In the good old days, all Celestron SCT models used two fork tines-single tine models didn't exist. Having said that, the Evolution Edge HD looks like a brilliant compromise between stability and weight. The CPC Deluxe Edge HD series is also a beauty. Only wish it had an 8-hour inbuilt rechargeable power source similar to the Evolution Thank you for the presentation :-)

I am still waiting but I understand why it is taking so long. I am excited to make the next step up to a very versatile scope. Its too hot here in the desert to enjoy using it anyway. Thank you and be safe.

I am confused since I was told the CPC mount cannot have a DSLR attached over 700gr since that will damage the motors... and in addition, time for exposure will be far too short for deep space with that CPC mount. Where is the truth? Thanks

Are you able to change from a AltAz mount to an EQ style mount on the CPC series?

I know that yours is an old comment, but I will respond anyway. Celestron offers an equatorial wedge for the CPC scopes: HD Pro Wedge, Celestron Item #: 93664. All of the bigger astronomy vendors offer it, as do Amazon, B&H, Adorama, etc. I have not bought this because I am mostly a visual astronomer and I don't need a polar aligned mount for that.
If you a scope on a German Equatorial Mount, you are better off buying just the optical tube (standard SCT or Edge HD modified SCT), rather than a fork-mounted CPC or CPC Edge HD, and putting it on the mount of your choice. Celestron offers several GEMs with the Nexstar software. I have the Advanced VX mount for the C5+ optical tube and I have friends with 8", 9.25", and 11" OTAs on different Celestron and non-Celestron GEMs.

On the cpc 11, to have 40x you should use a 70 mm eyepiece, that's impossible

Additionally, the standard CPC line uses ALUMINUM ring gears while the HD series uses BRASS.... It is a damn crime to have to spend the additional bucks in order to buy a PROPERLY DESIGNED/BUILT scope using more durable gears. AND, the HD series utilizes a regulated power/motor circuit that provides the extra-current increase in motor drive if/when the scope has an additional weight loading of cameras, etc.... It all comes down to CORPORATE GREED.................. PERIOD...........

No, it comes down to designing and building telescopes at various price points that the company thinks will sell based on their analysis of the market and that will make a profit. Companies exist to make a profit and it's right that they should make a profit. The alternative is to lose money and go out of business. If you don't like the design or price of an item, then don't buy it. If enough other people think the same way, the company will have to lower the price of that item and may even decide it isn't worth making. A good example of this is the original dual fork arm, tripod mounted, Celestron C5, which cost almost as much to make as the original C8, but could only be sold for a significantly lower price because of its relative capability compared to the C8. Celestron relaunched the C5 years later with a single fork arm and table-top mount and they were able to sell it at a profit at the right price point relative to the C8. The C5+ model was my first telescope (1999), it's a great scope for its size, and I still have it. I bought a standard CPC-800 in 2007, which is now my primary public star party scope. It's also a great scope and the price was very fair ($2k back then). Since I use it visually almost all of the time, and don't hang extra weight on it like astrophotography often requires, I don't care that the gears and electronics are not top-shelf. Finally, I bought a CPC-1100 Edge HD in 2017 and it's my primary dark sky observing scope. I was ready to pay $3800 for it (a very fair price in 2017), but only had to pay $3400 because Celestron launched a sale the day before I ordered it. This scope is awesome and has been worth every penny.
