Thank you for defending Caitlin Clark. As an Iowa fan it’s laughable reading some of the comments. I saw one today said she’s “average” at basketball and plays for an “average” team. When I asked who they thought a good team was, no response. VTech was super good and gave it their all and Georgia is very impressive, especially with the half court shot😮. The 3s they kept sneaking in when I thought we could relax. Just an amazing game and Caitlin with her 44 points was outstanding even without her greatest shooting percentage.
The world is full of talking heads. Again, to say Clark is average is foolish. She didn't have the best day shooting in this game and still ended up with 44 points. Smart players take what the defense gives them, and Clark is a very smart player.
Both of these teams have a lot of potential. Iowa lost to NC State, UConn last November, so this loss isn't a big deal for VT. Georgia Amoore and Elisabeth Kitley are stars. Great fun to watch. Both teams will get better.
Kylie will shine , could certainly have an all big ten type year, Ofaulter will become dominant, Hanna is a star , Taylor is a star in the making , The other guards, Gabby , Kate, Molly give them a veteran, tenacious front court with depth, Addy and Sharon will shine , I think by game 5 we are going to see a powerhouse buzz saw of an offensive team ,
Kylie was expected to have a breakout game but then she got hurt. She's a good player. Iowa has a good bench which will make a difference later in the season
@@odeity7029 I'm not saying she can't but she's going to have someone have that Monica level offense later in the season I mean after their loss to Kansas State and the fact that they she was like wonder woman and still almost lost that game to the Hokies so I do believe she's gonna need consistent help 🤷🤷
I don't think anyone denies Clark is phenomenal. I think the difference in that game was the number of new players VT had vs an Iowa team with most of their team with experience. Of course both teams are just beginning their seasons and I expect they will both continue to improve. Which is kind of scary with as good as they both are now. Hopefully we see them play again in post season play.
I'm a huge fan of coach Bluder, but: I really don't get her decision to start Hannah at 5; after building her team toward a Sharon/Addy at 5, and Hannah at 4, then suddenly abandoning it for this game. Which meant starting the undersized Molly at the 3. She tried to say it was around putting a more athletic defender on Kitley. Made no sense to me; as you could continue with your starting lineup, but just play Hannah on Kitley on D. Anyway, it didn't work at all, and both Hannah and Molly were benched for fouls. I hope Bluder goes back to Hannah at 4, and Sharon/Addy platooning at five. But Bluder is an old coach, and can get pretty stubborn about her top 7-8 players, regardless of their performance or potential. Iowa is really deep at the 2/3 spots, but I'm not sure Bluder will give them a chance to contribute.
It actually did work as intended as Iowa jumped out to an early lead. They also wanted to fatigue the Va Tech players making them chase around our quicker lineup. This paid off late in the game with Amoore getting leg cramps and Iowa having fresher legs overall in the second half. Iowa’s fitness coach should get much more credit than she does. I think Iowa is the fittest team in the NCAA and this frequently helps them overcome teams with taller or “better” athletes in big games. It really is a secret weapon nobody talks about.
Also if you’ve watched interviews in the offseason many times Bluder has said there would be situations where they would employ small ball this year and the opening of this game was one of them.
I don't get myself why Coach Bluder plays Hanna at the 5. Hanna is one of your second or third best player on the team. Let Goodwin and O'Grady play the 5. I see maybe down the stretch in the fourth quarter playing at the five. I think you want to keep Hanna out of fowl trouble because she very productive on both sides of the court.
O'Grady did not play in this game at all, leaving it to Stuelke and Goodman. I see Iowa and VT, for that matter, improving team cohesion. Early season rustiness.
Mostly agree. Fuelerbqch shows signs of stepping up. But I don’t think they built the right team around her. No disrespect but the coach is a traditional team cohesion strategist. With KC you need to find the best mix so she can shoot her shots. As you say it is still early, so maybe this team will turn out to be a good mix.
I thought Kylie earned a starting role. No wasted steps, a longer stride on defense, quick off the ball, and from what I saw, one of the best shooting mechanics on the team.
VT Fans do not understand what a foul is. If the defensive player is moving and in the line of way, any smart offensive player would initiate contact. They have a right to their path to the basket. Clark is a smart player and certainly not overrated. It would be foolish to even suggest that.
I love how some fans say we understand but if it was Georgia was getting all the instead of Caitlin they would be upset I mean come on 17 free throws for one person in one game was completely and utterly ridiculous and I'm not picking sides as far teams but a blind man could see at times they wasn't even giving the Hokies a chance to guard her 🙄🙄

Certainly. People can be silly.

Good stuff!!
Sid and Kylie back at full strength is a blessing. Might be the best bench in the country.
There’s Caitlin Clark…..and there’s everyone else.
Will she get a ring this year you think?

I thought it was very strange O’Grady didn’t play at all! Wonder if she was under the weather or something?

The term "legal guarding position" is important.

if you know how to draw them the number really doesn't matter. I'm a Michigan person and I thought the refs favored VT by far. @@BrandonByrd-zn1jz
