This is like two daycare attendants dealing with a tantrum-thrower. Billy just keeps shouting Strawman and Projection, and even whining while he's given the chance to start over. And who the flim-flam in their right mental state thinks suffering makes people "strong"? Edgy edgeboy over here, apparently.
Notice how their arguments in favor of suffering never include THEIR suffering? And I seriously doubt if Mother Theresa, a big proponent of other people's suffering, ever missed a meal or slept on the sidewalk.
@@ThEjOkErIsWiLd00 Except according to the context of the argument, the metaphorical god could've made a universe wherein suffering isn't a requirement for growth. But I half-agree with your statement. It's true that pain, suffering and sacrifice aids in the growth of an individual, a group or the whole species, but the downsides of scars being left behind due to that suffering is greater than the benefits. That's why we have things like suicide, mental illnesses, and therapy for the suffering that individuals had to endure. Some didn't come out stronger, they came out broken down and in need of help.
@@ThEjOkErIsWiLd00 Some broad and undefined claims there man. Pain and suffering is pretty self explanatory but sacrifice? Do you mean of people's lives or their time? Entire cities have been built without pain, suffering and sacrificing lives and I would call that growth. Growth of a species. What does that even mean? There are many areas that are heavily overpopulated, is that growth?
@@ThEjOkErIsWiLd00 Many who are in a more privileged state, like Buddha was before he ever saw a sick person or a dead person, have great educational and health opportunities...no pain, suffering or sacrifice in the picture, and yet so much growth. In fact, buddha taught to distance yourself from pain and suffering (by avoiding attachment) in order to have more growth.
The two of you being calmly amused in the face of his spluttering rage is absolutely priceless. He owes you a callback to thank you for making him suffer -- by his own logic, that should have made him "stronger."
“If suffering creates strength, why is there suicide?” THANK YOU. I have depression as a result of “family dysfunction” and I have been suffering the consequences since. So for Billy to say “suffering makes you stronger” makes me pissed off. He has NO CLUE what people endure who actually suffer. And some people that survive the suffering are no stronger than before they suffered. But thank you Genevieve for what you said and pointing out the flaw.
As an abuse survivor I have to say that no, suffering does not make things strong. Suffering makes things injured. Being supported and loved makes things strong
While I largely agree with your point, it isn't perfectly true. Yes, when we're talking about strength of personality and mental health, love and support is what makes people strong, but that isn't how strength in an evolutionary sense is defined. Abuse flat out doesn't make anything stronger, but plenty of other seemingly bad things do. In terms of evolution, passing on your genes as many times as possible is all that constitutes "strength." A serial rapist in a society that doesn't allow abortion, is strong in the evolutionary sense, which is why it's a useless metric. I'm an asexual, not only am I never planning to have children, I don't even engage in the act that creates them, according to evolution I am not only weak, I'm a failure. I think that a metric in which rapists are strong and people who literally will never rape anyone are weak, isn't a metric Billy or anyone else should bother bringing up.
Billy's been calling into the show/shows for years and has never accomplished anything other than crying about how terrible everyone else's argument is, he's got to be a masochist if he's still enduring what he claims is such utter torture. Grow up Billy. You've acted like a petulant child every time you've called but this one was by far the worst
It’s sad how Billy uses his one phone call a week from prison only to be humiliated and embarrassed in front of a huge audience. With his hostile demeanor it’s amazing he hasn’t been silenced by a fellow rightwing inmate.

