow, what a difference this makes!!! I got mine pulled today and i received given instructions but they did not explain or show how to use the gauze, this saved me from potentially pulling out the clot and it feels alot more comfortable!!!! Thank you so much for this video ❣️
The fact that I have been bleeding all day. Operation was at 10am and found this at 2am😭😭😭. Thank you. I tried teabags, the cotton wool the dentist gave me and we to the pharmacy to buy gauze. I am even scared to sleep because of thinking I might be bleeding and might drown in my own blood. Your video saved me👏🏾👏🏾🙈
Thank you for this! I wasn't told anything after my Wisdom teeth appt. And have been bleeding for 8 hours. I've just been folding it and half & laying it flat.
Brother, I appreciate this so much! My doktor left me with a small piece of gauze in my mouth (which was very bad placed, on my other tooth and partly on the operated tooth) , and just said “bite a lil on it for an hour” and let me go. This while he extracted my 2 wisdom teeth on the left side + 1 upper tooth next to the wisdom teeth. Also he never said that I should drink in the first hours or spit out the blood. Because I wasn’t aware of how important it is to make the bleeding stop, I drinked water and I didn’t panicked for like 3-4 hours. Then I began to get huge blood (dark red/black) cloths which where abnormal, it was like there was huge pieces of meat in my mouth (very disgusting). When I called the hospital, she just told me to roll a gauze as if it’s a sigar and bite on it, but I put the gauze vertically (because the initial dokter placed it like that) and I used up 8-9 gauzes. No stopping bleeding and finally at 1 am in the night I found your video which explained perfectly how to put the gauze between your teeth and that it’s extremely important to keep high pressure on the wounds. After fighting against my sleep, biting down for 40 minutes, it FINALLY stopped bleeding and the gauze wasn’t as bloody and nasty as all the other gauzes. So thank you very much for your video, I was about to go to the hospital, but now I can finally rest and eat some. Bless you brother!
Thank you for this. I was bleeding lots near the stitches of my wisdom tooth on the 1st day. I was used up 8 gauzes, biting down and changing them every 30mins. I went back to the dentist same day as I was worried I was still bleeding 6 hours after extraction. they checked it and said it looks fine. They wasn’t concerned about the bleeding. After watching this video, I used a WET gauze- left it on for 30mins, it was still bleeding a little and I decided not to put anything on there- it did clot up on its own that night. I’m on the 2nd day, I can taste blood but no excessive bleeding.

Thank you for this video! While it sounds like this video was intended for dental professionals, it was extremely helpful to me! I’m an RN and I still felt clueless as to how to replace the gauze after all my 4 wisdom teeth were removed. Keep up the great work with these videos!
I always give my patients a handheld mirror when I put the gauze in so they can clearly see how I did it. This was such a big help. This same thing happened to me. However, just using common sense about this. Your basically just placing the gauze where the tooth came out and bite down gently. I made a thick square of gauze and fit perfect in the space. Stopped bleeding.
My dentist didn’t even tell me not to spit .... nothing . One piece of gauze and no extra. Have been bleeding for 6 hours now bad. Clot keeps sticking to the dry gauze. Thanks for the advice I will wet it now
Its been about 3 hours, and it's still bleeding. I am worried about how much *pressure* I should apply. Is there such thing as *too much pressure?* Should I put just enough pressure to the point that its near too much, but a little less than that? Or harder? Or softer perhaps? Thank you!
Make sure the gauze is directly over the site and bite firmly. Not so hard that your muscles get sore or fatigued, but you should feel the pressure on the extraction site. All the best!

Very informative. Dentist did not instruct me this way only printed out vague instructions. I got a bottom molar extracted today and may be experiencing minor PEB right now. Need to call in the morning.

I've been doing it wrong using a dry gauze for the last 6 hours. But now ill use a damp gauze. I hope I don't have a dry socket. Tips on preventing dry socket??
It’s tricky May. There are many factors involved. On your end of things I would say the most critical time period is the first day or two after surgery. Try to minimize how much you disturb the area to allow the clot to get established. If you rinse too much, eat hard crunchy food, poke at the site trying to clean out the hole, etc. you will increase your odds of dry socket. Smoking is another big thing to avoid. All the best!

