    Yours is the best explanation of why these nuts get stuck.

    Thank you so much for this video. The exact same thing happened to my MT07 today. Chain was loose so I went to loosen the axle nut and instead it chewed through the other side keeping me from turning the nut. Had to drill the nut in two and a half places along with some mallet and chisel persuasion.

    Hey man thank you for this video, same problem. I thought I was going mad, crazy design from Yamaha...

    Sure it’s an old video now, but very helpful! Thank you. I ran into exactly the same issue yesterday 🤦🏻‍♂️ I have now ordered the, rather expensive; but necessary, Gilles tooling lock nut Along with the axle and cover. Now I must patiently wait 😏

    Thanks for sharing this. Got into the same issue. Going to Yamaha service soon so they can fix it. As you said rear axel nut is special and it locks itself

    You didn't "solved" the problem, you trashed it. And you bought a new one.
    It's amazing,
    im going to my garage right now, and ill try it immediately. Im so excited if it works for me too.:)
    Fingers crossed, guys! 🤞

    This was a timely video for me - Thank you!
    I have the same problem on my 2015 FZ-09 and just ordered all new parts (rear axle, washer, locking nut -- and new LighTech Chain Adjusters).
    I like your method - to drill the nut and break it off. I'm in the middle of drilling/grinding out the rear axle on the nut side because the rear axle on the opposite side got destroyed from all the spinning while I was trying to remove the nut. Thanks for posting this video. Do you have a website address for that new locking nut?

      Thank you very much, it's really a pain! I tried to find the link I used to get that nut but i guess it expired or something! however, I think you can start from here www.ebay.com/sch/sis.html?_itemId=152537573871&_nkw=GILLES+ACM+TITANIUM+SPINDLE+LOCK+NUT+RACE+YAMAHA+MT07+FZ07+MT+07+FZ+07+14+17&_trksid=p2047675.m4096.l9146 . just make sure that it suits your bike. Ride safe :)

    While doing chain maintenance I must've tightened too hard on my mt09 because I damaged the adjusting block on the other side. I've done chain maintenance a hundred times but now the rear axle nut won't loosen or tighten all the way either direction it only goes so far. Any ideas on what could be wrong? I really hope I won't need a new axle. I ordered a new adjusting block aka chain puller. I'm hoping the Yamaha dealer can make this a quick fix.

      Can't tighten or loosent the bolt! Well, unless the axle and/or bolt are rusty to the point of making the bolt get stuck. I can't think of another reason. I'm afraid that the threads on the bolt and axle are damaged and both need to be replaced. And even if you mange to loosen the bolt now, it will give you a hard time the next time you try to loosen it.
      Another thing I learned the hard way, is to always clean the threads on both the axle and bolt with a brush, on the axle before loosening the bolt, and on both beforing installing the bolt it again, this thing is always looking for a reason to get stuck, dirt is one of it's worst enemies.
      Good luck, and ride safe.

    But how did you remove it?

  • @gerrynightingale9045

    *Excellent!* ( *Yet I expected to see how-to actually remove the retaining-nut the way it's
    supposed to come off* )
    *Having been on an '08 Honda 'Metropolitan' for 8-years (rear) it's not inclined to 'back-off'
    at all*

    Did you use a regular socket for this Gilles titanium nut?

    • @magdfarid
      @magdfarid  6 років тому

      Yes, the same 27mm socket

    No need to destroy the Nut .
    Use a Dremel Tool and remove the lip retaining the lock washer .
    Then use safety wire to retain the Nut . Or drill for a cotter pin.

    Omg I just did this too. Can u please please help me pick what parts I need to replace it and how I take the axle nut off. Any links, please and thank you so much. I found the gilles axle nut from TST for $84, is that the only part I need? Don't I need the plate on the other side too? Please and thank You

    • @magdfarid
      @magdfarid  5 років тому

      I just used a drill to crack the old nut open, and I damaged the axle more by doing so, but it wasn't much of a problem as it was already damaged.
      You need only the new nut unless the caps and/or the axle are damaged too.
      I found all the parts on ebay, so they shouldn't be hard to find.
      Ride safe.

    Would you know what kind of nut it is , as in size , pitch of thread etc ?

    • @magdfarid
      @magdfarid  5 років тому +1

      The socket is 27mm, thread 18mm, pitch 1.50mm, outside diameter 31mm, and I think that height was 14mm