Former Mormon here. When I was serving a mission for my church, I had occasion to speak to someone about why God created man in a fallen state. He said that God created man to worship him and that by making us so that we would need to be saved by Jesus/himself, we would worship him harder. I told him that I don't want to worship a megalomaniac like that.
I recently said that Jesus gives conflicting messages. A christian responded what conflicting messages? I posted lines about turning the other cheek, give to the poor, take off your shirt, telling people not to throw stones at some lady and in some other lines, Jesus says to harm homosexuals, he talks about Lazarus and a nameless rich man that goes to hell and is being tortured, Jesus says he wants to crush people in a wine press and blood will flow all over the place and the part about witches. So, if those guys are your enemies, then why isn’t Jesus turning the other cheek? The christian kept asking what conflicting message. Finally, I said, don’t worry about it, don’t think about it, just keep worshipping. Their brains are gone, it is on permanent vacation. I have spoken to probably over 300 theists, mostly christian, so far. They are all the same. For a while, I was trying to learn about mormonism. Apparently, it is crashing pretty hard. Is that true? A bunch of former mormons were saying that 66% of their family have quit. The amount of scientific evidence against mormonism is enormous yet, there are 12 to 16 million mormons? Oh boy!
@@louistournas120 While parts of their brains may be off on vacation, I like giving them little reminders to come home; that worked for me. It really came down to finally recognizing that I was applying a different way of thinking to religious or "spiritual" things and that just doesn't make sense. And it is so funny about how conflicting the bible can be. A person can cobble together an argument to support tons of conflicting positions by only selecting the verses they want to and ignoring the others. It's always funny to hear a person try to explain why it's okay to ignore the verses that don't agree with them. I do think that there is certainly an acceleration of people leaving the Mormon church, in part due to accessibility of information that has been around for a while e.g. the "CES Letter" that has been around since 2013 is being discovered only now by a lot of people. As for the membership count? It's highly inflated and maliciously targeted. Targeted because the growth of the church is high outside of the U.S., especially in other countries where information access and education may not be as good. Inflated because it is only by members on record, not by active members. I've been out for just over two years and I'm still on the records. They make it hard to remove yourself and I haven't cared to because my wife is still in so they'll bother me anyway. A person could be 50 years old, have been baptized at 8 and never gone back since and you're still being counted toward their membership count.
@@jamespeterson7125 I think when it comes to religion, there is a conflict. Part of being human is wanting to survive. Leaving the religion often means that you are left without a god, without a heaven and you accept that you are just a biological machine that is one day going to break down. At the same time, people want to know the truth. They want to be sure that what they believe is true. For example, apologists. YEC apologists invest a lot of time claming that science backs up there claims, that there was a flood and on Ararat, Noah’s boat has been discovered by many teams, etc. Mormon apologists do the same. The claim that the book of Mormon is a special writing. That there is a match between Mayan civilization and the j people. A lot of christians have told me that they want to be saved, they don’t want to risk going to hell. Basically, they are using the Pascal’s wager. They have never heard of Pascal’s wager it is easily recognizable in the words they use. A couple of them told me that they don’t accept microevolution and don’t accept macroevolution. Most YEC seem to accept microevolution (small changes), that way, they can believe that there is a few hundred subspecies of beavers and that the Noah’s boat had 1 male and 1 female. Even if you tell them about the evidence, they are not willing to accept it since it means throwing away their religion and accepting that they are just biological machines. A small portion just seem to lack the skills. They are not good at logic, math. It doesn’t matter how you explain it, they will just not understand. Kent Hovind is that type. Flat earthers are that type. I started reading the CES letter but other things got in the way. That is an example of a guy who values the truth more than saving himself. I had heard from ex-mormons how hard it is to remove your name. There is an organization that helps with that. Apparently, the mormon priests bother the apostate a lot. Also, family members turn against you so a lot of them don’t tell their families that they are apostates. One lady said she had been an mormon apostate in her thirties. She didn’t tell her husband. I think the husband died at 80. She still didn’t tell her family until she was in her 9x. I read about Thomas Stuart Ferguson. How a Mormon lawyer transformed archaeology in Mexico-and ended up losing his faith It is true. Information can destroy a religion but I think it can never fully succeed bc there will always be people who are very emotional and a little less rational.
I've noticed this in theist and right wingers a lot. You give them space to speak and explain their views and all they do is bitch about being silenced. The only people silencing them is themselves because they know they don't have good reasons and are to embarrassed to admit it.
It's simply because they'd rather feel pampered and special than face the facts. Conservatives always believe in magic and some cosmic hierarchy, even when they don't believe in gods. Look at Joe Rogan - all you have to do is to say they're big and smart and they'll believe every bullshit you say.
Yeah, they really hate it when you poke holes in their arguements as they make them. "Wait a second, man, you didn't let me finish. When you hear the whole thing it makes sense." "Yes, but if the parts are flawed, the whole arguement falls flat." "Dude, you just don't understand what I'm saying." "No, I don't think you understand what you're saying."
I'm an Exchristain. Sunshine and lollipops is a pretty good creation. Suffering doesn't have to be apart of creation. You can learn all kinds of things without pain and suffering.

Without pain, suffering and sacrifice, there is no growth.
We would stagnate as a species if they didn't exist.

Jesus christ, I'm dyin over here watching this! 🤣 That dude was raging LOL! And you handled him brilliantly.
In terms of evolution, passing on your genes as many times as possible is all that constitutes "strength."
A serial rapist in a society that doesn't allow abortion, is strong in the evolutionary sense, which is why it's a useless metric.
I feel this
Billy's been calling into the show/shows for years and has never accomplished anything other than crying about how terrible everyone else's argument is, he's got to be a masochist if he's still enduring what he claims is such utter torture.
How a Mormon lawyer transformed archaeology in Mexico-and ended up losing his faith
It is true. Information can destroy a religion but I think it can never fully succeed bc there will always be people who are very emotional and a little less rational.
I love these ladies
I've noticed this in theist and right wingers a lot. You give them space to speak and explain their views and all they do is bitch about being silenced. The only people silencing them is themselves because they know they don't have good reasons and are to embarrassed to admit it.
It's simply because they'd rather feel pampered and special than face the facts. Conservatives always believe in magic and some cosmic hierarchy, even when they don't believe in gods. Look at Joe Rogan - all you have to do is to say they're big and smart and they'll believe every bullshit you say.
Reich wingers are the dumbest species to ever inhabit North America. Amoebas are more advanced than reich wing republicans.
Soo true, I've known a complete nutjob who could only say that "I don't speak up because what I say is 'controversial' because everyone else is sheep"

Yeah, they really hate it when you poke holes in their arguements as they make them.