@@EE-kt8sh I would guess there's a fairly even mix. The patients are out of it and forget things, and everybody is different. Dentists (and every other doctor) answer so many questions and try to make sure other things are said and it gets left out because they are human like everybody else :) My dental surgeon didn't say a word about this today. I could just look at the gauze and see that it was rolled, so I did the same thing. I was bleeding quite a bit for a few hours. I didn't know I should be pushing it all the way back where I had all four wisdom teeth pulled. I thought they were to absorb the blood and saliva in my mouth. Maybe it should be printed on the post-op reminders for the doctor and the takehome instructions for the patient, and then neither would forget. :)
Thank you for this Pal 👊 I'm abit on edge I need my wisdom out and broke my neck so making sure everything goes sort of smooth...Stuff like this really helps...
Should I stop after the bad bleeding is controlled even if there is more blood or minor bleeding around that stills red and not brown? And how should it look after all these? When am I good to drink, eat ot clean the dried blood from my teeth and mouth?
I was literally just thrown out of the dentist after my tooth extraction without any instructions on what to do afterwards or anything at all and ended up having two dry sockets, since the dentists there weren’t gonna be much help I wish I came across videos like these sooner…
I got my tooth pulled at 8am I just took my gauze out I’ve been applying pressure is it ok to stop using gauze now? I’m lost my dentist didn’t tell me anything

I just had an extraction on 18/4/24..my dentist told me about the gauze,so no issue there, and I did dip my gauze in a little salt water to keep it wet so that it didn't stick
Is it okay to sleep if your blood clot is dislodged? How do you know if it's dislodged? How do you know when you have a complete blood clot? I had my four wisdom teeth taken out today so it's difficult to see if I have them clots.
@@Jesuslovesme4 Bleeding normally slows to a trickle and sometimes the gauze will be tinged red in an area after a while of biting on it. It's generally best to bite on the gauze until the bleeding stops.
thankyou for this! mine was fine until i took some paracetamol and it started bleeding alot more and i wasnt sure if it was normal or not but ive put some new gauze in now and it seems better! starting to hurt alot now tho lol
This is helpful, thank you. I've never quite known how to use gauze. I'm having two back lower molars surgically extracted next week. If stitches are used, which I expect they will be, is there usually an exposed clot that needs to form and have gauze applied, or do surgical extractions and stitches prevent the need for an exposed clot?
You'll still generally have an exposed extraction site as it's difficult to close the gum completely in most areas of the mouth. It's also not necessary most times to close the tissue after an extraction as most sites will heal fine as an open wound. All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia Thank you. I had it done two weeks ago, it seems to be healing okay, but the stitches haven't dissolved yet. They look like blobby bits of white gum, is that normal?
@@syllabubble Yes they often collect debris and swell up as they dissolve. By this point you'd expect them to be dropping out very soon, but depends a bit on the type of suture used as to how long they'll hang around. If it's very irritating, the dentist could certainly remove it for you. All the best!
Hopefully mines in. Face is too swollen to see anything and both wisdom teeth were pulled on left side. Still taste blood so I think its still bleeding through. Can't feel a hole
My gauze has BECOME the blood clot so now I CANT TAKE IT OUT … I’m scared for one side of my mouth the gauze is clean and not bleeding on one side but the other is completely black congealed blood all around the gums and gauze I can’t take it out I’m afraid everything else will come with it …. I might need to go back to my surgeon to see what they think but it’s 20 mins away
I’m confused got my wisdom teeth out yesterday all 4, and 3 stopped bleeding except 1, lower right one. When I put pressure on it still bleeds a little but when I don’t put pressure it’s fine. Should I still bite on a gauze for it if the top one above it is fine I don’t want to irritate it
As long as the blood isn't actively flowing out, you're good. It is common to have some 'oozing' of blood from the socket following an extraction. If you aren't sure though, it doesn't hurt to contact your provider. All the best!
Thank you for posting it. I was given “some” instructions when I still under the effect of anaesthetic. I’ll let the OMS know on my return. Clueless people.
Just had two wisdom teeth removed and I've been spitting a mouth of blood out every twenty minutes for the past 5 hours. My dentist didn't even tell me I need to apply dressings. Thanks for your help
Don’t spit, rinse your mouth or use straw for the first 24hrs and one more thing if your still bleeding you need to use at least to pillows or just make sure ur head is elevated. let me know if you got questions

