Having Moss pluck Olimar from the ground after he becomes a leafling would have been way cooler than him just getting spat out of the Onion. I feel like that would definitely lean more towards it being an alternate/parallel retelling of 1, but if space dogs were a thing.
I just think there are two simple timelines : The first one, 1>2>3 The alternate one 4>3 Pikmin 4 basically reenacts both Pikmin 1 and 2 so I think it's safe to say it replaces both of them in the alternate timeline
Branching timelines are fine. Even reimaginings that change some things but keep others the same are fine. What bothers me is that apparently _Hey! Pikmin_ takes place on a different planet? But still has Pikmin and appears to be a post-apocalyptic Earth just like the main Pikmin planet? Maybe an unseen interdimensional vortex could explain _that._ What Olimar thought was a separate planet in _Hey! Pikmin_ was an alternate universe/alternate timeline version of the Pikmin planet which he reached after unknowingly passing through a wormhole? (I've never actually played _Hey! Pikmin._ Maybe it's not true what I heard about it taking place on a different planet.)
Just to complicate more the timeline luoie was assumed because olimar was hired only because olimar didn't sow up to work for some days (because he was on pnf 404 ) and they meet for the first time in pikmin 2 so pikmin 4 can't be before pikmin 2 becaude they already know eatch other in pikmin 4
I forget if it's a reimagined thing or an alternate universe,but one thing didn't change from olimar,he still has bad luck like he does in every game,I don't mind the branching timelines though,they wanted to go this route so I'm fine with it,in one universe (our timeline) pikmin 1 happened,in a different timeline or alternate universe,olimar meeting the pikmin differently happened and that's fine,that's how alternate universes work,everything stays the same but a few things are different or happen differently
pikmin 4 has dialogue that supports AND directly contradicts existing information example: don bergman states there will be a food shortage, but pnf-404 is already named implying koppaites have already discovered it (going from the continuity of 3, anyway) example 2: planet is said to be undiscovered until now, bulbmin are mentioned by name (not seen even once in 4) just give up at this point

the first 3 games are connected and the 4th game has all of the elements from every other games but tells a brand new story. most elements are taken from 2(when i say most, its not that big, i only noticed boss fight songs and a few of the caves (obviously)) 3 has remade characters and its original story of food crisis and 1 is you know what is this series and hey pikmin is the spinoff so it has its own story bloom is a side game so ignore that

Or it could be that Pikmin 4 happens, but that Pikmin 1 is Olimar's dreaming whilst being a leafling, and that Pikmin 2 is either also part of that dream (connecting the dream of Louie bankrupting the company), or that after that whole ordeal Olimar decided to take a small break from work, went to another planet, found he had left a treasure in his ship, goes back to Hocotate and give that treasure to his son as a souvenir, only to then go back because the intro of Pikmin 2 happend, and the ship being like "woah a new type of pikmin you didn't log down" is because the ship is an ass. I think that the first idea, Pikmin 3 being the convergent of the different timelines is more likely. Olimar saying in 3 that this is the 3rd time he came to this planet isn't entirely wrong, since he technically did go back after oatchi got his leaf tail, making his crash landing the 1st and the return to help cure oatichi the 2nd. This could've just been easy, had it been explained as "although Olimar crashed many time on this planet, nearly dying each time, he still went back, as if something was calling him to it" and then have Olimar say "I can't believe I crashed again, luckily I got my radio that will be able to send out an S.O.S. signal. That would be the case if I had it, sadly just like my first time crashing on this planet, important parts of my ship have been blown off, hopefully the singal I've been tracking is my radio." or something like that.

1 thing you missed and that i think it destroys the entire video is that the cannon ending from pikmin 1 is the Good ending. (Olimar repairs the ship and goes to hocotate and starts pikmin 2) but. In pikmin 4 the rescue corps rescue olimar and louie, and bring them to hocotate. (Both of them, not like in 1 that only goes olimar) And doesn't make a lot of sense 4 being the first game because it would make the other 3 games not have a single thing in particular, making pikmin 4 another pikmin timeline.

The game actually says that the onions from 1 and 2 are different species than 3 and 4 which are also separate species
according to the website, the onions in each of the different games are different mutations of eachother, evolving to adapt to their own habitats