I wish you were my surgeon, mine damaged my nerves and sent me home with no aftercare instructions just a tiny thing of gauze and a syringe. The bottom half of my face is still completely numb and it’s been over 24 hrs
I’m not bleeding anymore but I feel like something is missing because of the extraction so I put in the gauze should I keep in the gauze even when not bleeding?
my dentist didnt tell me anything, nor my driver, am laying here changing out my gauzes, every other hr.. uhh thank you im biting down on a new one more🥴
Thx I was doing that first one I wasn’t sure to apply the gauze on the extraction exactly so it was still bleeding Now it’s fine after this the bleeding stopped
My dentist assistant told me what to do, dentist did not. They did not tell me to wet gauze . And every time I replaced gauze it was stuck to my extraction site with what I think was the liver clot or blood clot. As I look into the site with a camera and mirror it looks dark and deep (molars extracted) so now I’m afraid of a dry socket starting within the next 24 hours.
In my case I had all 4 of my wisdom teeth removed yesterday morning. I had 2, 2x2 on each side. Guess they didn’t have 4x4lol. when I started switching them out I was getting more gag reflexes and literally no room enough to be able to talk. Then I saw this today and was like… well no wonder because I’d rolled them up instead of folding, which I thought wouldn’t matter but it gave me more room in my mouth and much more comfortable lol
Thanks man got all 4 of my wisdoms out but one of them has been bleeding and clotting all over in my mouth for 6 hours. Im applying quite a bit more pressure now with new gauze. Im hoping it'll stop in 20 minutes. Thanks again.

@@EE-kt8sh yeah I think they don't remember
Once the bleeding stops, you can be done with the gauze. All the best!
Online Exodontia Thanks it’s been 2 weeks and it’s healing good I just got my lower left pulled this one was more difficult I had to get stitches Once again no instructions and I asked smh
God sent me here and I am so Greatful 🙏 thank You Doc!
Thank you kind gentlemen sir. Ive been laying in the bed like what am i doing wrong. The guaze is hurting, im still bleeding...then boom here you are ❤
These videos are more helpful then real dentist
For how much days do we keep putting guaza in our month im in my second day do i keep putting ganza
You made a vide just for that?
Thank you. Why it is jot advisable to use salt on forst day pls .
Not rinsing the mouth too aggressively initially with salt water is important so you do not dislodge the clot that needs to form. All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia thank you
Thank you for sharing.I,am getting the same molar extracted on each side.I,will keep this in mind..Thank you..
Thank you! I wasn’t told any of this
What if I have no gauze pad thingys?😅
You can use a tea bag or a cloth. Pressure is the main thing. All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia is tissue ok?
@@OnlineExodontia I've been using tissue and it's been ok so far
Once there’s no blood , I no longer need to use gauze ?
That's correct! All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia Thank you , what if there’s a little bit of blood ?
@@Jesuslovesme4 Bleeding normally slows to a trickle and sometimes the gauze will be tinged red in an area after a while of biting on it. It's generally best to bite on the gauze until the bleeding stops.
@@OnlineExodontia what if I can completely bite down because of my overbite
@@Jesuslovesme4 You would just use more gauze to ensure adequate pressure. All the best!
I bled for 7 hours my last wisdom teeth removal, it's already been 2 hours of bleeding. Hopefully this helps
How do you do it with braces
Same way, just it gets really tangled in the brackets so you need to be a bit careful placing and removing it. All the best!
thankyou for this! mine was fine until i took some paracetamol and it started bleeding alot more and i wasnt sure if it was normal or not but ive put some new gauze in now and it seems better! starting to hurt alot now tho lol
@@OnlineExodontia Thank you!
I fold mines long ways so it hit the extracted site
Thx most helpful. Especially wetting gauze
My dentist gave me an aftercare sheet while I broke down. So very confusing. I have been using my gauzes so wrong and it hasn’t been 24 hrs
If the tooth that is extracted is at the side of the gum where closing your Jaws wouldn't help, could you hold the gauze using your finger?
You bet Adam. Sustained pressure is the key to controlling most bleeding. All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia Thanks! Bleeding has stopped now after I done that
It hurts so much to put it over the extracted area
Should i sleep with the gauze in?
No don’t sleep with the gauze in. Make sure the bleeding is done, then remove it and go to sleep. All the best!
@4:25 That's what I was worried and wondering about thanks!
So when the bleeding stop you stop using gauze?
You bet! All the best!
@@OnlineExodontia appreciate the quick response was a little worried but I think I should be fine
Thank you for posting it. I was given “some” instructions when I still under the effect of anaesthetic. I’ll let the OMS know on my return. Clueless people.
I had a gut feeling I was doing it wrong. Thank you for the great tips!!
Thank you for this!
@@frizzy1819 thanks, I managed to get sorted out. I stemmed the bleeding
@@willcambridge8629 nice and you can use the mouthwash the 3rd or 4th day for now you can use salt and water!
From Philippines : Now is my 4th day after extraction, but suddenly it actually bleed starting 1 pm in the afternoon and until now.. I was actually worried since this is my day 4.. What should i do?? Thank you

Could you give me the same kind of video but for wisdom teeth gauze placement?
It's the same concept, just make sure the gauze is over the area where the wisdom teeth were located. All the best!
Thank you for sharing. Great advice.
my dentist just told me to fold it into a square then bite down i was doing it wrong i folded it into a square then laying it flat over it and biting down ughhhh
I wish you were my surgeon, mine damaged my nerves and sent me home with no aftercare instructions just a tiny thing of gauze and a syringe. The bottom half of my face is still completely numb and it’s been over 24 hrs
Sorry to hear this, but these things can happen. It's important to inform your provider to ensure they can oversee your recovery. All the best!
Can I take it out why I eat ?
Yes, do not eat with gauze in your mouth. All the best!
Just got all 3 teeth pulled I'm still kinda bleeding but I'm need to swollow my saliva is that ok?
Absolutely.
This was so helpful, thank you for sharing 👍🏽
I’m not bleeding anymore but I feel like something is missing because of the extraction so I put in the gauze should I keep in the gauze even when not bleeding?
No. Once the bleeding stops the gauze can be removed. All the best!
my dentist didnt tell me anything, nor my driver, am laying here changing out my gauzes, every other hr.. uhh thank you im biting down on a new one more🥴
Thx I was doing that first one I wasn’t sure to apply the gauze on the extraction exactly so it was still bleeding Now it’s fine after this the bleeding stopped
Ty
How’s your tooth and recovering going?
I haven't stopped bleeding. it's been like around 6 hours.
I had tried this but the gag reflex makes it harder
Thank you so much ! Top mauwler , and was told very little, God bless. Wish you were our hometown dentist. Penney C
my doctor told me nothing and gave me no gauze i was told i could leave after my tooth removal
That's too bad, hopefully this video helped you out. All the best!
The mouth generally heals very well which is a good thing, so stay positive! I wish you the best!
Did it stop? How are you feeling?
@@prettypoison5788 yep it ended up stopping but for the next few days my sockets were oozing. I got dry socket into two of my sockets and it was very sore. But now I’m just left with two very annoying deep holes in my mouth that are taking forever to close up.
@@livingoffnostalgia oh darlin’ I’m sorry. I hope they heal up soon! For me warm broth is helping with the pain a ton.
I wish I had a dentist like you 😂😂😭 cause why does teeth hurt as soon as dentists close
Hello I just got my back molar removed and like two hours ago, how long should I where guaze?
Bite on gauze until the bleeding stops. Once the bleeding stops, there is no need for gauze. All the best!
Thank you
